I'm 24 years old and have Hydrocephalus, along with all other sorts of medical problems. I've had 100 brain surgeries since the age of 2, and over 100 surgeries in all. Due to all that I've been through, I'm not able to go out much or go to church like I want, so I watch sermons on UA-cam and continue to read my Bible daily. I may not get to go and be in person experiencing worship, but I don't allow that to keep me from worshipping at all.
Do you know if theres some sort of ministry or something where you can get some of the social aspects of church and get communion without having to physically go to a church? Maybe a smallgroup/biblestudy group? Maybe a pastor can come and give communion?

I'm also tired of the types of "Christians" these churches are churning out. The types that won't take a stand on anything even remotely "controversial" and spend more time condemning/judging real Christians instead of calling out society.
Ain’t that the irony? They say “Don’t judge” but have no problem judging actual brothers and sisters in Christ. They’re ashamed of us and Him.
Many of them are tares. Having a FORM of godliness but DENYING the power that can save them.
America is a land of many false preachers and many who are falling away.
Yet I find this comment largely judgemental and divisive toward people who need discipleship.

Wow yes. That is so true. I was one of them .... just part of the "Christian club" with a Christian based tattoo on my forearm (literally) but rarely read my bible and such a complete babe in Christ (for yeeears and yeeears).
I only just went to church for the first time in June. I just skimmed the internet at some local Churches and one Christ centred Church caught my eye. Me and my gf are the youngest people there (the members are all very old) but it’s wonderful. They are all so loving and welcoming and the preaching is God and scripture centred always. I have been enjoying my time there. Not to mention I love all the old Gospel Hyms we sing together. If you’re a young Christian, don’t be afraid to join a Church with an older community. Any true Christian will rejoice at the sight of younger Christians. Now I’m starting to bring younger people to the church too. You can always build up the young members yourself. God bless everyone

Though I do partially agree, it can also be lonely for young people if there are no people there in the same stage of life following after Christ within a local body. Plus, if a church cannot begin to bring younger people into their midst, who will be there to carry on the torch of that local body? Plus, older Christians are so often completely unwilling to bring any form of change on non-doctrinal matters such as music and or dress code, etc… I’m glad it has blessed you and worked for you, but I do want to caution others who might feel like seeking out fellow younger believers is not wrong.
So the criteria you go by is the fact that there are old people who make you feel good?? How bout making sure that the church practices what the Bible teaches and gives biblical sermons???
@@FransceneJK98 to be clear, what you mentioned is of paramount importance. No number of young people matter if the Biblical Gospel is not preached. However, a church with only old people can be unhelpful to young people as well in my experience.

The biggest red flag for me is when the preacher’s sermon sounds more like a Motivational speaker than the Ghospel being preached.
Especially when it’s “motivational” in the self-development sense… aiming to prosper aka : focus on money.

I'm a young man but I feel more at home in a small church full of older people than I do in any mega church that feels more like a business meeting.
As an 18 year old girl fresh out of highschool, who is also in the church hopping kinda phase right now, I genuinely appreciate the advice from someone who is a little older but still close to my age. It’s hard to find someone so young who is genuinely based in Christ these days. Also was recently saved about three months ago and your videos are a great guide for young christians.

I'm asking 18 and from Mint Belvieu Texas. I have a home Church there and I will say this reading a church's mission statement or statement if faith is important. And if they don't talk about salvation or they don't have a biblical stance or worldview than there's a definite red flag.
My advice is that you dig into the Bible deeply, study it do not just read it like a novel. You are going to hit a point within the next couple years where you may begin to feel embittered/frustrated spiritually due to seeing many negative things in life in general and in the church specifically. Lean into God during this time, do not allow those feelings to push you away from Jesus. Things feel really good early, but Jesus told us things would be extremely difficult; when you feel pressure and pain just know that those are the things that facilitate growth. If you feel comfy and nice throughout your walk that is a sign you are not on the correct path. Much love, sister ✌🏼❤️ God bless you and your family

I decided to go back my home country, and I basically have to start from zero, get to know new people, find a church and rebuild community. The thought is quite intimidating! But, thanks for sharing all these tips and things to consider when looking for a church :)
Lol it’s so bizarre to read comments that say “I’ve studied the Bible and came to the conclusion that praying to dead saints, believing in purgatory, calling the pope father and believing the pope is the mediator between God and men is correct.” The Bible doesn’t teach any of that.
This makes me realize how much of blessing it is to already have been able to find a Church because of my best friend. All glory to God 🙌

