I once thought the bible contradicted itself. But I'm a writer. I published a short story and a reader submitted a review complaining about how the characters talked like they were British when the story was set in Texas. The story is very much set in the UK. I responded to the reader and asked why she thought it was set in Texas.
This person pointed out the line mentioning something being as big as Texas. It was the only time Texas was even mentioned. Everything else- dialogue, weather (cold and rainy), terminology, cuisine all pointed to the UK. But because the reader drew a conclusion that shaped her view, everything else she read contrary to her conclusion cultivated frustration which ended in her (NOT questioning her own understanding)questioning and even accusing the actual author(me).
It was then I realized that my assumption of a scripture could later interfere with my understanding of another scripture which lead to me believing the Bible contradicts itself. This is where pride and arrogance need to take a seat.

Definitely Bible is not how God speaking too us. But what God already said. Also Bible consist different parts and not the same receivers but same reason why it's its made. There is teachings, songs , revelation. To know how people should understand God. Bible contains God's word but also peoples words. Those writing is from authors preserved interaction of God along with his servants.
The problem is not the book itself but the one who interpretating it goes wrong to understand the bible. Many teachers had fall in wrong understanding of bible and reflect itself to his followers and audience.

Yeah, makes you question becoming one, if nobody is going to take the time to listen. Doesn't it? It's like, I spent 20 years writing all these books, only for what? People to half understand them, or intentionally not get them.
So, I'm not sure what to do. As, interpolation is a problem I'm only starting to crack the surface of. Mostly it's due to the fact that the average person is half illiterate, only able to understand at about a fourth grade reading comprehension. But a large part of the problem is it's encouraged by top literary circles. And there we get into the problem that art has meaning, but nobody wants to take the time to know what that is. They just want it to be whatever they feel like.

"I'd rather be in hell"... said by people who don't even believe in hell, and have no concept of what it actually is. It's literal separation from God, so that nothing but evil exists. The worst thing you could imagine would never compare to it. It isn't just suffering, it's beyond any suffering you could ever know or comprehend in this life.

Exactly. Despite being surrounded by others, hell is an isolating experience. If the descriptions from the major prophets are to be taken more literally, hell basically sounds like a giant pit of refuse, fire, and maggots, all of which never go way. It’s on the very outskirts of the kingdom. It’s filled with shame and grief and anger, and the bodies that are there seem like they’re thrown on top of each other. My impression is that they’re bound to being a conscious corpse, always rotting, unable to move, just able to groan and weep and gnash teeth. Her statements were very typical, level 1 stuff. However, there's a difference between genuine questions and excuses.
Because we have so much access to whatever information we choose, it's becoming more and more obvious that ignorance is a choice.
At the end of the day, people just want to justify their sin and because of this, they are ready to run with the silliest objections.
I regularly look back on my "spiritual" lifestyle, and can now see how inconsistent I was, how illogical my beliefs were, and that my ignorance was intentional.

I think the biggest misunderstanding among non-Christians is the old law and why we don’t follow it. They look at verses in say, Leviticus where it talks about what you can/cannot eat, where, and do and think “well Christians don’t follow that! They must be picking what verses they want to follow and ignoring these! They’re not true Christians if they don’t follow every law!” They don’t understand that Jesus’ sacrifice and his blood covered all the old sins and we are now a new people with different teachings than before. Yet, no one seems to explain it to them this way and I don’t know why. As Christians we need to be better about giving context because just saying “oh we don’t follow that” results in massive confusion and makes us look extremely hypocritical!!

    • @Window4503

Oh, people have explained it correctly before. The problem is that the person is so unwilling to listen that they’ll just continue to accuse Christians of picking and choosing. After all that: “Well you’re just trying to choose what you want to believe.” I shut my computer down and got some fresh air.

To clarify that: Jesus sacrifice fulfilled the law (old covenant) now we are under (new covenant) grace. The old covenant-laws put in place to temporarily appease God's anger which includes animal sacrifice. New Covenant- God's grace sealed by the Holy Spirit and God's law written in our hearts made possible and covered by the sacrificial Lamb, the perfect sacrifice Jesus the Son of God.

