I mean, he's not being presented as the singles star he's capable of being, but considering he's a two time champ I would not consider them dropping the ball on him. Aew just has a different need for him. Would I make him a singles star? 100%. but being a tag champ is better than nothing
I’m not an AEW fan but they have a bigger Tv deal than any of the other companies. His English promos are subpar. TNA is a fool for ever putting a main title on a non English speaker. When you’re on Tv you need good promos from your main guys. AEW also has WAY more stars than any of those companies. They put the tag and trios title on him. What more should he get?

The thing with Penta is he's mostly over due to having insane amounts of charisma. I've seen him live multiple times and crowds are practically eating out of his hands from how well he carries himself
he sort of reminds me of La Parka: charismatic with a great look and a guy with enough size and weight to him that he makes a good base for the flippy luchadores (like his brother) to work from.
Like many people said here, my first exposure to Pentagon Jr. was from Lucha Underground (which I miss very much). He's definitely one of my modern faves.
Will give Penta credit where it’s due. This man did multiple recording for TNA and LU at the same time . Working rather injured and over exhausted doing many matches back to back before travelling cross state to repeat the progress. He was jumping between shows non stop when in TNA
This was all I could think while watching his performance slow and his involvement dwindle as the video went on. These guys usually run themselves ragged
I think Impact's taping schedule might have been an issue for Penta. If I remember correctly, they taped multiple episodes in the same day. All the while, Penta was also wrestling in Lucha Underground & AAA.
This is the problem with post LU penta...he is primarly a tag guy and majority of what made him pretty much a god to LU fans is gone , if you want to properly get what made Pentagon so popular do his entire LU run which is by far the best version of him and the same goes for Fenix.
If there's one Penta AEW match I could recommend, it would be the Lucha Brothers vs the Young Bucks in a Steel Cage. IMO the best match those two had in AEW.
- Pentagon Jr is the son of Pentagon, a luchador who had a great feud with the AAA legend Octagon, 30 something years ago, where he lost his mask and the matial arts gimmick to Octagon. (feuds in mexico are seldom with people with the same gimmick and end with a lucha de apuesta, mask v. mask or mask v.hair). - Hence pentagon inherited the gimmick that he throws a lot of kicks and I think that he incorporates a bit of La Parka with it, through the ring gear and the mannerism. In Mexico he is super over because he is Vampiro's pupil. - If look closer you will realize that his moveset is the same as Kevin Owens
Actually in Lucha culture if you’re taking up the mantle of your father you’d be called “El Hijo del [insert Luchador’s name]” (like El Hijo del Fantasma who was shown in this video) but if you’re not their son then you’d usually get a Roman numeral or a “Jr,” at the end of your name (the latter would of course be nullified if you have your father’s name and you both wrested under your real names)
R.I.P. Melissa Coates/The Genie. I met her and Daffney, in 2011. She was a very nice lady! I had no idea who she was. She just came up to me and my buddy, and started talking to us, like we knew who she was or something. She talked out ear off for 10+ minutes. She was really down to earth, blunt and likable charisma.
Between the lion dance and the samurai-like gear, it's nice to see the Lucha Brothers to incorporate other cultures in their entrances other than their own.
I personally liked Pentagon's run in IMPACT with the main highlights being his tag title run and the feud with Sami Callihan. He was also amazing in Lucha Underground where, like many fans, were first exposed to him and it's the show that made him a star. Also, insert day number here of me requesting Marty The Moth's Lucha Underground run for Ring Of The Hawk.... also, if the rumours are true about him leaving AEW (and he does), CM Punk could qualify for Ring Of The Hawk with 23 matches so far. I'd like to see that.
The Key to the Lucha Brothers team, and his involvement in many matches in this run overall, is that Pentagon is a damage sponge... He can take a huge amount of abuse in the matches, and his opponents look good... Also, his sling blade blows Seth Rollins and Finn Balor out of the water for its look... Best execution of that move I have ever seen stateside on a consistent basis

That botched Spanish Fly from Fenix looked nasty and Fenix was lucky to not break his neck I loved Pentagon in IMPACT and it’s always a nice change to see him booked better than his brother Fenix who seems to get all the praise 😃
Pentagon was the perfect tweener in LU. I genuinely feel like he was the best tweener in the last 10 years in LU. I feel like AEW hasn’t been doing the best with fenix and pentagon because they don’t need to be in a tag team. They’re that damn good
Pentagon was great, but I'd DEFINITELY say he was a Heel more than a Tweener. If you try to set a man on fire because he stopped you breaking an innocent woman's arm, you are EVIL.
