That was a misrepresentation of this video. This road does not go through an area with Amish farms. While it is true that some farms will be affected, the road is needed. It is a gap of several miles in a highway with heavy truck traffic. There have been a lot of fatal accidents there. Unfortunately, it is impossible to build a road without using land and in farm country, some of that land is farmland.
That's also why they hate self-employed people like me. They can't control us. They couldn't make me take those poison shots to explode my heart. They can't get me fired from my job. They can't make me dependent on them.

I will support 100% a constitutional amendment to put a stop to eminent domain permanently. If the government wants someone's land they need to pay what the owner wants for it not what they want to give you for it. And if a landowner doesn't want to sell then their right to their own land should be protected by constitutional amendment.
When I studied the law to become a REALTOR, Eminent Domain could ONLY be used to take property if there was NO OTHER LAND available to be used. Our founders protected the People, lately Congress is bending over for the Corporations.
You may want to take a look at Connecticut with the Kelo vs New London where the state managed to take property in Fort Trumbull CT for Pfizer who wanted to build a large facility and the state wanted to have private businesses added there. An entire neighborhood was taken for private development...... it can be abused.

Here in Milford Delaware, the town tried to take a widow's small farmett by eminent domain. Her brother's land sold for top dollar - she was offered waaay less And she told them she didnt Want to sell! They wanted to make a bicycle path! Her place was 5 miles outside of city limits! People got wind of it, and came out in force against it! A billboard was put up with town concil faces on it saying " These thieves want to steal a widow's land!" It worked! They backed down. 👏👏👏

Back in the 50's, the Pennsylvania school board came around wanting to buy "a couple of acres" to build a school. My granddad, agreed to sell them a couple acres ... in his mind "a couple" was defined as 2, "a few" was defined as 3 or 4. They took 53 acres. Left him with only 17 acres. They paid him what THEY thought was fair. It was NOT. Not only did they break his heart, they took his livelihood away. He had been a farmer all his life. He had to go get a job a the rubber plant to make ends meet. I think imminent domain should be illegal, its Grand Theft. You or I wouldn't get away with it, they shouldn't either.

You've raised so many good points. I've watched with some interest the imminent domain of large amounts of farmland in NE, IA, MN, SD, and ND for this carbon reclamation pipeline to recover carbon from ethanol plants, and other factories. In my humble opinion, we are losing our freaking heads over reducing carbon! More and more evidence is making its way to the light of day showing what a huge farce this is, being used by all levels of government to control, tax, and mandate things that otherwise wouldn't be allowed without this "environmental crisis!"

I told my husband sometime ago I believe one of the reasons for open borders and mass migration is that they have decided to make some regions, states or even countries are being designated as residential and farming would be relegated to specific regions or countries. I've read some of the reports for the 2030 - 2050 agendas that stated there would be designated tourist spots appeared to mean there would be a lot of wilderness or nature areas that will be off-limits to people. PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT is a bane on our existance. Every time a politician or city worker is arrested for corruption or bribery it involves property development. They have shut down a lot of farms in the netherlands, where they have a housing crisis because of migration. The govt already had plans drawn up for development of the farm properties they seized. It's very telling. Expect to see heavy densification of cities, smaller dwellings, fewer houses. 😢😢😢

If it was not possible to use Eminent Domain we would not have highways, or power plants, or schools...... Dealing with each individual owner would stop that. If there was one land owner who said NO an entire project could be stopped cold. What if that had happened when land was needed for the Manhattan project?? What happened was back a few years or a decade ago some land was taken form an owner in Connecticut under the pretext of building a school there. Once the land was seized the school was not built and the land was sold for a commercial enterprise. The justification was that the land would now bring in more tax revenue. This was a very very bad thing to get started and should have put some politicians in jail for a very long time.
I live in Lancaster County and am member of an organization called Respect Farmland, A Watchdog Group for Lancaster County. We are 4 out of 5 with regard to stopping development of farmland. These things can be stopped if the people of that county want to come together, organize and stop it. In the last month a developer ender their appeal and will no longer attempt to bulldoze under 74 acres of prime farmland in the heart of an Amish community.
Speaking as someone still in the edges of a metropolitan area and wanting to get out into the actual countryside: our first duty as newcomers to a small town is to not destroy the very thing we are looking to get to. We get all kinds of ideas of how we can “fix” stuff by just adding one or two little things and then it snowballs and in the process we end up ruining the lives of the people who built and maintained these small communities. And then eventually we end up getting the same garbage we were trying to escape. I get why newcomers are often not welcome in small communities. The best thing we can do when entering a place like that is shut the hell up and follow the lead of the people who were already there, even if it is run down where you're going. They have made it work there somehow and the arrogance of thinking you can just waltz in and “fix” it how you want it is beyond me. That said, the being an outsider kinda sucks and I’ve been to some places where they will shut you out of everything if you aren’t part of the old guard. It’s understandable, since in the cases you’re describing here, you’re talking about what are basically foreign invaders coming in and ripping your community apart on nothing more than a whim. I dunno. I guess I would just say that if you’re trying to escape the cities for whatever reason, maybe at least try not to ruin where you’re going to?