I love that all the people of the Catholic Church read the same three passages from the Bible on Sundays both from the Old Testament and from the Gospel. Then in the following week it’s a different set of scripture everyone reads. it’s just so cool to know that millions of people throughout the world have read the same scripture that day and that they’re all meditating on the themes and lessons of that week’s scripture. It’s just super organized 🤌
That’s why I love my church. Our pastor always says, go to the Word yourself, I’m human and make mistakes but God doesn’t, have a doubt, go to the Word. He is always open to coffee with people, offers guidance and counseling through the Church, and stands his ground. People tried to remove him for going against the societal grain and he said go ahead, this is what the Word says.
Isaac, sorry that you are without a church at the moment. Praying that God leads you to a proper Biblical church soon. I can't tell you the hope you give me for younger people. I'm 30, which feels old to me, and I've met so few people (of all age groups) that really try to understand the Bible in its correct context.
I left my last church because it started to feel more like a performance than a sermon. Honestly your description in the intro is EXACTLY what my old church is like. Praise God, as my doubts and concerns mounted about the old church, He had already placed a new church for me to attend. It's much smaller (15 on a good Sunday) but the pastor preaches the Bible just as it's written. The thing I love second most about this church is that because it's so small we can have a sort of open discussion, like a lecture class. If someone is unclear about something, they raise their hand and Pastor John is happy to explain further. He reads verses by verse; providing historical context, the Greek root for certain words, and he even has a "Christianity 101" for a hour before church that is essentially a Theology class.
I pray that God leads you to church like mine. Thank you for all you do.

I went to this church where every friday the youth hets like 30 minutes to preach about something but the rules were you had to right down everything you gonna say and hand it in 2 weeks before your turn. And when it was my turn the holy spirit told me to speak about the end times and when I handed it in the youth leaders literally said "no you can't preach about this its too advanced" how is preaching about the returning of God too advanced for 24 year olds?

The church I visit would probably be called a "trendy" church. Just because a church is trendy or has more modern music, does not mean it is not biblical. It is actually way more biblical than some other church I visited for a long time that is more "classic". Don't judge a book by its cover.
A friend from a church described their traditional church, as a boutique (so like not the typical 21st century mega church)
I then described my church DOXA, as the coolest independent coffee shop...LOL
Why, well, Expositional preaching (YES) Biblical driven series NOT topical, right now we are in 2nd Peter, Contemporary Worship music with some Hymns and songs from more independent artists thrown in like We The Kingdom, and lighting that is fun, engaging, and impactful, but that NEVER (well usually) brings too much attention to itself, oh and...ALL the instruments drums/percussion/keys/guitars/bass, with an occasional harmonica on the platform that are being played are what you are hearing live! (NO Tracks)

Ask them for a tax statement of their income (not a trendy basic pamphlet). They are a registered charity and should disclose this to their donors. If you ask most of the congregation where does that church get their money; and they can't tell you in depth, there is a big problem there.
If leaders dance around that subject why they can give it to you, they are money laundering and you should immediately leave, that is a pyramid scheme that abuses their audience for money and keeps them stupid.
One particular habit they have is getting a government grant as a community centre by attaching themselves to a school and hogging the centre. That is money laundering.

Im searching for the truth, a true Church. Im so tired of not being able to trust a churches teaching. This Made me go back a little to my Orthodox Christian roots after being a protestant/charasmatic for a while. And im amazed the orthodox church is so beautifull!!! The teachings, the hyms, the understanding of God and the humbleness is something i have never seen. Really want to go to a service! And i incourge you to do Some research to, i would love your input about the Orthodox Church. The Church of the first century. May God guide is, Amen.

After recently graduating from a Bible college, I’ve come to realize just how rare it is to find Biblically sound advice and talks on the internet, especially geared towards young adults in our current context. Thanks for your videos-they have encouraged me and given me a refreshed hope for the Church.
This is such perfect timing because I'm also looking for a new church for the first time as an adult on my own (at 25). I'd been attending my previous church for 10 years and I didn't really "search" for it, I just kinda ended up there for various reasons. Before that I'd been attending my parent's church where they met and were married. I never had to choose a church and I've been struggling with figuring out how "picky" I should be.

