- Chipmunks are the smallest members of the squirrel family. There are approximately 25 living species and most of them are found in North America, though the Siberian chipmunk can be found throughout parts of Asia and Europe. Chipmunks are mostly ground dwelling animals and may dig underground burrows upwards of 30 feet (9.1m) in length in which they rest and store food. Chipmunks create food caches for colder months during which they hibernate. These store can be beneficial to the surrounding environment as the chipmunks may not eat all they stored and these stored seeds may germinate thus encouraging growth of the surrounding habitat.

I absolutely love them, and over the last couple of months have become quite close to 4 that live on the ranch I'm working on. They'll eat peanuts from our hands now and are just the best for relieving works stress. I throw seed and peanuts around 4x4's and some piles of wood, I just love watching them scurry all over them though out the day, and they recognize me now, they are so friggin cute.
They are no longer cute when chewing through electric wires. Just saying.
@heidimisfeldt5685 They are nothing but a daily clean up. Eating all my plant's digging up everything 😢
I have a chipmunk living in the backyard garden underground. He’s so cute and bounds around the bird bath.
That sounds so cute and fun to watch!
I love seeing Chipmunks, with their cute heads popping up to scope out the surroundings....lol
If I found a lost or injured Chipmunk that wanted to hang around, yep, I'd take him in to cherish...but also give him freedom to go back and forth.
I love chipmunks just as much as squirrels..look how amazing they are? They deserve love and respect just like we do..
Completely agreed! I wish I saw them more frequently!
@@AnimalFactFiles i feed the squirrels i have everyday and it makes my day..they are so remarkable and smart..ty
I love Chipmunk!
Us, too!
I love watching chipmunks play in my yard!
Aww that sounds so lovely!
I love them. It's the squirrels who eat everything in sight. I k place nuts in the bolt holes for the chipmunks, along with meal worms.
During the winter, chipmunks will not be asleep for the entire season as most other hibernators do. They will typically retreat back to their burrows. Occasionally, they wake up to bring their body temperature back to normal.
When they are on these awake breaks, the chipmunks will feed on the food stored over time to build up their fat reserves. This is very important for the cold season aa it allows them to stay protected from the cold. Every few days, the chipmunk wakes up for temperature adjustment, has a few more nuts, and quietly goes back to sleep for some more days.
I love them I feed all kinds of little wild animals
I think they are precious! I'm taking care of one in my yard & she knows her name....♥️💕
What's her name?
Same here. Two chipmunks come every morning to my deck where I feed them nuts. They come up to me and sit beside me as they eat. It's so adorable!
I have one in my backyard. I named his Dale Earnhardt. 😂
Been feeding one at my parents house salted and unsalted peanuts. I call him Peanut, but I haven’t seen him today. I hope he didn’t get smoked.
1:15 LOL!!! Buddy just noshin' on petunia flowers while looking off into the distance yearning about eating baby Birds!!!!! LOL!!!!! *rotfl!!!!!* Uh-huh...lol...Erm-erm... ~That was funny!!!
1:28 Lol, look at this little chipmunk chowing down on those potted flowers. And he'll probably eat every last one of them, the little stinker. 🥰☺️
I really love that the person taking the video was more interested in letting the chipmunk do its thing than scaring it off the flowers
@@AnimalFactFiles Yes, if it were me I'd let him eat his fill as well, such a cutie.
@@beautyforashes2022 Hard same!
Wow!🤩 Nice video and loved the pictures!😁 These chipmunks are so cute!🥺
Love the little Chippies!
I am a major lover of chipmunks. I loved the times I fed them wildlife food from my hands. I also feed deer, but get a kick out of how chipmunks act, and play.
I love them I have 3 that will climb my deck stairs to come visit and get pet while they eat some sunflower seeds
I love this channel. I let my kids watch as many of your videos as they want.
Aww thank you so much! We hope they learn lots
I adore them. One has made its home in the ground at the foot of my back steps. I leave seeds and peanuts by its hole and provide fresh water for it. My indoor cats are glued to the window watching its ever move.
Where I live I have only ever seen 1 chipmunk at a time and only rarely, so I haven't been able to figure out how many might live nearby. Gret squirrels on the other hand, i've been able to count as many as a dozen different squirrels in the 8 years i've lived here. 🥰 I love when I catch them running around the trees, the ground and my second floor porch! 😍
Completely adorable!
Thanks for the video.
So glad you enjoyed it!
I'm about 90% sure the animal at 2:11 is an "Indian palm squirrel", not a chipmunk. I used to confuse them, until I started seeing videos of people rescuing them and keeping them as pets. They do look very similar.
