Love this version of Zap City, i haven't seen it for ages, must dig out my bootleg video of this concert and get it put onto dvd so i can watch it again. The band were on fire that night. Saw them twice in 90/91 on the Ceremony tour!
The box he plays his guitar into I saw a video he went inside the box and did some rewiring to achieve his sound he actually pushed the cameras away from it he didn't want the show too much
This is the best line up they ever had coming out of the southern death cult and death cult. Amazing bass and drums to back up billy's amazing guitar playing and Ians vocals.
I was at this gig - amazing, I think its the only time I've heard them play Zap City live - this whole gig was recorded for a CD - for a Cult Best Of collection.
I saw them just before the Love album came out and they were heav, then right after Love came out when Guns and Roses actually opened for them, crazy show. Then I saw them for the Electric tour and they were so fuckin' smokin'..they blew the headlining Billy idol and Steve Stevens right out of the water( didn't help that Steve Stevens was fall down drunk-2 times during the performance-still kicked decent ass surprisingly),.I saw the Sonic temple tour and I found they were getting and looking tired of the Hollywood fame deal, they were fucked up and burnt by the middle of that tour, at least the night I saw them, tunes were tight but they seemed to be doing a "routine", like Kiss or Social Distortion..a little robotic, it broke my heart. This performance is great though, wish i could have seen this tour :(. My buddy saw them here in Montreal about a year ago and said they were excellent...still belting it out after 30yrs....
Saw Michael Lee in Rio the Janeiro... 1994 with Robert Plant... 1996 with Page and Plant... Man.... no words can describe his amazing performance.... The Cult is one of my top 10 bands... Michael is the best they've ever had... Sorum comes second place
Ugh. Michael Lee is a grooveless player. No swing or soul. Sorum kicked his ass across the solar system and back. Lee was an embarrassment to John Bonham's parts with Page/Plant.
I remember that. Was really surprised to hear it. Not bad for a tune that only ended up as a B side (to Li'l Devil) from an abandoned recording session!
This was when the cult were great. They've aways been at their best playing live, and I agree the whole band were playing superbly, Ians voice at its rock n roll best. I was listening to this song being played in the USA in 2013, and fast forwarding the same Ian, singing this same song and it was pitiful. His voice is all lil barks and shouting. Still love em for what they've been and what they mean to people that have enjoyed their great music for so many years..
Super Power You notice all those barks and yelps too aye? i would not mind if it wasn't done every song though.whats up with that ,i don't get it.hey don't get me wrong i love ian and the cult but why all yelping, guess hes a real wolf child for sure, zap city is off the b side lil devil single released april 87,what a great suprise loved it
I saw them in 1991 in Uruguay (montevideo) presenting the album "Ceremony" I happened to be something different, out of the common but I was accustomed to seeing bands, with "The cult" I felt something else called mystical.
Agreed. Of the tracks from Peace that weren't reworked for Electric, this one was top of the list to be done. Unlike a lot of people, I kinda like their cover of Born to Be Wild, but they really didn't need to to it. Ian and Billy are great songwriters, and this really proves that.
Thank you thank you thank you!! We need more footage from this gig! Amazing band no matter what kind of rock they choose to play! I wish I could have seen this 5 years ago when I was addicted to The Cult ( and I turned my friends to addicts too :D). Thank you once again!
I would take an end of tour Ian over a fresh off the block Axel Rose any tour of the year....the 3:13 mark is honestly one of my fav moments in all of rock n roll...
What was the name of that movie Mark Wahlberg did, where he played a rock star? I'm almost certain looking at this video and performance that they ripped that whole act right from this video and performance. Ian had something unique about his style and voice. Amazing performance here!
I got on board with the cult just after they changed their name from the death cult to the cult. I agree the singing is excellent and guitar tone is sharp being a guitarist myself. Ian has one of the greatest rock voices of all time without question. However, to compare Michael Schenker's mastery against Billy is folly- Schenkers solos are masterfull & his riffs are without pier- it took Eddie Van Halens entrance to raise that bar.
The late but very great Mr Micheal Lee on the drums ladies and gents, RIP.
I was lucky to saw them in Bs.As. on December 8th, 1991 (just a few days after this gig). They rocked our heads. Great gig. Unforgetable!!
@@efeunoalot yo estuve ahi 💪👏👏👏👏

You're absolutely correct brother more people need to know about this cat he's played with some serious musicians died way too early
One of the best live performances ever in my opinion. The Cult at their mighty best.
I totally agree with you on that one I was @ this show
Ceremony live tour... best The Cult tour ever!!
completely live.... no overdubs...what you hear is what was there;-)
The double album from this gig is their best live work eva. 'Nuff said.
+Blackscorpion1963 I completely agree, they never were better....
Blackscorpion1963 Agreed. 100%
Blackscorpion1963 Agreed. Outstanding!!
How can I get my greedy meathooks on a copy of it?
These videos are fucking GOLD!

Excellent song! It's indeed one of the few life performances.
In my opinion....this live-version is one of their best songs!!!!!!
When they were good..boy were they good!
They're still amazing. Evolution
So true
Everytime I hear this song, I can't get the thought of Paul Reubens on top of a van going through the woods lol
Hey Hollywood,
DITTO.
Billy Duffy's guitar playing is driving me crazy. How does he find these notes? And that feel? The king of rock guitar.
The box he plays his guitar into I saw a video he went inside the box and did some rewiring to achieve his sound he actually pushed the cameras away from it he didn't want the show too much

What a band, one of the very best ever. And I still miss the Marquee like hell.....

RIP MICHAEL LEE
I have the double live CD from this show. Simply amazing. Billy's playing that night was out of this world.
with the live album audio, awesome
anyone chosen to sing in jim morrisons spot ( and do it correctly) has got to be an excellent artist.
ian stands taller than them all....
For those of old enough to remember - Zap City -
was on the ORIGINAL
Buffy the Vampire movie !
I remember that. Was really surprised to hear it. Not bad for a tune that only ended up as a B side (to Li'l Devil) from an abandoned recording session!
Fantastic song. Ian and Billy: The Dynamic Duo!!!
This is The best song ever ians voice is so sexy love you ian ❤️🏹

Verdaderos ROCKSTARS !!!
Great version of a great song. The Cult circa '85-'95 were a cracking band and probably my favourite of all time.

After it rains... I put this on full blast and go for a drive
The only gig that matters! Cult at their very best!
Whata fkn severely underated band
Love this tune! Just attended the concert @ Bikerfest in Phoenix - the boys still have it!

Rockstar!! You have to listen to the studio version of Zap City from The Best of Rare Cult album. That solo makes me crazy. The Cult is life style!
Love love love me some Cult! Oh and love Zap City and I have them all. Ian was on fire here.
Remastered?
Billy looks like the man on a Harvest Moon in this vid?
I'll try to remember to play this every 10/1 for the victims?
This song is a little bit Stooges inspired. I like it

It reeks of lost Teen Spirit?

Ian was obviously not at his best this night yet they released this as a live album.
Can't do anything from The Cult during this period. Michael Lee ruins it. Just like he ruined Page/Plant.