The problem is that most Christians don't even know why some parts of the OT still apply and others don't. It's because, as stated in the video, the moral law still applies due to God's nature not changing. It's so important that we understand this.

I want to thank you for sharing the gospel online, content like yours helped me open my open my eyes, which lead me to opening my heart for Christ. I went to church until I was 7 and all I remembered was "Jesus loves you" from Sunday school. I grew up thinking that as long as I didn't do anything like kill someone, I would go to heaven, because Jesus loves me so he wouldn't send me to hell. From the age of 13-19 I was addicted to pornography. I dealt with other sins, like everyone does, but lust was the biggest one on my plate. In August of 2021 my UA-cam feed got flooded with content from you, John Piper, Doug Wilson, and Mike Winger. I finally heard the gospel, and in September of 2021 I gave my heart to Christ. I've been trying to live my life for Him, but in the past 9 months I have still stumbled a few times and viewed pornography and dealt with lustful thoughts, but each time I got back up, put on my spiritual armor, and put to death my flesh. I just want to thank you and others for exposing me to the gospel, the real gospel, not the "hell is fake and you don't need to follow Jesus to go to heaven" gospel that progressive Christians teach.

At age 29 I was a radical atheist. I went out of my way to argue with Christians. I was a rarity at the time. Sure their were many famous atheists and a lot of people were agnostic at worst, or indifferent at best but they were not outright hostile atheists.
That was 29 years ago. I’ve been a radical Christian for those 29 years. God his demonstrated his existence and his love for me on numerous occasions throughout that time He is a living God that wants to share himself with humanity.
But that’s not the point of this comment.
29 years later and I find the number of outspoken radical atheists is well beyond what I ever saw or imagined. I never imagined that we (they) would outnumber the Christians.

It is true that there is no DNA evidence of God’s existence nor is there traditional “forensic” evidence. He exists outside of time and space.
However, there is overwhelming circumstantial evidence for the existence of God.
Too many people think that CSI Cold Case is normative for solving crimes. Most convictions occur due to circumstantial evidence.
We convict murderers with much, much less.
Science clearly shows the design of nature. This occurs in the symbiotic relationship between organs and processes in the human body. These symbiotic relationships occur in almost all creatures.
It’s seen in the natural world around us:
The distance the earth is from the Sun - which support life
The distance the moon is from the earth to create tides which effect life.
Trees which filter CO2 and provide oxygen.
Watersheds which filter the rain and return in to the ocean where it begins the process again.
Science demonstrates that processes go from order to chaos.
Evolution postulates in reverse - contrary to established science.
For example: if you do not maintain your car or your house they do not become monkeys and onward to humans. They become rubbish. The universe demonstrates order and design, thus a designer.
The odds of evolution occurring in one species must be uncountable and miraculous!
Then consider it occurred in all other living creatures and in the natural world around them.
Which came first: the chicken or the egg?
It’s an oversimplified question but it should cause us to consider, which came first: the mouth which receives food, the teeth that chew it, the tongue that assists, saliva which softens it, the epiglottis, the throat, the stomach, the intestines which absorb nutrients from that food. When did the nutrients evolve. How did they know to evolve so that they could provide nutrition to the human body?
That is just one process in one species. Consider: blood, heart, valves, oxygen, electrical impulses, eyes, optic nerve, brain. &etc.
And that same evolution allegedly occurred in every species in the world all while the earth was evolving to sustain life.
Furthermore, for the evolutionist, their thoughts, emotions, and judgements are nothing more than chemical and electrical reactions in the organ called the brain. It is logically impossible for them to form a judgement on anything. Further billions of years from now those thoughts, emotions, and judgements will evolve into something else.
The Bible is full of prophecy:
From the book of Isaiah chapter 46: 9-10 He lists his qualifications for being God.
“Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:”
For example: the birth of the nation of Israel, their disobedience and removal from their promised land, God’s promise to keep them as an identifiable people and restore them into that land in the latter days. Prophecy regarding the Babylonians, Greeks, & Romans. Prophecies regarding the coming of a messiah, his life, death and resurrection. All fulfilled with noteworthy accuracy.
Testimony of contemporary historians who record the life, death, and alleged resurrection of Jesus. These are only historians, granted - but they demonstrate that a guy named Jesus lived and died, his followers claiming he rose from the dead. *by contemporary they lived in the approximate time frame that Jesus did. They record his history.
Eye witnesses accounts of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
Paul wrote 13 letters to the early church. He wrote of the resurrection of Jesus which was witnessed by 500 people “who are alive unto this day” says Paul. That is the claim of someone who was there and noted witnesses who could have refuted him. There is no evidence that they did.
The Apostle John records, in 1 John 1: 2-4
“we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We write this to make our[a] joy complete”
He claims to be a witness. There is no evidence that he was not a witness.
      Peter claims, in 2 Peter 1: 16-18
“For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”[b] 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.”
He claims to be an eyewitness.
Luke was a doctor and historian. He was a contemporary of Paul and noted the history of the early church and missionary journeys of Paul..
History records that 10/12 apostles were killed because they refused to recant the resurrection of Jesus. They refused to change their story.
Throughout history we have hundreds of millions of Christians willing to take the stand, under oath, and declare “I’ve met him, he’s talked with me, He’s changed me. He’s performed miracles in my life.”
I can attest to all of those things in my 27 years as a Christian. Previously I was a rabid atheist. Where I once denied him with ferocity - going out of my way to dispute with Christian, I am now a follower of Christ. There is no way I could deny him. My faith isn’t based on the Bible alone. I’ve met him. I have had innumerable interactions with him that are beyond human explanation.
These are intimate personal interactions that cannot be explained by “coincidence”.
I could tell you story after story, but unless you are predisposed to recognize them then you will deny them, call me crazy and look for every opportunity to discount them as nothing.
The human heart despises God and rejects him because he is rightfully in charge and to acknowledge him is to admit that we are sitting on a throne that does not belong to us.
And yet, at the same time, humans are deeply superstitious and will believe anything except the God of the Bible - who has shown his existence in very real ways throughout history.