Alot like other comments, Lucha Underground pentagon is why he was positioned so highly out of the gate coming into impact. He managed to get over massively and the Cero Miedo phrase was too catchy
I was introduced to pentagon jr. at lucha Underground and become one of my all time faves, I watched him also in aew, pwg, and also tna, I wanted to see him in the main event picture as a singles star in aew as he was in LU
If I remember correctly, the Lucha Brothers wrestled like 500 matches a year during this time. They were full timers in multiple promotions, it's no wonder that Penta wasn't full effort in a lot of his matches here. He can definitely be a top level performer when he's all out, both on his own and also in the Lucha Bros.
Pentagon is one of my favorites but he is definitely more about his character then his in ring work not that he's a bad wrestler which he is definitely not . The point is I fully understand and agree with your assessment based solely on the way that you have always scored these videos
The feud with OVE, the hair vs mask match, and the Mexican death match are the matches that in my mind cemented Sami Callahan as one of the biggest heels and most over and respected guys on the impact roster since the TNA days before 2015, it definitely made me a big Callahan fan.
I personally love penta he's one of my favorite modern talents along with certain guys in new japan but he's been heavily underutilized as off late. If I were to give a recommendation for ring of the hawk then maybe an episode of either Okada in tna or M.V.P's run in tna

I wonder if Brian Cage would qualify to be on an episode of Ring of the Hawk. Not really sure how many matches he had with the company but his run was interesting to say the least.
I only know Penta from LU, AAA and AEW so it's crazy to me that he does so little so often. In most matches it feels like he has a list of moves he absolutely has to get in before the end that he speedruns through
Marky duuuudddeee, that Jeff Hardy clip is the best most random thing every time I see it. Duuuuudde. I was watching Impact wrestling with my friend Shannnnonnnnnn
Penta had a fantastic run in Lucha Underground, and dude has some strenght for his size and some fantastic moves. But as I saw in AEW he falls into the 'big flashy moves are what will get me over' bit. His Tag Matches in AEW as part of the Lucha Bro's are pretty infamous for them just never bothering to follow the rules of a match directly in front of the ref, so any kind of match psychology was out the window, more-so than most AEW matches.
I like Penta well enough. His matches are almost always fun. But, I am always more interested in seeing Fenix who I think is one of the most exciting wrestlers in the world.
Penta and Fenix are two of my favs. My first exposure was his Impact run and I later saw his work in Lucha Underground which was amazing. I miss that show. Marky D failed to acknowledge the whole situation that led to Penta winning the championship. Alberto El Patron no showed the main event on the AAA show against Aries. They then did Aries vs Penta vs Fenix with Aries retaining. They then rushed to do a rematch for Impact in which they booked a shock finish with Penta winning. At the time there was a lot of cross over with Impact and AAA/Lucha Underground. Based on the taping schedule, I believe he actually had the belt less than a week.😂
I mean the match that I remember from his Impact run is the Slammiversary hardcore match which was brutally great and also the HOME COMING tag match with LAX...
Penta’s work in Lucha Underground, MLW and AAA was amazing. His run in TNA was pretty good in my opinion. The problem with the TNA run is Penta was outshined by Fenix, like you mentioned. Penta is in my top 5 of Luchador wrestlers.
Some fair comments from this video, even if I'm a Pentagon fan (Like most, it's from his Lucha Underground days) One thing I will contest is the idea that Pentagon's kick wouldn't hurt. Size matters, but it doesn't make you invincible as some people seem to believe and smaller fighters have legitimately K.O'd fighters MUCH bigger than them. Not to mention that Elix isn't all that much bigger than Pentagon anyway, the guy is pretty stocky, and it was a mid-air kick which adds a lot of momentum to the impact.
