Going from Hans Zimmer to Jay-z says everything you need to know about quality of Gladiator 2.
Eh though I agree the music is bad I wouldn’t go as far as to generalize overall quality being down just because of a specific artist, unless you don’t like said artist of course. Here it’s just a case of wrong place wrong time. The movies trying to be serious and dramatic but with Denzel being Denzel and the wrong type of music - the movie feels off and more aligned with the current trends in Hollywood. It doesn’t feel as authentic as the first one.

Gladiator is a perfect film. A masterpiece. It never needed a remake, a sequel or a prequel.
The original movie wasn't even good. It was a poorly written piece of historical revisionism that pissed away everything cool about commodus and that time period and turned him into "evil incest rapist joker" so they could have their lame self-insert maximums exist and be a good guy to kill the evil bad guy like its a marvel movie.

They could have EASILY made this a movie set in this time-period without piggy-backing on the original Gladiator.
Give it a different title, change the names, make ZERO references to the original, and they could have limited the backlash.
But that's too EASY... They would rather try to capitalize on the success of the first film, and piss-off fans in the process.
That would require a lot of work, and if they did a different movie with the same type of narrative, Ridley Scott would have probably had to sue Ridley Scott for plagiarism.
And Ridley Scott won't take that risk.

There are so many cool historical fiction stories someone could have made in a Roman setting. It shows how creatively bankrupt Hollywood is right now to do "Gladiator 2." How about a movie about Roman Political Intrigue? People like talking about how evil Slavery is now a-days. Rome was a slave society. The TV Series Spartacus hit on some interesting themes, that could also translate into an interesting movie. Vorenus and Polo made an interesting duo from the TV Series "Rome." Could someone play on those types of themes in a movie, not making a sequel, but writing something original?

The original Gladiator was a masterpiece and needed no sequel. At all. It told its own story, which concluded perfectly with Maximus earning his freedom. Even 16 year old me knew back in 2000 that it didn’t need a sequel. And now, here we are, 24 years later, seeing a shameless cash grab being pumped out just so Ridley, Denzel and company can collect a paycheck, I will be respectfully staying away from this come November, and will stick with the original.

I watched the original recently. It's 24 years old and it is still awesome. Especially with the 4K remaster. The trailer isn't the worst thing I've ever seen, but it doesn't make me want to go see it. It's a sequel. It's a cheap cliche that I could have written. Uh, now his son has to fight in the Coliseum. 🙄 And I want a giant CGI Rhino. I want it straight out of Jurassic Park. Riddle Scott could have found another story to do about the fall of Rome. Or here's a novel idea. They could have written an original story set during the fall of Rome. I'll watch this one, but only when it's free on Paramount Plus next year. If Paramount still exists. They were bought by Skydance. They are bleeding money. I wonder 🤔 why that's happening?

The character Denzel is playing was North African but not black. Hollywood needs to learn the difference between Sub Saharan Africa and North Africa.
Also north africans where mostly ethnic europeans back then since rome expandet into northern africa bringing a lot of people there and the arab invasion and migration to north africa that created modern north africa (arabs) didn't happen until after the fall of the roman empire, not to mention modern migrations of sub saharan africans in even more recent times.
Fact is Ryan......they weren't thinking to begin with. I think the idea was to crank out a sequel to a good and well respected film, throwing unsurmountable amounts of money at it, ultimately to get the exact results they got from the trailer.
This gives them time to retool and put out another trailer that might suitably fit a sequel to a movie that should never have been made in the first place. Cheers my man !

I don't know much about the actor portraying the hero in this movie, but Denzel and Pascal are there to put butt's in the seats and to prop up this unknown actor. I remember many years ago there was a movie that had Jet Li and Jackie Chan in supporting role that was trying to prop up some random American actor that's not even a martial artist as their disciple in the film. I don't think that actor ever played a lead in anything else after the film.

Wow ... DEI hires in historical stories ? That's the reason I can't watch Vikings Valhalla ... In the show Vikings , they are all documented historical figures . So I would investigate their stories ... I was intrigued to watch Vikings Valhalla . But there is a black woman in there who is a Jarl . So based on the Vikings . One thing I have noticed since 2020 is that blacks have to be front and center in every movie now, even if it's completely historically inaccurate to cast black actors in the movie. This type of forced diversity casting completely breaks emersion, and gives the movie zero credibility....