    • @jvnd2785
      @jvnd2785 2 роки тому

It is disheartening but we, as Christians, have to have a good look at ourselves. Why do unbelievers think like her? I can tell you from my past (I used to think exactly like this young woman): it's because Christians are not consistent when it comes to following the Law. All the excuses why they can eat pork, black pudding and lobsters. All the excuses why they remember the Lord's day (4th century made-up stuff) and not the Sabbath day as the Lord has commanded. All the excuses why it's okay for Christian women to wear extravagant/revealing clothes. All the reasons why one denomination does this and the other one something else.
The Torah is as clear as day. Pigs and hares/rabbits, everything that lives in the water and has no fins/scales- these are unclean- they were unclean from the times Moses received the law from the Lord and they are still unclean. Consuming blood and animal fat (from beef, sheep and goats) was forbidden then and it is still forbidden. There's no reason why Christians should find excuses for their poor behaviour. It's not such a big deal to give up on bacon, is it? I have stopped eating pork and black sausage (I am allergic to seafood, haven't had a glass of alcohol for years) once my heart was refreshed and I don't miss it one bit. I am now in a process of cutting off all animal fat- being an epileptic, it poses quite a challenge (fat is what helps me go through the day without having a seizure), but it can be done. Anything for the Lord, Our God.
Jesus observed the Sabbath day (Friday dusk till Saturday night) and kept it holy. Nowhere in the Bible does it tell us to remember the Lord's day- so why so many Christians do as they please and follow human traditions on this Commandment? If you can follow 9 Commandments, surely you can do the tenth (fourth, actually) one!
If we are to be the ambassadors of God on this earth, then it is essential that we do follow what the Bible tells us to. No maybes, no ifs, no buts. No excuses. The Lord is so good to us, full of mercy and love. The least thing we can do is to follow His instructions to the dot.