Our Ontario Canada premier is doing the same thing. Taking farm land for a new highway and work with his developer buddies, who are also his political contributors. Doug Ford is a real corrupt politician who had manybof these developers pay a fee to attend his daughters engagement and wedding festivities. These same developers where granted NZOs giving them bypass abilities to avoid environmental and other studies. They have taken protected lands, farmland, wetlands to build high priced housing not affordable housing with the political power of Doug Ford.
The farmers from the Netherlands did even better. They established a new political party, selected members to stand against the corrupt local officials, across the country, then beat them in the elections, taking away their power to pass the new local regulations! @@kanenomoja it is because of high traffic volume for football stadium games that old roads are regularly overloaded and they need to take land to improve highways to bypass tiny towns nearby. We still have farms 20 to 30 minutes away so I can get local fresh veggies at farmstands, but with better roads that is commute distance, and already some farms have planted housing developments.
As I have witnessed here in Eastern Pa. once that bypass/highway is improved for safety reasons, (or so they say,) so goes the destruction of farmland around it in the form of mega warehouses and single family homes and apartment units. It's uncontrolled destruction of farmland. 😔

Many years ago the Port Authority used the Imminent Domain to steal my home, a solid built house of about 80 , or more, years. That house was built solid and survived hurricanes and other disasters, and it sat on roughly 2 acres, which had been homesteaded, legally. To make a long story short, they came in, gave us a lame offer, and took everything. There wasn't a thing we could do about it either. It's sad when you think you live in the "Land of Freedom", but, it's starting to resemble the old USSR.

I live in PA 30 min away from Lancaster and a developer is craming 6 houses next to me on 2 acres causing water diversion and this builder gets away with so many code and OSHA violations. Also, if a farmer or rancher raises livestock for a living, he should be paid for all the generations of livestock his animals would have produced in his lifetime because it’s all future lost income. I used to be in the federal government and while I wasn’t personally involved my office was. We took a small plot of land once. You can sue. Force the government to prove their position in court. You can also sue to challenge the price the government is saying is “fair compensation”. Just these types of suits can delay projects for years.

My dad fought it and they had to come up with a better plan, so instead of taking 20 acres they only took 7. Every acre counts in farming and it's not like you can just replace the land they take or the annual income produced by that land. Many times they have a plan drawn up and they don't even consider if they could design it differently unless they're forced to. It's even worse for the organic farmers. They can't just go buy another organic farm and it takes years for your land to qualify as an organic farm and it was an expensive process. They took out a very successful one in my state and even though they had to alter their original plan and up their compensation it still wasn't enough to salvage the business they had prior.

Happened down here in Maryland. Government took over an entire farm for pennies to build a massive high school despite having massive abandoned shopping lots they could have built on. And the killer is that they can't even use all of the land as it's a back up for emergency landing for the airport. So massive empty fields. This is indeed crazy. We found out a few years ago, when we wanted to put in a shed on our property, buildings had to be 80 feet away from the road in our township. That's insane. Between the road and the "utility" easements, we lost a huge chunk of our already small property that was "usable" for putting up a building. I don't understand why they NEED that big of an easement, especially on a dead end back country road. The amount of over reach onto PRIVATE land is insane!

How about they just need to make all farmland exempt from eminent domain. If we got that done, then after people got sick of their fancy houses & their golf courses being taken for a new highway maybe we could end it entirely. I will support 100% a constitutional amendment to put a stop to eminent domain permanently. If the government wants someone's land they need to pay what the owner wants for it not what they want to give you for it. And if a landowner doesn't want to sell then their right to their own land should be protected by constitutional amendment.

