  • In this video, I paint a nasty old stained, green concrete floor with a classy deep grey paving paint to finish off a simple but very stylish space.
    In the previous video (link below), I paint the old stained, brown wall bricks of the same space (small studio/ work area) with a lovely bright white colour, to take advantage of a very small but well lit room.
    Both these easy DIY jobs are inexpensive to complete yet they give a stunning result that completely changes the feel of the space.
    Cheers, Mark. 👍

    This is one of the best basement floor painting I've seen! I've been watching many on youtube as I get ready to paint my basement. I was going to use epoxy but saw the reviews and did research, eh, I decided not to bother with it. So paint it is😍 Thank you!!

      I wish! There is a very slight gap between the floor and the wall, so the bristles of the brush could slide through without touching the wall. Otherwise the tape would have come out! Thanks for watching, cheers!

    If you were to add a protective layer (if you used water base paint) what would you use? Poly??

    • @MarkdoesDIY
      @MarkdoesDIY  2 роки тому

      Yes, probably a poly type product but some variables to consider are moisture content of the area and type of exposure such as foot traffic and so on. I would consult with my hardware retailer first. Cheers.

    Nice job! How long that last for the nice looking?

    • @MarkdoesDIY
      @MarkdoesDIY  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! I re-coat it about once a year. I have a slight water seepage issue in the concrete base and so I didn't seal it as i knew it would need re-painting at some stage. If you have no such moisture issues and the concrete is cleaned and prepared correctly and the correct paint is used followed by a suitable sealer it should last for years with just normal cleaning. Cheers, thanks for watching and commenting! 👍

    How is that floor holding up. It seems u did minimal prep/cleaning. I ask because I've seen people go to great lengths to get their floor clean. I want to do this in my apartment. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    • @MarkdoesDIY
      @MarkdoesDIY  4 роки тому +3

      Yes, I checked with a floor coating professional and he said that as the floor has been painted previously, a sand, wash and detail vacuum should suffice. I could have gone for an acid wash as well but I decided not to. I would probably do the acid wash if I was to do it again. The area near the wall water pipe became white after several months but this was due to water seeping up through the concrete and it also made the foot traffic area age prematurely. This floor was a small area to cover so I easily re-painted it and will need to do it again within 12 months. The room is also located off the rear of the main unit and does not endure high usage. For an interior area or a high usage area I would acid wash first and have any issues/repairs attended to first (such as the water seepage). Thanks for watching, Mark.

  • @babyyoba2195
    @babyyoba2195 4 роки тому +1

    How is holding up? Did you put a sealer on it?

    • @MarkdoesDIY
      @MarkdoesDIY  4 роки тому

      I noticed, after a couple of months, a little 'whitening' of the painted surface around where the water pipe comes through the floor to the wall and discovered that there is a little moisture seepage up through the concrete. As a result I gave it another coat and may need to do this once a year or so. I didn't put a sealer on it and in this case it was probably a good thing. If there was no moisture seepage though, a sealer might be wise. Thanks for watching!

    How's it holding up? Any peeling?

    • @MarkdoesDIY
      @MarkdoesDIY  3 роки тому

      No peeling but the area around the water pipe has a slow moisture weep up through the concrete and this has made the immediate surface area slowly go a little white in colour. Not really a problem as it's a small total area and I'm happy to re-paint. Cheers, thanks for watching!

      Hi George, I checked with a professional floor coater first and was advised that as the surface had already been painted that it should just need a good clean first and as it is not outside that a sealer probably isn't necessary. However, if i was to do it again I would use an acid wash first and a sealer at the end . Cheers, Mark.

    How come it’s not shiny?

    • @MarkdoesDIY
      @MarkdoesDIY  3 роки тому +1

      I discovered just after completing the floor that the old concrete had a very slight water seepage and will periodically leave water marks on the painted surface (near the water pipe). So I decided not to put a clear coat on the top as it will need to be re-painted when the water mark becomes too visible. That's why it's not shiny. Thanks for watching, Cheers!