The inconsistency is just heart breaking. I don't know who she is but i pray that God may change her heart and she can truly understand scripture and believe in Jesus of the scripture.
This is a reflection of a lot of people now days, they are living based on youtube and tiktok clips and they base their understanding on that rather than going to the source. I wish people would just take the time to go read it for themselves.

"The one described in the bible"? If you read the Bible for yourself as you claim people should do, you must have noticed that it's not one Jesus described there. Matthew's Jesus is different from Mark's Jesus, from Luke's Jesus, and all three are very different from John's Jesus, and yet again different from Paul's Jesus.
Do you mean the Jesus that said: "Whoever is not against us is for us" (Mark 9, 40) or the one who said: "Anyone who is not for me is really against me" (Matthew 12, 30), although both statements are mutually exclusive?
The one who said: "Whoever disobeys even the least important of the commandments and teaches others to do the same, will be least in the Kingdom of Heaven" (Matthew 5, 19), or Paul's Jesus, who happily did away with almost the entire corpus of Old Testament laws?
The Jesus who says: "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone." (Mark 10,18), or the one who claims: "The father and I are one" (John 10, 30).
The one who only talks about himself and his mission confidentially with his disciples, as in the synoptics, or the one who openly gives long speeches about himself and his purpose, as in John? And so on and so forth.
You have to decide which is the "one" Jesus described in the Bible. You can't have everything at the same time.

    • @doloreslehmann8628
      @doloreslehmann8628 2 роки тому

@@angelpaez6135 What I mean is that each of the New Testament writers had a different concept of Jesus in mind. If you carefully study what Jesus is supposed to have said or done (yes, in context), in each one of those texts, you have to come to the conclusion that it couldn't have been just one and the same man doing and saying all those things. There are contradicting versions, yes, even contradicting character traits.
None of the Gospel writers have met Jesus in person. Everyone is relying on different sources, oral and written ones, sometimes identical, sometimes different sources. And each and every one tells what he thinks fits best with what the actual Jesus would have said and done.
But it's just like different authors writing a biography about a historical person. The person they describe is always supposed to be the same, yet the descriptions contradict each other, they include some things others left out, and leave out things others included. And so, they give a different impression of what the person was like. It's the same with Jesus.
Just one clarification to the examples I gave: Don't you notice that "Whoever is not against me is for me" and "Whoever is not for me is against me" are mutually exclusive? Then try to picture this:
There are the people who are clearly against Jesus. And there are the people who are clearly for Jesus. And then there's a large group of people who don't know Jesus, or are indifferent to him. Are they for or against Jesus, according to Jesus? Well, according to Mark's Jesus, they are for him. According to Matthew's Jesus, they are against him. But what did the actual Jesus really think of them? Do you get what I mean?

    • @angelpaez6135
      @angelpaez6135 2 роки тому +2

I think you may be reading these books wrong. They may have different perspective but all describe the same Jesus. His foundational character all agree with each other.
When we read all the gospels in context, if you get that there are different Jesus, you are reading it wrong.
Each writer had different audience but all spoke of the same person. No historical scholars would agree with your statement.
Same Jesus and only contradiction is found when reading out of context. Name one real contradiction because your example is not a contradiction, same point written differently.

She is using hyperbolic expression here to say how much she hates the idea of God.
For comparison let's say I had bullies at school that made fun of me. One day the teacher says "where going on a school trip to a water park" and then I said "I would rather take a trip inside a volcano than be with them. "
It's not that I hate somewhere fun like a water park, but I also don't want to jump in a volcano either.
It's just expressing how much I don't like those bullies that are going.
In this case it's sad because I think she is being serious when she says I would rather suffer for all eternity because she hates God, and that pridefulness in her will unfortunately separate her from him. I used to be part of the LBGTQ but I never let that make me despise the idea of a God that would want me to go to heaven.

I would be crazy because even if I don't agree with everything they do, I should not hate them so much that I would rather suffer for eternity rather than going to heaven and be with them, that would also be an insult to Islamic people if I said something like that out of hate.