When I studied the law to become a REALTOR, Eminent Domain could ONLY be used to take property if there was NO OTHER LAND available to be used. Our founders protected the People, lately Congress is bending over for the Corporations.
You may want to take a look at Connecticut with the Kelo vs New London where the state managed to take property in Fort Trumbull CT for Pfizer who wanted to build a large facility and the state wanted to have private businesses added there. An entire neighborhood was taken for private development...... it can be abused.

Here in Milford Delaware, the town tried to take a widow's small farmett by eminent domain. Her brother's land sold for top dollar - she was offered waaay less And she told them she didnt Want to sell! They wanted to make a bicycle path! Her place was 5 miles outside of city limits! People got wind of it, and came out in force against it! A billboard was put up with town concil faces on it saying " These thieves want to steal a widow's land!" It worked! They backed down. 👏👏👏

Back in the 50's, the Pennsylvania school board came around wanting to buy "a couple of acres" to build a school. My granddad, agreed to sell them a couple acres ... in his mind "a couple" was defined as 2, "a few" was defined as 3 or 4. They took 53 acres. Left him with only 17 acres. They paid him what THEY thought was fair. It was NOT. Not only did they break his heart, they took his livelihood away. He had been a farmer all his life. He had to go get a job a the rubber plant to make ends meet. I think imminent domain should be illegal, its Grand Theft. You or I wouldn't get away with it, they shouldn't either.

I've watched with some interest the imminent domain of large amounts of farmland in NE, IA, MN, SD, and ND for this carbon reclamation pipeline to recover carbon from ethanol plants, and other factories. In my humble opinion, we are losing our freaking heads over reducing carbon!

I told my husband sometime ago I believe one of the reasons for open borders and mass migration is that they have decided to make some regions, states or even countries are being designated as residential and farming would be relegated to specific regions or countries. I've read some of the reports for the 2030 - 2050 agendas that stated there would be designated tourist spots appeared to mean there would be a lot of wilderness or nature areas that will be off-limits to people. PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT is a bane on our existance. Every time a politician or city worker is arrested for corruption or bribery it involves property development. They have shut down a lot of farms in the netherlands, where they have a housing crisis because of migration. The govt already had plans drawn up for development of the farm properties they seized. It's very telling. Expect to see heavy densification of cities, smaller dwellings, fewer houses. 😢😢😢

What happened was back a few years or a decade ago some land was taken form an owner in Connecticut under the pretext of building a school there. Once the land was seized the school was not built and the land was sold for a commercial enterprise. The justification was that the land would now bring in more tax revenue.
This was a very very bad thing to get started and should have put some politicians in jail for a very long time.

I live in Lancaster County and am member of an organization called Respect Farmland, A Watchdog Group for Lancaster County. We are 4 out of 5 with regard to stopping development of farmland. These things can be stopped if the people of that county want to come together, organize and stop it. In the last month a developer ender their appeal and will no longer attempt to bulldoze under 74 acres of prime farmland in the heart of an Amish community.

Speaking as someone still in the edges of a metropolitan area and wanting to get out into the actual countryside: our first duty as newcomers to a small town is to not destroy the very thing we are looking to get to. We get all kinds of ideas of how we can “fix” stuff by just adding one or two little things and then it snowballs and in the process we end up ruining the lives of the people who built and maintained these small communities. And then eventually we end up getting the same garbage we were trying to escape.
I get why newcomers are often not welcome in small communities. The best thing we can do when entering a place like that is shut the hell up and follow the lead of the people who were already there, even if it is run down where you're going. They have made it work there somehow and the arrogance of thinking you can just waltz in and “fix” it how you want it is beyond me.
That said, the being an outsider kinda sucks and I’ve been to some places where they will shut you out of everything if you aren’t part of the old guard. It’s understandable, since in the cases you’re describing here, you’re talking about what are basically foreign invaders coming in and ripping your community apart on nothing more than a whim.
I dunno. I guess I would just say that if you’re trying to escape the cities for whatever reason, maybe at least try not to ruin where you’re going to?