Hi Issac, this is Shalat. I’m a Syrian Orthodox Christian. I don’t wanna advise you, saying what I’ve experienced. I would say stick to the traditions. The Catholic Church is in my experience is wholesome. I don’t in any way support anything negative that goes within the church (as you mentioned in the video there are no super perfect church leaders or goers). But the adoration and holy mass brings such a difference. Above all, if you really want to find out, fast and pray and ask Holy Spirit. He will guide you. Let’s remain one in the love of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Sure enough! The Orthodox church is beautiful as well and I believe we are one in Christ!
The schism will end soon hopefully, now needed more than ever however we do know orthodoxy is the one true faith. Besides some liturgical changes and papal authority, hierarchy there isn’t much difference between Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy/Oriental Orthodoxy(although those two still have minor schism as well). If those few things were to change in Roman Catholicism, the Catholics and Orthodox would be one United church again. But I think there’s many old order Catholics that are still of good faith and toward the right path. We’re close but not quite there yet.
When you respect the Word of God in keeping it as it is, then you're a follower of Christ. But, if you have traditions from men, then Christ is not happy. In fact, you grieve Him with those unbiblical teachings. Paul said: "As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!" - Galatians 1:9
Catholics, Orthodoxes, or others similar to these, preach something very different than what we see in the Bible. And that's extremely dangerous as everything that contradicts the Bible is not trustworthy, it's heresy and Paul said that is under God's curse not under God's blessings. Keep the Bible as it is and Jesus will smile full of love to you and say: "‘Come, my Father has great blessings for you. The Kingdom He promised is now yours. It has been prepared for you since the world was made." (Matt.25:34)
@@alexanderstephen1567 question, do you know which comes first? the scripture or the church? and do you know that the earliest christians for approximately 300 years doesnt have a scripture to follow? do you condemn them for following and keeping the tradition that directly come from the apostles, which obviously is taught by Christ himself? i cant speak for the catholics but we orthodox church never change from the first century up until now. we dont have a pope that is infallible and have supreme authority over everything, as the head of our church is Jesus Christ himself, because he established the church himself, the apostle preach it, and the church fathers preserve it. Also, the church fathers who compiled the scripture youre using are praying and doing sacraments like we orthodox and other apostolic christians do :D
im not judging you for following protestanism, that's God's job and only he knows your heart. but its wiser to be knowledgeable about the things you criticize first. you should look into church history, try to understand why we do things the way it is.
This video is amazing! One thing that brought a lot of issues to light for me at our old church is how I was treated when I got pregnant. I was no longer on the worship schedule (I used to sing/lead worship) and other, younger women took my place. Then, I was told my baby wasn’t welcome in service and I had to leave him with someone I don’t know. When my marriage was in trouble, the pastor was completely unavailable and we had no support. The church just kept growing, opening new locations while it actually became a revolving door where many of my friends had already left. My husband and I became very aware of the church and values we wanted to raise our children in, and that church wasn’t it, so we left. We are sort of in transition as well. It’s hard! My heart goes out to all young adults and young families struggling to find a home church right now.
I’m attending one of those “trendy” churches. It’s been almost a year in this church… and I am not going to lie, I miss my old church.
My old church was Episcopal which is not my personal denomination but the people were amazing, and the worship was very heartfelt and more traditional.
The reason I left was because they started to preach BLM messages and politically charged ideas instead of focusing on the scriptures. I’m sure it has changed now that I left (we told the pastor we didn’t like the messages), but I sincerely miss how simple it was before.
Now I’m stuck at this trendy church. The preaching is great… but it’s much more like a concert than a church service.
I’m about to graduate high school in 2023, so I won’t be at this church for much longer. But I needed this advice. So thank you!
Yeah, I am in a similar situation. I love this church in Oakland California and I listen to them online but I live in Tennessee
I have been in big churches and small throughout my life. They all have their good and bad qualities. First you look for a baseline of qualities as well as services that enable your attendance and support a Biblical faith and practice. Then you look for friends, groups, or resources that can help you within that church. And finally, you prioritize serving others while attending said church. You aren't always going to feel connected. Human connection is hard, and churches are like split families; people come and go. But eventually you will find friends inside and outside of the church body to disciple into your life and nurture a healthy daily walk in the faith.
Unfortunate that messages about the plight of communities around you made u want to leave. It might not matter to you but these are real issues affecting real people. There's nothing wrong with a church trying to tap into that.

This video shows me how grateful I am to be in a solid church. As someone who is relatively new to the church it was surprising to know that some churches have an evening service I always thought church was only in the morning and what a blessing that was.
I’m so similar 😂 I’m immediately skeptical of the trendy-church vibe and I’d much prefer a small country church, whereas my husband loves being in a more contemporary place. I think we struck a good compromise at the church we’re in, because although it’s a big church that does try to make things modern and fun, the theology that goes into the teaching is phenomenal and they don’t shy away from culturally difficult passages. I think that’s really all that matters in the end.
This is an interesting video for me. I have a home church, my grandfather attended as a young man where he married, my father was raised there where he met my mother and now I’m an adult. It’s a very old and large church, the doctrine is amazing and the pastor is kind, understanding, down to earth, it’s really perfect plus our church has many branch works that web out across our county.
I feel so blessed to have this, I never truly considered how lucky I was to have such a tight not community that knows me well and so do their parents and kids and we’re all friends who grew up together.

This is great, thank you for sharing. the only thing i would have to question is the "coffee with pastor time". Not all churches are built the same for the same "communal" purpose. Some churches are small with pastors who have 9-5 jobs with wife and kids. Coffee with pastor works if the pastor full time is the church ministry and doesn't share that time with anything else.
But then are those like the church i pastor. I work full time 9-5, full time church, two of my own kids, wife, and foster parents. Good luck trying to schedule time with me for "coffee". but here is what i do and recommend looking out for. After any service, there should always be fellowship time. I sit in the middle of the fellowship room where we serve snack and drink including coffee. I stay 1-3 hours every Sunday (till everyone leaves) after service finishes and anyone that wants to talk, chat, hang out, get to know were i stand, this is the time to do so because once i get home, i take a nap and Monday comes and I'm back to the regular routine of working, dad duty, and sermon prep.
Ive had debates, ive had moments of prayer, cried, and laughed with many different people during that time. I also make myself available over phone and open my house to join my daily routine but "coffee time", yeah right!
Some will probably say "well thats not how it should be" or "pastors should have the freedom to do so". I agree but that may not always be the case, so a church that has a pastor that "cant have coffee" is not a bad church or a bad pastor.
lets not discriminate small churches because the pastor is not free to give you all the attention you are seeking ;)