Secondly, if we can at least accept even the concept of an all powerful, all knowing creator, then who are we, as creations, to even begin to second guess or question someone who knows infinitely more than we could ever know? Even children of earthly parents question and challenge mom and dad nonstop and often think they know better. But if even earthly parents generally know better than their toddler children, how much does an all powerful God know more than us?
But let's just cut through all the arguments and excuses. The bottom line why most of us choose not to believe in or follow God is just plain old rebellion. "I want to do what I want to do and who are you to tell me what to do?" We all struggle with these desires, even followers of Christ.

If I were to slap my sibling I would probably get a stern talking to from my parents. Or whoever was there when I did it. If I were to slap my parents I would be getting seriously talked to, and maybe even some other consequences, if I were to slap a police officer I would be charged with assaulting an officer, if I were to slap the president of the United States I would be in prison for the rest of my life, and if I were to slap the ruler of Saudi Arabia I would immediately get shot and killed. Even though it was the same, single offense, as I did it to someone who was entitled to more respect and had more authority, the consequences were more severe, until even having the eternal consequence of death even. Now imagine that each time you sinned, you slapped the eternal, perfect, all powerful king of the universe of in the face. What consequence should we get? Keeping in mind, that unlike when we hypothetically slapped the ruler, we have sinned thousands of times against this king if the universe.
Same example, just different words really, but both are equally good at proving our worthiness for hell.

Given the definitions and connotations of this spectrum it could be a pitfall for many young Christians. After praying, God has helped me not be distracted (hallelujah!) which means no crushy feelings. Which sounds like what people call asexual. Some people may be so unfocused on romance they feel nothing at all, but they could go down the road as identifying as LGBT+. We should not label or seek to identify w/ worldly things for acceptence. All you're doing would be focusing on God! And this is not due to genes and whatnot, it's a gift of God that He deserves all the glory for!

Even though I respect the Bible in that it is written eye witness testimony and historical accounts, I would go on to say that the “changes” she says are actually apparent. But that it’s because of translation and modern day vocabulary usages. That isn’t much, but a word or two can change drastically in 2,000 years, and what is perceived now isn’t what was understood back then. This is not to say the Bible is “incorrect” but that WE are incorrect if we misinterpret.
This ultimately means that if you want to know what the actual meaning was, you’d have to read it in its native grammar. You must understand ancient reading comprehension of Greek, Aramaic, and Hebrew. This would help you get to the Truth. I would say NEVER take new age literature at face value as if they were perfectly copied.

Frankly, if someone wants to go to hell, then more power to them. People embrace various nonsense about the bible because it is convenient for their metaphysical preferences. I have had, for years, conversations with atheists making all sorts of silly claims about the bible and Christianity. After explaining things to them, pointing them to all sorts of scholarship and biblical teachings, do they learn anything? Nope, never, not once. Why not? Because their complaints have nothing at all to do with Christianity or God or knowledge. Jesus explains this in John 3: 16-21. The rejection of God has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge or evidence or biblical understanding, but is about a love of sin instead of a love of God.
Once I fully understood this, I realized that all attempts to teach atheists, etc. the bible, offer them great scholarship and so on are pointless. In the end, it's about a love of self and a hatred of God. I have several times gotten to this point in conversations where the atheist will outright admit that this is what it's about. They don't want to surrender their "identity" or stop doing the sins they love doing.
There is, however, a great value in apologetics, and it is almost 100% for the education of the Christian. We can learn a lot about the bible, the historical, cultural and linguistic context of its writings, a greater appreciation for its teachings, and more.

    • @baskeptic1161
      @baskeptic1161 2 роки тому +4

If someone admitted to you that they hate God then that person is an anti-theist not an atheist. I can’t hate something I don’t believe exists.
I do agree that apologetics is 100% for believers. These arguments are not going to bring non-believers to the faith. They do help believers convince themselves they are being rational.