@@kanenomoja it is because of high traffic volume for football stadium games that old roads are regularly overloaded and they need to take land to improve highways to bypass tiny towns nearby. We still have farms 20 to 30 minutes away so I can get local fresh veggies at farmstands, but with better roads that is commute distance, and already some farms have planted housing developments.
As I have witnessed here in Eastern Pa. once that bypass/highway is improved for safety reasons, (or so they say,) so goes the destruction of farmland around it in the form of mega warehouses and single family homes and apartment units. It's uncontrolled destruction of farmland. 😔

Many years ago the Port Authority used the Imminent Domain to steal my home, a solid built house of about 80 , or more, years. That house was built solid and survived hurricanes and other disasters, and it sat on roughly 2 acres, which had been homesteaded, legally. To make a long story short, they came in, gave us a lame offer, and took everything. There wasn't a thing we could do about it either. It's sad when you think you live in the "Land of Freedom", but, it's starting to resemble the old USSR.

Also, if a farmer or rancher raises livestock for a living, he should be paid for all the generations of livestock his animals would have produced in his lifetime because it’s all future lost income. And if it’s an older farmer who has known nothing but farming his whole life, he needs to be heavily reimbursed for the life-style transition he will be forced to make.

I used to be in the federal government and while I wasn’t personally involved my office was. We took a small plot of land once.
You can sue. Force the government to prove their position in court. You can also sue to challenge the price the government is saying is “fair compensation”. Just these types of suits can delay projects for years.

All farmers/ landowners need to keep taking it to court. I know it’s expensive but with the right people helping we should be able to raise a lot through go fund me and similar groups. I would put my money in.
In Harrison, NJ they were giving a guy pennies on the dollar, for his business property. He fought them in court and was successful. He got millions. 😃
Comments below say all the things I've been thinking for years. Urbanites don't seem to realize without agricultural land around them, they would not exist in the first place! Every town, every city has grown out of a farming or ranching commnuity.

My dad fought it and they had to come up with a better plan, so instead of taking 20 acres they only took 7. Every acre counts in farming and it's not like you can just replace the land they take or the annual income produced by that land. Many times they have a plan drawn up and they don't even consider if they could design it differently unless they're forced to. It's even worse for the organic farmers. They can't just go buy another organic farm and it takes years for your land to qualify as an organic farm and it was an expensive process. They took out a very successful one in my state and even though they had to alter their original plan and up their compensation it still wasn't enough to salvage the business they had prior.
And I’m sure that was all intentional. The farmers are under attack and I’ve been saying this for years! Obama started with legislation that was going to be detrimental to future farmers. It’s insane what they’re doing but it’s all part of agenda 2030

Happened down here in Maryland. Government took over an entire farm for pennies to build a massive high school despite having massive abandoned shopping lots they could have built on. And the killer is that they can't even use all of the land as it's a back up for emergency landing for the airport. So massive empty fields. Destroyed the farmers' homes and livelihoods, as well as the only farm left in that part of the county.
As a Native American all I can say is "good luck with keeping your land from the government".

It's simple if you control the food and water you control everything that's why they're trying to do this and we as a collective people need to fight back.
This is indeed crazy. We found out a few years ago, when we wanted to put in a shed on our property, buildings had to be 80 feet away from the road in our township. That's insane. Between the road and the "utility" easements, we lost a huge chunk of our already small property that was "usable" for putting up a building. I don't understand why they NEED that big of an easement, especially on a dead end back country road.

I knew a family that had a old family farm in Lancaster County PA. The gov. Wanted to put a highway through it. They offered Harvy the market value for it, but the farm had been in the family for 3 Gen. Harvy had a family and this was his income . Working farm... Harvy fought it, ended up broke and lost his family farm.

How about they just need to make all farmland exempt from eminent domain. If we got that done, then after people got sick of their fancy houses & their golf courses being taken for a new highway maybe we could end it entirely. If we don't have a law that allows farmers to annex land in subdivisions to product food, then there simply shouldn't be a law that forces people to except urban sprawl.

Took a law course in college MANY years ago. That is where I learned that according to them, NO ONE OWNS land. We are paying for the right to ENJOY the USE of the land!! I was incensed...

Best advise is people that live there should neutralize "Maritime Law" which is what all the U.S. Court system is based on. Common Law is Law of the Land, not what is currently in force.