Honestly, you might be interested in the Catholic Church. Our worship isn’t surrounding the pastor or the band. The worship is very intimate, and it feels like it’s just you and God. It’s so peaceful and full of love. We have good morals and despite what many may think, our whole purpose is Jesus Christ. It seems scary at first because it’s so traditional, but hey I mean if it lines up with what you’re looking for it might be worth a shot! Are Catholic Churches biblical?
Also doing the long run not having a home church. You see my biggest issue going into a new church isnt the new people, but the old people. As in people who've known my family as I was growing up but haven't seen me in years but want to "catch up"... strangers I can cope with, but the awkward people assuming they know me when they litterally haven't seen me as a adult is majorly anxiety inducing. Hence the leave as soon as service is over to avoid them.
Hey Daily Disciple, I appreciate your thoughts and you have some valid points. I am a worship pastor of a church that averages 450-500 people. Our congregation consists mostly of seniors and young families with lots of children and we might be what you consider a "trendy church." In our worship experience, we use a variety of lighting and a haze machine. We do a variety of "trendy" things on our social media accounts.
BUT, our teachings are absolutely biblical: we take very clear stances on sin and cultural issues in the world today (we are firm in our position against homosexuality, abortion) and we preach the good news of Jesus! As the worship pastor, I consistently remind our congregation about the biblical roots of worship and its importance, and yet I utilize "trendy" things in our worship services.
Let's not forget 1 Cor. 9:22-23: "I have become all things to all people, so that I may by every possible means save some. Now I do all this because of the gospel, so that I may share in the blessings."
By every possible means! Wouldn't you say some "trendy" things are worth utilizing in the church if it helps reach more people? Food for thought. Thanks for the video. God bless.
Hey brother! I absolutely agree with you. Trendiness can be used for the sake of the gospel in that way. However, I would like to point out that your church might be one of the few trendy churches that actually do this. Most trendy churches that I see end up becoming extremely gimmicky and refuse to convict or shed light on certain biblical issues. They can also get really worldly and carnal with the way that they do things.
So I just want to say thank you for leading a church that can still use trendiness for the kingdom without losing your holiness.

I think there’s a difference between conforming, and doing what you can to present the gospel
I recently transitioned, and it has been a blessing. I visited one church at a time for 4 weeks because I wanted see how they functioned. I also attended different events. It didn't take long to settle in a church that represents the Kingdom of God.
I’d advice to look into Anabaptism/Mennonite or Catholicism, I myself have been a church wanderer the past years and have utmost respect for these two denominations.
I’ve been both and Catholic is the way to be!!!! 😊😊
Just find a biblically honest Protestant church. Don’t turn into a weirdo just because there are bad churches out there.

Only by His Grace. Just read writings of saints, read theologians, read Bible! It is clear. Only by Grace. That is what Catholic Church is teaching. If you hear anything else- it’s an ignorant statement of someone who has no idea what Catholic faith is. 🤷🏼♀️ You do need to “bring” your heart to it..and say “yes” to God’s Grace. It’s freely offered, but God still lay you chose. We do have to “answer” but that is not work!

I was in an awesome church and then moved. Have been struggling ever since to find a church where I can resonate and feel welcome. I keep praying and think I'll find one where I can rest eventually :-). Cheers for the video!
I converted to Catholicism last year, this was a major reason in my original inclination to convert to the Church.
I've found that's the case with a lot of people. Unfortunately, this is because they are looking for validation from a religion instead of the Word of God.
I don't say this to condemn you, but you don't have to get further than the 10 commandments to see that catholicism is false.
gotta say, some of those bands/choirs like maverick city are really good and really help me connect with God in my worship, so as much as I agree with you on the annoying trendy churches, the music you mentioned is actually really good.

Music is very powerful in our lives and we must be careful about who's voices we are allowing to influence our worship.
I believe that it was the lead singer who was recently married? And I know that I for one was uncomfortable being presented with pictures he posted with his new wife grinding on him in a sexual manner at their wedding. It was very clearly unchaste, and a bad influence on any young fans of the band.
And then it was defended... There is forgiveness for such things but I wish they had repented and taken the pictures down...
@@charitybrook6279 yeah, I haven't really looked into them at all outside of their music, but I don't think their personal and moral failures neccesarily means that their music can't still be used by God to help people connect with him and praise him, I dunno, that's just my thinking, but it does definitely make me think less of them (on a moral and Christian basis) at least.
@@fastbirb27 I definitely agree! I can acknowledge that God can and often does use music to draw people to Him. Even if the artist is not doctrinally sound. I suppose my point is that as believers who are already on the narrow path, we should be careful to stay on it. And being cautious about what we allow into our spirits is a big part of that.
If someone has serious issues in their doctrine, that will work it's way into the music. And because listening to music is often passive, I may actually ingest doctrinal errors without realizing it just because it "sounds good".
For example a big theme on a lot of Christian radio is "uniting together in the name of love" which sounds good in theory. But most of these songs (if you pay attention) are actually talking about uniting with the world. Which is anti-biblical.
A lot of songs also affirm how much God loves us "just the way we are". Sounds good, until you realize it promotes complacency and actually encourages people to use their own moral compass to guide them instead of the Word of God. There's a reason there are no Bible verses that say that... God loves us so much that He died for us, but that doesn't mean we are fine the way we are. We are supposed to die to our flesh daily because we are NOT fine the way we are.