    • @miesvaillanykyisyytta3252
      @miesvaillanykyisyytta3252 Рік тому

Of course they don't want to go to "hell" but they are describing how convoluted the ideas of certain believers appear to them. They have not resigned themselves to a destiny they do not even believe in.
People were almost bestial creatures back when the Bible was written and things have advanced so much. Modern human rights started to come about because of things like the French revolution. Some people will have an emotional experience or upbringing that will cause them to embrace some sect of christianity and others will have an experience that will lead them down some different spiritual path. You say that someone does not want to choose your faith because they love sin. Well you are engaging in a very simple fallacy of circular argument where you define that which does not fit your faith according to the private beliefs of your faith by smearing it as a sin, which is meaningless to anyone who does not believe in your faith already. That's like me arguing that not praying every day muslim style is wrong and you simply don't want to give up your wrongful freedom of not having to pray that way every day. If you want people to inconvenience themselves greatly you have to give them something in return and sociologists know that adult religious conversion is mostly about other people and not some grand theological beliefs that are not based on logic. If I find some people that are nice and charismatic and have the best time of my life with them and find out that they are buddhist the chances are fairly decent that I will feel compelled to become a buddhist.
Until the 19th century people in the west were in the dark about any other religion than christianity because the crusades forced us to give up our old faiths through violence and intimidation and we have only enjoyed religious freedom for a short while in many 1st world countries...for a much shorter time than blacks have been free of slavery in the United States. Even today in my country the christian church enjoys abundant state privileges over other religions that is keeping people in the dark about spirituality more or less but in this day and age with the level of education people have simply intimidating them with stories about torment is not going anywhere. Most people are far too smart and brave for that.

    • @HomoEucharistica
      @HomoEucharistica Рік тому

If we'are talking about being judgmental in Christian context, the answer is complicated. According to Christianity, being judgmental means judging one's whole being. Someone lies, and we call them a liar. Another practice homosexuality, and we call them an adulterer. And if someone does good deeds, we call them a good person. By doing that, people are guilty of blasphemy because only God judge people in that sense. Declaring someone to be a sinner we basically send them to Hell, and by doing that we make ourselves Gods.
Instead of that, Christians should say something like "forgive me, my brethren, for my weak understanding and merciless heart, but what you're practicing seems to be sinful according to what I know about God". That way, Christians judge the works of people, not people themselves, by following the teachings of the LORD... and therefore they themselves do not judge the works of people, and they even admit they can be wrong. In this meaning of being judgmental, Christians are not actually judgmental and therefore judging the works is not called judgmental.
So yes, all people are judgmental. But there is the way to leave it behind, and it's different to judge someone than to judge their actions... the difference most people probably cannot see, because one's works are seen as a part of one's being.

Ah yes… I was in the position she was at one point. “Why some issues we say the Bible says this about, but other things we say are outdated??” Then, partly from sermons and this channel I learned the difference between ceremonial laws and moral laws. The latter never changes, for example “thou shalt not murder” is a law we must always follow. No matter how many years it’s been since it was written. Whereas for ex. the Israelites not being allowed to eat certain meats was a ceremonial law. It only applied during that time for many reasons, not all are known even to this day (I encourage you to do some research). Anyways, there’s whole lists online and in one of his videos showing the difference between ceremonial laws and moral laws. Be familiar with it ❤️

All you have to do is look at Northern Ireland, Kashmir, the Inquisition, the Crusades, and the World Trade Center to see how seriously the religious folks take thou shalt not kill. The more devout they are, the more they see murder as being negotiable. It depends on who's doin the killin' and who's gettin' killed."

The only reasoning I know for a piece of ceremonial law is related to the not eating certain meats, specifically pork. Pigs will eat anything, everything and anything. In those times, pigs would eat the corpses on battlefields, which is why God said they were unclean to eat, because they ate dead humans (and I honestly wouldn't want to eat something that eaten dead humans either). Now, pigs aren't swarming the battlefields for rotting corpses, so they're safe to eat. I can't remember where I heard that, but it definitely helped to clarify that area for me.

