Just for example I was really hyped for Kong Vs Godzilla(2021) movie. And on the first trailer they put some dumb ass rap music in the trailer. It killed all the hype I had for that movie.

Apparently it's pretty common now to score trailers for any action movie with random rap / hip hop music to attract the interest of gen z. They used to do it with generic orchestral music but I guess people got sick of that. It's definitely still lazy af. It will be gone by the second trailer.
It's to sell the movie and to entice people who don't care about gladiator to see the movie. It's all a selling point. Nothing more, nothing less. You people are making a big deal out of nothing.

This music is absolutely terrible for gladiator. Also, the screaming "welcooome" guy is straight out of Mad Max, kinda weird.
Hans Zimmer's disciple is doing the score, so I'm fairly sure we won't be getting Jay-Z in the final product (hopefully).

I love Denzel Washington. I love his movies. But when I saw him in the first seconds of this trailer. I was like. NOPE. And then the rap music started. What made Gladiator (2000) worked in the first place was also because all the actors were not big at that time. Joaquin Phoenix, Russell Crowe only had L.A. Confidential (1997) Great movie. But who watched that movie back then. When Gladiator came out, it felt real. This doesn't feel real at all because of the KNOWN actors in it. Gladiator 2 should have never been made.

I think it's fine if movies have a patrairchy bad message, but you don't make a movie about napolean and then just do that as your only message. I think you could of made a similar movie without it even being about napolean, and at that point why are you even making a movie about him. 1: Make sure your overly long trailer shows as MUCH of the plot as possible. Leave them wanting less. ✓
2: Stick a completely mood-busting modern day song over the top to show you're "edgy" and down with the kids. ✓
3: Really showcase the ropey CGI that makes people wonder how the hell the original made 24 years ago still looks better. ✓

Protagonist is in a war, he loses, his girlfriend dies, he becomes a slave, he meets Denzel, and after a day of training Denzel sends him to the coliseum, the protagonist shoots an arrow at Pedro Pascal's chair, Pascal gets angry , he goes down to fight, dies and there is a revolution of the slaves and Denzel dies in that revolution and the protagonist escapes so they can make a trilogy....

The Oscar-winning Gladiator (2000) is my favorite film of all-time. So Gladiator II has massive shoes to fill. I also love how they showed the major elements (e.g. the protagonist’s love interest dying, etc.) within this 3+ min long trailer. Trailers should only “tease”, should not spoil major plot points, and shouldn’t be longer than 2 mins.
Also, glad Denzel is bringing that Alonzo “Training Day” meets Frank “American Gangster” persona… totally fits the historical accuracy and vibe of the Roman Empire… 🤦🏻♂️
Remember, folks… this is the same Ridley Scott who brought us post-Gladiator historical films like Robin Hood, Exodus: Gods and Kings, Napoleon, and other recent dumpster fires.
In my opinion, his only solid film within the last 10~ years was “The Martian”.
Here’s to hoping Gladiator is a banger of a film, despite the questionable first trailer.

Why does this need to be a sequel. As long as you turn your brain off you and you don't see turds as characters, someone will like this. Ridley Scott has gone off the deep end and is not focused on cognitive stories.

My biggest complaint is why does Hollywood have to make the Colosseum look like some Mega Football stadium. It's big but not THAT damn big! I've been to the Colosseum and walked around it, stood where gladiators have and its amazing but nowhere close to the size they portray in this trailer.

They spoiled about 80% of the movie with that trailer. I agree that the budget and spectacle are there, and it has some solid actors, but I'm just not looking forward to it.

I cant believe they didnt take down the trailer and change the music. The music choice almost universally panned.
The Romans actually did sometimes flood the arena and make the gladiators fight naval battles. When I learned about that a few months ago I thought "That's an action scene I really want to see in the Gladiator sequel." So I'm very excited that they're including it!
I went to see Gladiator with my cousin on release date over 20 years ago and I remember I had to convince him to watch it because he wanted to see something else but for the life of me i can't remember what it was. A friend of my cousin joined us and wanted to see a different movie and was so angry when we said we were watching Gladiator that he went to see his movie on his own, to be fair my cousin had originally told him they were going ro watch that other movie but I convinced my cousin to watch Gladiator instead. Years later I had to convince him to watch Apocalypto I don't know why he does not trust my taste in movies but he has never once told me I took him to a bad movie.
I don't know why I just shared all this, I guess it's one of those memory lane things...

This trailer would have been so much better and powerful if they would have just used the original music from the first Gladiator. That would definitely bring people who grew up from the first one in, including myself. Gladiator was a masterpiece.

General Marcus Acacius is going to be a wild card (since he never actually existed)

The arena is just a setting for Maximus, Commodus, and more interesting characters. Is it going to be more centre stage?
A perfect movie that never needed a sequel. Let’s see how this one does, it doesn’t look terrible but not a day one watch for me