I am 26 and I am no more considering church attendance as a part of my walk with God. Maybe one day I will be in a place near a good Christian community and be part of it but where I am now, there is no sign of such things. I gave my life to Christ when I was 14 and have been in a few churches according to where school and work took me. I have realized that in many churches nowadays, God's will is no longer the priority; they knowingly and willfully preach half-truths and lies just to have more members and money. In 2020, I quit my job and left the previous city I live in because I realized that I had too many bad influences steering me away from God and even in the church it wasn't better. I moved to a new city and joined a new church where I stayed for a year and a half but finally had to quit too. I got involved with the activities and participated as much as I could and it lead me to see that many horrible things were happening. Most people just gossip and stay quiet because a few folks make the decisions and are untouchable. I confronted my pastor and he recognized that it was all true but he asked me what we can do if people refuse to change and continue to wilfully hurt people and blaspheme the name of God. I pointed out church discipline as the Bible presents it but it turns out the biblical path is not good for business.
Fellowship with truly born-again, God-fearing, and Bible-believing Christians is a very good thing, however, if there aren't such people around you, you shouldn't feel obliged to go to a church just because you have to. The wrong community will take you farther and not closer to God, that is not a chance you should take.

If you’re in a large city there are probably tons of churches you haven’t even heard of because they’re smaller!! Keep having faith that God will bring you to the right community in Christ!! (I’m from a small town so when people say “city,” I have a tendency to assume it’s a major metro population)
@@kelsiemarie3 I was in a large city but I moved to a small town in order to be closer to God and away from distractions and temptations as I build a more solid foundation for my faith. Almost all of my high school Christian friends no more attend church and had to quit for similar reasons as mine. One is in Italy, another is in Russia and they report the same conditions. I want to hope that one day I will find a worthwhile Christian community. However, upon studying the scriptures, this looks a lot like the great falling away of the last days that the Bible talks about. If that's the case, then things are only going to get worse. We should protect our hearts and protect our faith at all costs.

I've come to the place where I've even doubted the validity of "how do I find a good church" question, since we, those following Jesus, ARE the Church. Instead, I'm asking, "how do we, as the Church, BE... as the Bible describes," instead of perpetuating the "vain traditions handed down from your fathers" situation you're outlining so well. Comparing our Western church habits to the Biblical descriptions/directives/mandates of who we are meant to be, it is so obvious that how we measure success and how the Bible describes success nearly have nothing in common to, say, living out the Beatitudes or engaging the Great Commission or even preaching the gospel. Serving donuts is not discipling. Passing out bulletins is not discipling. Being in the band or running tech or accounting or maintenance or design or marketing is not discipling. ("And many such things you do," right?) Even the preaching of the sermon gets a little sticky, because the role of the 5-fold ministers is to equip the saints for the work of ministry, which is 'out there,' with the lost and the found, preaching the gospel and edifying those with ears to hear so that they, in turn, become imitators of the obedient congregation/hearers as we imitate Christ.

Great video! Something I’ve done in the past is email the pastor with some questions before even attending a service, it’s a great way for them to know that you’ll be visiting and be able to answer some fundamental questions. Some churches don’t have super great websites so I try to avoid judging a church based on their online presence. But it’s awesome when they have sermon recordings on their website because it will give you even more insight into what the preaching is like there.

Based on your description you would probably like a orthodox church, I used to be protestant and ended up at a orthodox church because they do essentially all of what you are looking for and don't allow political or contemporary things to intrude on the service, that being said some are still ethnic churches and may not do the service in English and not all have groups for young people, so it would vary depending on the church, but there is also a decent amount of English parishes so you should be able to find a English one, before you are your mind up at least reseach their values and beliefs and you will see correlations in your beliefs
I am a part of an awesome fellowship that operates together as the church. We do life together, we go out and minister together, we break bread together, we worship together (with just two guitars and our voices, lol) and we use our gifts. Rebuke even happens when necessary, and our goal is grow into Christ in all ways. Also, discipleship is huge. We believe all of us should be discipling and being discipled. I’ve never before been apart of something that looks so much like the church in Acts. There is no substitute for it.
Isaac, we’ve been on a church hunt for 4 months this year. We were surprised how quickly we said no to different churches that wasn’t going to fit our family. We picked one church where the pastor was very personable, the nursery workers able to watch my baby son who has critical needs, and the worship plus the sermon is spot on. This church we call home seems so rare that it feels like our family has hit the jackpot. Can anyone relate?