It is important to remember that the Bible, which contains multiple books and accounts, was translated very carefully by many expert linguistics. Many people seem to have the impression that (a) random person(s) translated the Bible carelessly. I also have yet to meet someone who makes the argument that translations have mistakes to give me an actual example of a mistake, especially one that didn’t come from a random source on the internet. (So often, these “evidences” come from a throwaway article they saw or even just friends/family that don’t know much about linguistics)
Oh, and it is true that Hebrew has multiple words where English only has one word to describe a concept. For example, “love”. Thus, it’s worth trying to learn even a little Hebrew to further study the scriptures. However, these translations have _never_ changed the meaning of passages or versus. Not even a little.
Also… context is important! Never read a verse alone. God bless :)

    • @harrygarris6921

It's truly remarkable how much care went into faithfully translating and preserving the scriptures. The argument that the Bible has been changed in all these ways over the years was more common before 1947 when the dead sea scrolls were discovered. When comparing the copy of the OT in the dead sea scrolls from over 2200 years ago to modern translations it turns out there were no significant changes at all, just minor translation differences. I think the argument that we don't have the same scriptures today that the Jewish people and early Christians did is a pretty dated one that doesn't hold up anymore.

I honestly struggle with the idea of God sending people to hell too… I ask this because I am curious, and I wanted to know if someone could answer this question for me: Since God tells us to forgive others even if they do not ask for forgiveness from us, why does God not save those who did not repent and are going to hell?

Hello, sister in Christ. It's normal to have doubts. I used to struggle with that too. The answer to your question is this: God is both loving and just. It seems paradoxical but that is who God is. For He is just, he punishes sinners. But because He is also love, He grants us the Grace to be free from eternal damnation. Remember, we all are sinners and we all deserve to go to hell. It is not wrong for God to send us there because of that. However, since He loves us so much that He sent Jesus to die for our sins so we may have eternal life. As long as we repent (we must mean it), then God will forgive us.

But also notice that the father didn’t go searching for the son to force his forgiveness onto him. This is the same when it comes to salvation. We are saved, all of us, but it’s up to us to accept that salvation. If we don’t, God isn’t going to force it onto us. How do you respond to people who give the following line of reasoning for universal salvation:
    1. God is all powerful.
    2. God loves all mankind.
    3. Given 2, God wishes for all mankind to be saved.
    4. Given 1, God has the power to save anyone.
    5. Given 3 & 4, God will use His power to ensure the ultimate salvation of all mankind.
The argument is that if God does not save everybody then He does not really love all mankind or He is not all powerful.
Naturally many people will bring up free will as a retort to that, but if that's the case, then what about this argument:
    1. God created all mankind.
    2. God loves all mankind.
    3. God is all knowing.
    4. Given 2, God wants all mankind to choose Him freely.
    5. Given 1 & 3, God knows which people will ultimately reject Him before they've even been created by Him.
    6. Given all of the above, God would not knowingly create people which He knows will ultimately reject Him and receive eternal punishment.
Basically, suggesting that God is dooming people to hell by creating human beings which He knows will ultimately reject Him. And assuming God really does love all mankind, why would He not exclusively create people who He knows will ultimately choose Him in the end?
I am personally on the fence about how I feel towards universal salvation. But I've heard these arguments from sincere Christians, not anyone else.
I'm curious how you would respond to it.

He created even people he knew people would reject them. Because of free will, and because of Love. God. Because free way to save but if people refuse to reject the gift. They choose sin over God. Instead of forgiveness it's their choice. Wanted God to have people a choice. God knowing that people depress and reject his Son. Heck even some of his own kind Jews reject Jesus. Send his son anyway because sin has to justified . There are people to save.

Thanks for the reply. But I think you are not fully understanding my question.
      The question was this:
Since God already knows whether a person will reject Him before they ever exist, why create that person at all? It is not for that person's own good, obviously, since they are doomed to go to hell and He knows it. And it would not seem to line up with what God would want either, given that He loves all mankind.
If He loves all mankind, then it would make more sense for Him to only create human beings that He knows will eventually choose to follow Him and be saved, right?