The palm squirrel is significantly smaller than north American squirrels, and has distinct lines on its back, like chipmunks. But the palm squirrel has a much longer tail, and a long-ish, pointy head, with a nose that noticeably protrudes beyond it's mouth.
Ha, I was thinking at 2:11 - that doesn't look like any chipmunk I've ever seen...? Thanks for the info! :)
i love them they are so cute
I love them
Never seen one live but I would surely think: "Wow, that is a cute little squirrel."
I would like to suggest a mouflon video.
I don't see them as much as I used to. I would love to see them more! And thank you, that's an awesome suggestion!
Love them
Chipmunks dart and run so fast compared to tree squirrels and groundhogs
I love your videos keep on making them
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching!
Presently nursing a male chipmunk back to health after a feral cat mulled it a week ago…🙏🏼
Oh no! Best of luck!
Chipmunks Rule💪👊🔥💨
Chipmunk destroying my garden by eating the flowers.
Me: 🥺....🥺sooooo...😚 cuuuuutttteeee!!!!!
SO CUTE
RIGHT?!
wow
if i had to help a chipmunk or cat the chipmunk wins
There also very good singers.
Thank you so much I love them Chipmunks my brother has a whole bunch in the bluff wall we saw this month it's a February 2023
I am currently building a Gabion Wall, and these little critters is one of the several reasons.
best thing about chipmunks is the way they "run", or better: Move forward over the ground in wave form. Almost as if they were a furry photon :)
They're so cute when they run! Then again, they're so cute all the time 😅
Flying Lemur pls.
Ya
Nice one...
Thanks 😊
Awesome Facts!!!
Thanks so much!
I love them very much and because of how much I love them I put up with their destructiveness. 😅 They took out many of my cherished plants.😢
When I see a chipmunk I think of chip and Dale
Thank you for the very informative clip.
I found it a bit odd that the stats are given in both imperial and metric...
Glad you enjoyed the video! We give both imperial and metric because we have viewers all over the world and we're trying to be inclusive to everyone ❤ Thanks for watching!
Why is that odd?
I find it to be a considerate gesture to many who don't know both systems. This channel, obviously, thinks of all viewers, not just themselves and what is convenient to a selfish person.
this video helps a lot because i have a project
My jack russell loves them too....😏
thanks dad
I absolutely love chippy chunks!
I have 4 in my yard and I look forward to feeding them every day
They are characters!
It took awhile but I’m finally feeding them almost by hand
my cat has caught several chipmunks and has brought them into the house to live. I cannot get it to leave! I Can't catch it and now the cats can't either.....
thanks, dad!
who knew he supported animal facts?
Shouts out to Dad
@@AnimalFactFiles absolutely!!
Wait - so a chipmunk is a squirrel?
No. But Squirrels will kill Chipmunks. They are archenemies
Believe it or not. I learned that fact, and was surprised. Guess it's a food territory thing.
I just wanna kiss the furry tummy 🐿 ciooo cute . They live under my deck i feed them with sunflower seeds bread...🙃named my 🐿 Alvin
I named my boy Chippy …
is this true?...I have heard that Chipmunks store their food on their cheeks
They can pack their cheeks with food, yes! They don't keep it there for like... all through winter though, if that's what you mean by store?
Can you talk about tiger sharks
Sure! Great suggestion!
I love to sit outside and watch these energetic little guys Probably a racist view.
i feed them daily but crows and pigeons steal their food....
I feel like most people talk about this in the opposite direction - love that you give the rodents some love
2:37 cat picture with: I would have no chance at catching a chipmunk... I assume that is intended as humor since a cat will certainly be able to catch a chipmunk at times.
It is intended as humor, though our cat Chester (pictured) has watched mice scurry across the floor and done nothing, so it's also based in truth 😹
@@AnimalFactFiles ha ha ha... now I gotcha! lol
I have 2 in my yard they have destroyed all my poted plant's make a mess every day for me to clean eat half my plant's just a pain in the a** cute be a pain
Sooo I'm here because yesterday a chipmunk kill a baby rabbit my dog spook it and it ran away and left the rabbit behind
disgustingly lackluster view counts on such high quality videos. fuck the youtube algorythm
Why….?…. such vulgarity… disgusting
Why …. The vulgarity… (low-life)
@@joniangelsrreal6262 UA-cam and google deserve every vulgarity under the sun, and I could care less if it upsets someone as weak minded as yourself.
1:54 what was it saying? what was it scheming?
Please do a pika video!
Great suggestion! That one is on our list! Thanks for watching!
without counting tail, maybe 3 long or 4 inches too. odd thing is that siberian chipmunks are preys and predators of death adder snakes at the same time.
Can you do a ghost crab video
That's a great idea! Thanks!
Thx you
At lest their not mice.