When I left Catholicism and became a Baptist I found a wonderful Bible based church that teach from the King James Bible. When I was searching for a good church, I discovered Dr Charles Stanley and he urged viewers to find a good Bible based Church. He was so right and Have been at my church for over two years now. I never fell for trendy churches or pastors who were more about putting on a rock show and do everything except preach from the Bible centered around the Holy Gospel!
I left a big church years ago it looked like a shopping mall and it was so fancy. It became so weird to me. After 12 years not once did I ever meet any of the pastors. The church band seemed like a rock n roll group lol. Leaving that church was the best thing I ever did. And yes, they had 10 different coffee flavors and about 100 small groups. I now go to a church of about 50 people vs 20,000 I’m so much more comfortable and I’m actually getting gods word now. Before that big church I went to a church that supported homosexuality not at the beginning but that’s where it ended up so it’s been difficult to find a decent church

I'm an 19 year Romanian living in England, have lived here for 6 years nearly, been born again in 2020 March, struggled to go church because of covid, then it took me a while to attend a local church because of it, attended the first one, didn't like sermon because they were telling stories instead of preaching the message. Then tried another one which I really like because it's not as big not as small, I liked every aspect of it just that I am quite an introvert and a bit insecure in my english, and I struggle to open up and have conversations more natural. I am scared I will never fit in anywhere and there is no church for me... I will keep on praying on this.
Don't give up. Try the tips in this video and pray for help. God will begin to give you opportunities to stretch yourself and be confident in who He has made you and brave/bold in ways you haven't seen in yourself before. Keep practicing your English out loud, anywhere you go. People love when you speak their language and we usually happy to help when you can't find the words. I was blessed in that I grew up in a church that was always preaching the gospel. But after our pastor left we ended up going through 3 more and the one we ended up with was a good preacher but lacked passion. I went through a period where I got into some dangerous sin and decided to live my own way for a while. But then my parents told me about a church they started going to that was amazing. So I sucked it up one day and went and that was the best decision I’ve ever made. The people were so loving and accepting. I immediately felt the presence of the Lord. The pastor now is one of my best friends and very much a mentor. I’ve never been at a church that is so infatuated with Jesus. The presence of the Lord is heavy at every sermon and during every worship time. It’s really taught me what it means to live and walk in the presence of Jesus.
Hi from England! It’s so encouraging when you see others in the body of Christ in a similar situation as you’re in. I am currently in a what you will call “seeker sensitive/ feel good” church at the moment & I really want to leave and find a different church . It’s so hard though! I’ve just been going at it prayerfully because I know that God is faithful and in control.

I see alot of Roman Catholics or eastern Orthodox on here saying this is why they went to those traditions. I understand the sentiment. If you want to run form the modern then run to to the stuff that looks the oldest. However I'd say that adding things is adding things. Extra biblical is extra biblical. Whether that manifest as candles or stage lights, holy water or coffee shops. Over the top liturgy or no liturgy. I think running to the other extreme isn't right either. This is why when I studied doctrine and church history I went back to the reformation. Alot of what we see in Roman Catholicism is due to Thomas Aquinas and alot of what we see in the modernist trendy church is from post modernism and the second great awakening restoration or revivalist culture.

When I had an encounter with God I wanted to learn the word by myself but God gave me the impression I needed a church body. I had a heart to heart conversation with Him and asked where His word is preached and led me to a church. I was very cautious and heard their doctrine. Once it aligned to His Word He gave me this peace that I was in the right place.
I can say I was baptized in Jesus name and filled the Holy Spirit months after.
God is always speaking so at times you just need to listen and He will provide a way just like Cornelius in the book of Acts.

@@freegracerevival for me it has been knowing the character of who God is. The more you know Him at least for me I hear the verses of the Bible in my head. His voice never contradicts what He has spoken and it aligns in faith.

I know this may be taboo but the Catholic Church has a book the defines what we believe called the catechism and our masses consist of an opening prayer a song first reading song second reading and a reading from the gospel (Matthew Mark Luke John) then the sermon then communion then a final blessing and if you become interested ask a priest about rcia classes that will build connections within the church as you join
Love it!!! I just recently left the church I was at for years, even talked to sime of the leaders and shared my concerns but it was in one ear and out the other. Finally God lead me to a new, biblically sound church. Just had dinner with the pastor a couple days ago and everything seems to line up. He even goes through whole books of the Bible one chapter at a time, verse by verse.

Great video Isaac! I fully agreed with every point you made in this video, I love how you made it funny and full of truth as well. One big thing for me as I found the right church for me in college was seeing their beliefs and if they differed, knowing the difference from a salvation level issue (If they don’t believe in the Trinity, divinity of Christ, etc.) or if it’s like a secondary issue (for me, it would be being heavy in speaking in tongues) I don’t do that but my current church does and it’s okay! I enjoy it, they teach the truth straight from the word, it’s great!