I know multiple people who believe in universal salvation. However, they still believe in hell. Instead, they believe that hell is a temporary place, and that those of us who do not come to Jesus in this life will go there. Rather than a punishment, it's meant to be like purifying fires, where people finally shed the darkness of their souls for good so they can be with God. A painful but restorative process.
I'm not sure if I believe that or not, but it's an interesting idea to say the least.

I've heard a lot of non-believers ask, "If God is so good, why would He send people to hell?" He sends you there because He honors your free will. The condition of heaven is accepting God and becoming his bond servant. By refusing it, God honors your choice and sends you to the only other place you can go. God loves you, but He gave you free will so you could love Him freely. By rejecting Him, you choose not to love Him. You tell God you don't want Him. Hell is a place completely devoid of God, eternal separation. Hell is exactly what you asked for; to never be with God.

This kind of mindset can be compared to this type of people. But the difference is I can quit & walk away whenever I want whereas these people can't because it is for eternity.

Jesus said to spread His gospel to all people, but if someone denies you or turns you away, shake the dust off your sandals and leave that place. This applies to individuals, I believe; Not our place to do anything further than spread the news that Jesus is risen, then leave and say a prayer, let God deal with their souls, that’s His job.

Part of Dani's questions were things like why should a Buddhist kid go to Hell when they never heard about Jesus? There are also questions like what about misscarried babies or christians who lost their minds when they died? Questions like that go unanswered and the best answer I can give is God only Knows. God is the final Judge and he exists outside of time, all-knowing. It's up to God to decide whether or not those who didn't get the chance to believe in him should be accepted into the kingdom of heaven. Simply because he knows who will be there in the end, but that doesn't mean he won't pursue those who deny him at first. There is hope and a chance for everyone, but it's up to them to choose to accept Christ's offer of eternal life and salvation through faith and repentance.

  • @racheljenkins_04

0:50 "Do you think God is loving if He sends people to Hell?"
I heard a very interesting answer to these sorts of questions once. I don't know it word for word, so bear with me.
First off, God doesn't want anyone to go to Hell. He wants us all to be happy with Him in Heaven forever and ever. He loves us all more than we could ever imagine, and if Hell is complete and total separation from God, can you imagine how much pain it'd cause to be separated from your child like that, knowing that they're suffering for eternity?
Secondly, we are pretty much responsible for if we're going to Heaven or Hell. By the choices we make, whether we strive to be holy or be evil, that makes a difference. Now, none of us can know who is in Hell and who isn't, or if there is anyone in Hell yet aside from the demons. We don't know.
Third, and this is the point that stuck out to me. If you're ending up in Hell, it's a mercy. If you hate and despise and want absolutely nothing to do with God, then Hell's exactly where you'd want to be, not stuck in Heaven surrounded 24/7 by God and all His glory. If you really don't want to be that close to God, He won't make you do that.
And who knows what exactly causes someone to go to Heaven or Hell? There are some saints who started off as pretty terrible people - hello, Paul? Literally murdering hundreds of thousands of people? Now he's one of the greatest saints of all time - and look where they are now? Our God is a God of mercy and redemption. If He can make saints out of terrible people, He can do anything.
God doesn't send people to Hell willy-nilly. That's the last thing He would ever want for us. He wants us to experience eternity with Him in pure and complete joy forever and ever, joy and beauty that we can't even begin to comprehend!
And going back to what Dani said about how she'd rather rot in Hell with the gays: not every gay person is going to Hell. Being gay in and of itself is not a sin. Entering into gay sexual relationships is, just like a straight person masturbating or having sex outside of the bonds of marriage is also a sin. Heaven is not specifically for straight people, and Hell is not the ultimate LGBTQ club. There'll probably be plenty of gay people going to Heaven, and plenty of straight people going to Hell. And there'll probably be plenty of straight people going to Heaven and gay people going to Hell. Your sexuality isn't a one-way ticket to wherever you're going after death. If it was, there'd be a lot if straight people in a whole lotta trouble too.
In conclusion: your sexuality doesn't not define you or your eternity, Christians don't hate gays (and if they do, they need to do some serious inner work and reread the scriptures on loving one's neighbor as thyself), and no one knows who is going to Heaven or to Hell.
