Just discovered this and I'm very excited to give it a try. I'm just getting into warhammer and I decided on Space Wolves for my first army. Bought an airbrush for priming and basing and I'm excited to find a tutorial that utilizes it a bit more.
Highly impressive finished product. Probably one of the most realistic looking paint jobs I've ever seen. Love the ageing and rust look on the armour and shields.
Amazing work I don’t have a airbrush but just started collecting space wolves so definitely going to be giving this a go. Thank you for all the hard work you put in.
Nice video! Pretty clear explanations. I was wondering where you got the heads and shields from though. They look really good and are very space wolfy!
@FauxHammer if you make a small hole in the squeeze side and cover it with your finger when drawing paint in then release it when you want to fill your airbrush it works better I've found. doesn't work as well with non airbrush paints though.
I have a question that isn’t Space Wolves related directly, but definitely process related. I’m building a HH force that is 13th Company with an allied Detachment that is Raven Guard (but Native American themed). What colors would you recommend for priming, base, and layers to achieve a buckskin color for the armor?
Good work, thanks. I'm trying oil paint for the first time, should I let the paint dry between two layers of oil paint or can I go for the second layer immediately after the previous one is wiped off?
It depends. If you want it to mix and modulate, then let it stay wet. But if you want the colours directly seperate. Leave it Uk dry. But the spirits used to thin it can reactivate the dry paint fir days after the first paint
Hiya, It's a texture palette specifically created to test the brushes on before commiting paint to the model. www.fauxhammer.com/featured/fauxhammer-artis-opus-starter-set-announcement/ You can get them in a load of styles, this is our own branded range.
Thanks for this, really masterpiece in my world. Problem I had is: I might have watered it down not enough, but I can't wipe the first oil stage off that easily you Do it. Plus even so I varnished it, somehow the copper went off too when I worked with the sponge. So this first marine is ruined, what did I Do wrong? Is it really only it was too thick? I used it on the spacewolves terminators, maybe they are to edgy and detailed for this? Help appreciated to prevent further pain
@@FauxHammer Thx for your reply, Yes I used Abt. 502 shadow brown like you BUT as I said maybe I put it on too thick OR/AND the varnish didnt Do its Job. I just bought me some white spirit and try the next one, this time I will use q Tipps as well. I only left it on 10 minutes because I was afraid that I would Not get it off later. Maybe this has been the Problem as well. I' ll keep trying cause it looks so easy when you wipe it off. BTW again: great Video, awesome outcome and I subscribed right after watching it.
@@michaeltannebaum7673 if you are only just now buying spirits, what were you thinning with before? I'd recommend artist grade mineral spirit, it's been refined to remove impurities.and so stays thin. rather than clogging. Thanks so much for the Kudos.
Good question! absolutely nothing that I've noticed. this just saved me having to dilute each and every paint. Feel free to ilute normal citadel paints and you'll likely get the same result.
For ease of use, If you don't have a particular colour already, get the air version from Vallejo, Army Painter or AK interactive. Dropper bottles make it much easier, especially when it comes to paint dilution and thinning ratios.
@@stefan020290 depends what you wnat. as I said here, i chose the Citadel range for the Colour purists. but yeah, anything in a dropper bottle would be easier if it;s already an airbrush paint. many of those still need some thinning however.
Solid, my dude, there's definitely a lot of options with when/how much you combine between the airbrush + drybrush stage, weirdly I actually think there is room for: Airbrush base Stipple 'Dot' Airbrush highlights Drybrush edges Grime Something I'd like to test some time for sure, with a good airbrush it should be doable to dot.
Cheers B, It’s definitely possible, I’ve done it on a few models but I struggle with aim and paint consistency. The dot highlights look amazing but if they are off or over sprayed. It can ruin a model quick. Much More practise needed for me, but still probably wouldn’t add them on my vids as that’s more skill, and I want to stick to easy techniques for beginners.
Nice work! Oh, and "heads'up" on a video before it airs, is appreciated! ot: Did you change the refresh rate on the camera or the lights? Reason I'm asking is there are vertical lines noticeable on the lighter backgrounds that I've not seen before. :)
Thanks, appreciated. It’s my fault, I had the wrong bulbs in my lamps when I filmed this as I was using my multicolour bulbs for my 3D printer video. Didn’t notice the refresh issue on my tiny camera screen. Nothing I could do in post. I tried to hide it by bleaching a lot of the whites
@@MajinTT sure, after dropping hundreds on paints, models, and hobby tools to get started on my first army, whats another couple hundred? Seriously? Whats with these tutorials that are seemingly aimed at beginners using a tool that a beginner wouldn't have?
@@rolandnavarro5946 ok... So instead of getting angry, save your money for your next round of hobby purchases and get an airbrush set-up, or don't... It's just another tool and method of applying paint. The video also says that you DON'T have to use an airbrush and sure it gives a certain look, it can definitely be done via brush as well. Take a step back and realise that all the techniques shown here can be done in other ways, not every tutorial is going to be focused exactly on how you chose to begin painting. Heck I would say that the oil paints used for washes at the end aren't exactly a beginner technique but it is all good learning info for things you might want to explore later down the track.
I genuinely can't help it, it's automated - where did you see the link posted please? I'll look into that platform specifically and see if I can somehow prevent it. I've tested these vids with and without these premieres. and the vids without premieres do significantly worse. I'm still new to all this UA-cam stuff, please bare with me as I learn the platform, it's not tieing in to all the existing stuff I have set up as I expected it to. I really do appreciate your feedback, please let me know where you saw this announced. if it's external to UA-cam, i'll see what i can do.

Great video! You’ve got a new subscriber here :)
Might i ask where you’ve acquired those aweaome shields and axes ?

Really like this video, do you think its possible to paint like this with the cheaper airbrushes that are around the £100 mark like on amazon?
Yeah definitely, that’s what I started with, if you check my site I’ve even done a post about this type of brush being the best for beginners.
thats awesome, before I give it a go, how long did it take (roughly) Thanks :D
About 3 hours to do the squad, it’s easy when you cheat. The drying time took the longest

New to airbrushing. Do you have a rough ratio of how much thinner/water to the Fang to use?
i only put about 1-2 drops of thinner in the bottom of the paint cup and spray it at some paper on my desk to ensure it is coming out smooth.