We also have different names part of the same ‘organization’ of CFM (Christian fellowship ministries) called Victory Chapel and The Door. We are a completely Bible based church. Prioritizing discipleship and making an impact by preaching and outreaching. We have just over 2 thousand churches internationally and nationally. We were originally founded by our late founder Wayman Mitchell.
As a Christian I really desire to be inspired, but more than anything, challenged by my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. My church really provides that for me. I truly suggest CFM to any and every Christian who’s looking for a church.
it definitely took me awhile to find a good Biblical church once I realized that the churches I had been attending were prosperity churches. but being in a solid church has been absolutely amazing because I am able to learn so much more and I have been able to actually be involved in a community that genuinely cares about me and my spiritual growth!

with my work/dreamjob pre-covid, I would move around a lot and thus church hopped a lot, and I had no home church so I had nothing to look forward to return to... it was a nightmare of never getting fed, never being part of a community of believers truly, and always on edge with borderline (or blatant) bad theology. Finally found my church when I could not leave an hour after the service from all the talking and fellowship. have not moved since and it is such a blessing. I can not imagine being with out them again and church searching.

Praying you find a biblical church with a faithful community!! It makes ALL the difference in the world! Went to a TED talk church when I first found Christ in 2019. Didn't even realize what was biblical and not. When COVID shut everything down, I started listening to the Real Christianity podcast. Dale explained what was biblical and not biblical; by God's grace my family found a solid, biblical, faithful and family-like community-oriented church in the heart of Miami. We prayed for it, an old friend posted about it on ig, and we showed up. Keep searching for a group of people dedicated to truth. May God continue to build his church!
Also, agree 100% about staying after church - the service after the service lasts sometimes an hour or two but there's so much connecting and just being together. My first church had none of that, we had to file out quickly so the next service could start... Bc there were 4 every weekend 😒
So seeing this video has confirmed what I already believed! I started going to a church I found this past March, a Methodist one. And since day 1, I have felt so welcome and accepted and inspired by the ppl and pastor there. It feels like a family. 😊 We've gotten together on several occasions, working together to reach out to the community. And everything we do is grounded in the Word of God. I love it! And it's the first church I've gone to since I was a kid; guess I was lucky to find it.
I went to this church some time ago and wanted to be involved with the youth, so I talked to the youth pastor and sat down with them and they were great, I was invited to work an outing with the youth where they’ll introduce me and work me in. They gave me directions and time and date, but when I showed up nobody was there so I thought I misunderstood the location or time and tried to call the leader and he didn’t answer. I ended up going home heart broken. It sent me in this downward spiral with my walk with Christ that I’m still struggling with today. I even tried emailing and texting the leader to try again and he never responded..
When my mom changed church, she told me the essential thing to choose a church is if that church could guide & develop your spiritual growth in Christ. As I grow older, I had to really choose between my dad or mom's denomination. I even pray to God to even let me choose a church that's different than them so they won't argue again. But God has a diff plan, and wanted me to choose a local church that focus on learning the scriptures, prayer and discipleship. And that made me go with my mom.

I have been looking for a church for a while now and I liked your thoughts on staying after the service to talk with people to get a feel for the church and taking some time to talk with the pastor. Another point I would add is find out who their oversight church(s) is. I didn't look into this at the last church I went to only to realize 2 years later that the church/organization they are accountable to is NAR.

What helped me find a church of solid doctrine was focusing on the priests. I analyzed their homilies (sermons) to see how much they aligned with the official Catholic Church’s teachings, which are rooted in the Bible, composed of all the Christian fundamentals like belief in the Holy Trinity, and bolstered by several layers of accountability to ensure the Church’s teachings do not go off the rails. The leaders of the church I wanted MUST align with Vatican City’s values, which do include a Christian form of social justice, and must NOT preach any New Age beliefs. Once I found this, I felt comfortable settling into a church despite knowing that the church is not perfect and there are shockingly few parishioners who hold certain Catholic values (e.g., Most heavy church goers in my parish are anti-abortion… but also support the death penalty which leads me to believe that they too are swayed by political value systems instead of the Church’s. Still love these folks!). In summary, I focused mostly on leadership’s doctrine when picking a church.
So I'm Nigerian, and I honestly think when I see even the churches that you'll call "traditional" might still be considered extra by some standards here... So I really don't care about the lights in the church, I don't care if they are what you call "trendy" as long as they stay on teaching the TRUTH of the Gospel, and focus on loving and discipling believers.