That first match summed up both Penta and Fenix for me. The first time you see them you can't help but be impressed by their athleticism and fluidity, they're very, very good at what they do. However, once you've seen a few matches you realise that you saw everything they could do the first time around. What follows is the same match filled with the same no-selling consequence free high spots, 25 superkicks and matches that go on forever. If you dig choreography and cooperation leading to incredibly athletic high spots then they're for you. If you want any subtlety, ring psychology, story-telling or god forbid believable wrestling then they're probably not. I got bored of them very quickly in AEW. If the matches were shorter it'd cover a lot of the problems as the main issue is all those devastating moves that lead nowhere or get no sold.
I first caught Pentagon on LU when I binge watched every episode on Netflix. You can put me in the camp of people who was expecting more high flying BUT I think the ground work he puts in fits his character better. He does not need to be flashy, that is for all the other guys. He just needs to show up, kill everyone, then leave.
30:21 I swear I thought he said "Rest In Peace S1u+ Lady"! 😂😂😂 I knew he probably hadn't but to my ears it sounded like he had. I mean.....shes kinda dressed like one ya hnow 😂😂😂
Penta was mostly signed to be a tag team guy with his brother in AAA and AEW. He's been doing quite well. He's definitely a mainstay and has even beaten the Bucks with Fenix.
One of the brothers should have pinned the other without resistance after working on Aries and agreed a rematch between only the brothers after stealing the title for one of them. You could then have one of them cheat to retain and feud with each other. Im amazed he won the title - was expecting Aries to retain!
His Lucha Underground run was a good time from what I remember, but I found most of Lucha Underground a good time so maybe i’ve got rose tinted glasses
Hhheeyy penta is in my top 3 favs. The death triangle is one of the best things in AEW. Love the channel.. Phenix is deff in my top 10 favs too . Great workers
Hey Hawk, big fan over here! Can i give you two indications for candidates on Ring of the Hawk? Doug Williams's run on TNA - Since you love wrestlers who use bricks! LAX's first run on TNA with Konnan - They were completely badasses!
I've tried to enjoy their matches when i first saw them 3 years ago , but like they are entertaining if you have short attention span, and just want to see a spot fest , not to say that these matches don't have a spot in wrestling just as an opener ir something
Penta was amazing to me in TNA, LU and MLW, AEW has dropped the ball on him bad.
Agreed
I mean, he's not being presented as the singles star he's capable of being, but considering he's a two time champ I would not consider them dropping the ball on him. Aew just has a different need for him. Would I make him a singles star? 100%. but being a tag champ is better than nothing

You could then have one of them cheat to retain and feud with each other. Im amazed he won the title - was expecting Aries to retain!
Pentagon winning the title definitely isn't the TNA we loved
His Lucha Underground run was a good time from what I remember, but I found most of Lucha Underground a good time so maybe i’ve got rose tinted glasses
Penta jr and FedEx are a good team
I loved him in Lucha Underground but had no idea he wrestled in TNA as well.
Once Reigns title reigns ends, I'd be looking forward to see his RoH as his run as The Tribal Chief, that video would blow up.
Hhheeyy penta is in my top 3 favs. The death triangle is one of the best things in AEW. Love the channel.. Phenix is deff in my top 10 favs too . Great workers
I've seen match 6, only one out of this. Loved the super RKO party lol
Penta matches are like 10% good, 50% getting battered and then 40% doing his dumb hand gesture thing.
That first match! Damn that was good shit!
thank you for covering pentagon
Hey Hawk, big fan over here! Can i give you two indications for candidates on Ring of the Hawk?
Doug Williams's run on TNA - Since you love wrestlers who use bricks!
LAX's first run on TNA with Konnan - They were completely badasses!
Homecoming was in Nashville in the old TNA Asylum
12:04 At first I heard as "Seagal Squad" 😆Whoa! Steven Seagal going Wrestling. Just kidding :)
The Crist brothers have changed A TON since i first saw them in ROH ! I dig em though
He reminds me of La Parka kinda. Which is great. He’s got a badass look.
2:03 Jeez, all those titles are so flat... just like Austin Aries imagination of how the earth looks like.
His match with Omega at All in is a banger
Return of the swanton steal love it
I've tried to enjoy their matches when i first saw them 3 years ago , but like they are entertaining if you have short attention span, and just want to see a spot fest , not to say that these matches don't have a spot in wrestling just as an opener ir something
watch his lucha underground work his wrestling/lucha ability is really put on display there definitely his best piece of work
Excluding the velocity and wwecw matches, I think Shannon Moore's wwe run qualifies.