Isaac, this video was truly so on time with my life and spiritually right now, I know the Lord meant this for me. I’m heading into a new season of my life where I am moving away on my own to go to college. In the past year the Lord has opened my eyes up to the fullness of His glory and truth so much and I am glad to say I’be grown so much. In these past few months the thought of finding a new church, especially in the era of mega churches and prosperity preaching where people won’t stand on the Truth, has given me a lot of anxiety and stress. I was so encouraged by this video and especially hearing about your experience as a young adult. I plan to put your advice into practice (I may even make my first spreadsheet, lol). When I moved from Indiana to Alabama I had just started to learn about reformed theology and how church should be handled, I had a good sister in Christ and her husband help me find a church down here. I'm not sure if it's on your list (because I haven't finished the video yet), but I wanted to put it out there. If you have some one that can help you and answer any questions you may have, it's a huge help. I love my church down here, it's Mars Hill (side note,not affiliated with Marc Driscoll) in Fairhope we would love to have you! I also want to say there is no such thing as a perfect church, but if you can find one that handles scripture properly, and has proper core doctrinal statements then stick with it!

I think you talked about a big problem with modern evangelical churches. All of these churches are different and have very little in common, most of them have no strong official views on current issues or even theological issues.
I think the fact that you have to look at a "What we Believe" page, and then settle for "bare essentials" I think points out a big problem.
All of this confusion with church hunting is I think a big problem that stems from a bad view of what the Church is.
Just as Christ is not disunited (He is fully man and fully God completely united even in His death), the Body of Christ, the Church is not disunited. It is a united group with a set of doctrines that is universally agreed upon. It has a universal statement of faith (the Creed) and its doctrines never change.
The Creed says the Church is "One, holy, catholic, and apostolic", this is the requirements for finding the true church. These requirements cannot be interpreted to mean whatever someone wants. They are interpreted the way the Church always interpreted them. The only church which fulfils these requirements is the Orthodox Catholic Church.
I recently moved from GA to VA for grad school and one of the things I really prayed for was a solid church and church community. I grew up in a 20k member mega church that was kinda trendy but actually had a solid pastor that gave very biblical teachings. But when I moved, I really wanted a church that was much smaller, and honestly that didn’t have a lot of the lights, camera and action. Sometimes I feel like these churches aid more to emotionalism and I really wanted to grow in the word and community without the fluff of aesthetics. The church I go to is very old, maybe 100 members, half of the congregants are low-income, and I’m probably the youngest adult there. When I tell you God has used this church in so many ways of leaning on, loving, growing and doing life with His people, it’s incredible. My favorite encounter this far has been our choir director singing a simple hymn, Spirit of the living God, and I wept like a baby. No lights, no aesthetics, just pure hearts and His presence. It’s beautiful and so amazing 🥹🙏🏾

In this day and age it's hard to find a church that lives out from the world. A lot of churches this day and time AKA Baptist Churches believe it's okay to lie steel commit adultery and if you don't do those things you're working for salvation. A lot of them believe we sin everyday and worse than that they'll call you a heretic and tell you you're going to hell if you preach holiness.
It is sad this defence mechanism that people quote scriptures to get away with sin..if somebody says that to me now I will punch them and say am so sorry I was tempted we sin everyday.

This video was really informative and helped me to understand what I should look into when trying to find a church, especially the spread sheet idea. What really helped me was looking into different dominations and different ways of worshiping, that lead me to being an Orthodox Christian, all the love and hope you find your church!❤️⛪️

There are flaws in a church and there are MAJOR flaws. Well said, brother. I myself have to remind myself that we are not perfect, thus I shouldn't expect others to be perfect. Discernment is key, and may the Holy Spirit help and guide us.
Also, I'm noticing that your words get cut off just at the very end of your videos lately. Like, it ends before it ends, if that makes sense. Not a very troublesome thing tbh, just figured I'd gently point it out.

Even though the church I attend might be more on the "trendy" side, I still love it and call it my own.
There is a full blown coffee shop that also sells food, but I think it helps facilitate conversation and build community.
The music is loud, but there is a good amount of variety between songs. Also, and maybe this is just me, but louder music frees me up to sing louder and with more passion.
The total congregation reaches about 5,000 per week, but that's spread across multiple services and multiple campuses.
The main campus only seats maybe 300 people, so you can actually start to recognize people from week to week and build community.
The service itself is always great and the preaching is biblically sound.
One of their primary ministries is church planting, not to expand their own "brand," but build up something entirely new. They have a full program that equips the future pastors as well as help them financially.
And one of the coolest things they have is an extensive special needs ministry. They are equipped to handle kids with special needs during sunday school, and they also host big events for them every year and each kid is assigned a buddy. It's really amazing and heartwarming to see.
I completely agree that a lot of these churches today really do need to focus a lot more on formation and ditch marketing for the Christianity that fed our Christian ancestors for hundreds of years and really grew The Faith. I came back to the faith and would go to church with my friends and it always felt like a materialistic show, even if the heart was in the right place. Seems more people I know of are really starting to try to take ancient Christian testimony and writing more seriously and let it form them. My friends are a little apprehensive about doing it because after 5+ years of doing it myself I ended up becoming Catholic, but even they are starting to see the necessity of getting away from what a lot of places do now.
You are saying the exact same thing I was to my friends not too long ago. Many of them were not attending for various reasons.
