Unions CAVED To Big Pharma During The Pandemic!

- Опубліковано 11 тра 2024
- Unions are supposed to protect their workers from the depredations of unfettered capitalism, yet when the pandemic struck and government and employer-driven vaccine mandates were handed down, unions folded, leading to the firings of thousands of workers. And even today no one takes unions to task for neglecting this basic justification for their existence.
Jimmy and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger talk to economics professor Richard Wolff about the problems with unions and whether there’s hope for unions’ future.

I never trusted unions and never joined one... like the Vaxx, was pressurised by unions to join.... not stop bullying..
Workers who refused the vaccine were standing up for themselves, Richard Wolf did nothing, the people that didn't take the vaccine was against it from day 1, by the time Biden tried to mandate it, we were already saying, fire me then, while everyone else was calling us every name in the book.
My union happily sold me out. They belong in jail just like the rest who pushed this on us.
Agreed
Mine too. Will never ever support unions again
What they really wanted, Holding people down kicking and Screaming pulling pants down to vax that ASS.
Was Wolff saying that the Unions WANT to do the right thing by their workers, but have been somehow prevented from doing so because they....[checks notes].....need even more money and power? Did I understand him right?
Anyone claiming to protect you these days is lying..
I lost my job and my union wasn't interested. They supported the government's response. FTUs.
Aussie unions were a f**ken disgrace. Sell out pieces of sh*t.
I don’t think they caved. I think they were working hand in glove with one another.
Unions got paid. Big pharma got paid. Workers stayed home.
They all won big, we all lost bigger.
💯 nurses and teachers unions are some of the most disgusting Democrat shills there are. They betray the people who pay them, the public, as well as the people they pretend to serve and care about.
That is the absolute truth.
Perfectly said
I don't think so. Different in Sweden, where I live. Here you typically worked every other week. One half at home while the other half worked. It was smooth. Employers didn't have to lay anyone off while everybody got full salary.
There were lots of layoffs in the US. How do unions benefit from that?
They only won temporarily. Their greed broke the system. Pharma greased all corporate, political and tech wheels but now the wheels are falling off. They hurt the hands that feed them. Ours, if we are not working and making enough to buy the things that they have us making then they are not making money.
Sorry, his reasoning is not right about unions. The leadership of the unions have not been working for the workers for a very long time.
Thank You!!! Union leaders are like our "representatives politicians" only for themselves!
They never did, they just needed to appear to do so in order to get all the useful idiots to support them.
They work for nurses.🎉
Think of them as the camp guards. They serve a purpose for the elites in power. It’s about class, not politics race or gender.
72,000 nurses got canned in one state....
"Get the vaccine or don't work." Was from our IBEW606 Union here in Orlando, FL. Glad that I stood up to both my union and employer.
Actual Criminals
Are you still in the union? LOL
And my father was an organizer for the UE, the RADICAL union which could not compete with the corporate union.
IBEW didn’t do anything for any members in North America against the mandates. No matter the local or trade.
Did you ask for your union fees back at least?
Unions should be sued by their workers. They did nothing to protect the workers. Sham
The purpose of the unions is to support the party.
You can sue your union for failing to represent but you’d need lots of money as you have to hire your own lawyers.
This was also political from the beginning. If you were against this, you were an anti-science flat earther. i.e., a republican. They had to signal virtue, hard, by going the opposite way.
Yeah, sure.
Correct
Hate to tell ya, but unions are not for the employees, they are for the unions, they have always been.
If you can negotiate better, prove it.
Union workers are FOR each other. Union Bosses are for democrat oligarchs
I work for a hospital in California, stationary engineer, Local 39. I put in a religion exemption form with the hospital I working at, it was not excepted and I was fired from my job. Local 39 filed a grievance for me, but two years to the day I was fired I received a letter from Local 39 saying they are no longer going to represent me. Not only the hospital screwed me over but Local 39 did too.
peace be with you..
The business agent for local 158 told me there is nothing they could do and members didn't want me around. My last day I asked labor relations write everything down with a fellow steward present, I shook everyone's hand and walked out. My job is still vacant with a contractor from the steamfitters union doing it now. Had a job offer in a week and been there ever since. Shake the dust off your shoes and move on.
Yet think of all the money they took from each paycheck. It’s mafia by another name!
They owe u a refund for the dues u paid
@@yoashka1 the job is still vacant so in effect I de-funded them. Seems popular nowadays
I quit my union pipe welding job because the unions threw us under the bus during covid.
They did less than nothing to help the workers they are being paid to represent.
That’s a damn good job to throw in, but well done for standing your ground. Brother
Were you surprised?
They are telling us population is too high and we Trust them to keep us alive?
Jobs available in Australia if you are still looking
@@redherring9497 what are the women like Australia? I can't get a GF here to save my life. If I have to travel to the other side of the planet for a job and a wife, I'll do it.
My union kicked me to the curb during covid. I lost my job of nearly 25 years for 15 months because the union backed by roughly 90% of the membership wanted us gone for refusing to get jabbed. I'll never forgive or forget this, I was effectively fined over $150,000 for my stance.
It's awesome living in a country (Canada) where criminals have all the rights and citizens who work get treated worse than criminals especially if they think for themselves.
My union does whatever the Democrat party tells them to.
UNIONS WHAT A JOKE.
The Union "teachers" are the biggest jokes.
I don’t like unions. They don’t represent the worker.
There was a time. Now they represent themselves
Unions are in bed with the company and government. That's where the money is. They sold out long ago.
@@paulmryglod4802 That’s how the cycle of institutions goes
They represent the lazy and worst workers.
Ironic, isn't it?
Here in Canada where Unions are stronger, we saw them completely cave. They were bought off with money. My Union of Health Care in British Columbia, was no different. There were areas of hospitals and care homes that were contracted out, so the Province's Gov't said, "Hey we will give you (the union) all these contracted out workers and all the union dues that come with them......but they all have to take the jab." And that was it. I refused to be coerced and lost a great paying job. They are still requiring the jab here, with no end in sight.
Such a dark time. They are criminals.
You are exactly correct, unions are working hand in hand with the government. I’m also one of those terminated workers with the BC govt health care union. Have had a grievance in for 2 1/2 years and all the union does is dick around. I truly hope one day they all go down hard and fast
The quality of health care in BC has declined so rapidly. So many good nurses were forced to leave.
As someone who has worked for unions, I am not as optimistic about them as Dr. Wolff. It's time for workers' co-ops. Stop f-ing around. We will never fix this system within this system.
I had a job for a short time with AFSCME. The woman who had held the position trained me and paid me the same money she was getting. I spent the first week straightening out the books she had totally effed up, then AFSCME told me I had to take less pay. Hahahaha, I said, and quit.
Relying on someone else to make decisions and represent your wishes doesn't seem to work too well. Who would have thought nefarious people would use that model and hide behind it's legality/authority?
Why would anyone believe that the Unions are not in bed with the corporations and the uniparty?
My Wife lost her job over it and her Union didn’t give a crap. Told her to get the jab. We said fuck you 💪
Unions are a racket. Change my mind.
They're not supposed to be, but American unions have made themselves very comfy under corporate capitalism. Real unions are not rackets, are not run by suits who play golf with corporate CEOs, and not only organize their members but educate them about the economic system they live under. Here's a quote from Joe Bageant to you: Everything in this goddamn country is a racket. But Americans have been bought off with fancy refrigerators and ATVs and electronic junk.
Well my union took my money told me to vote for Biden and yelled at me for asking for representation when they were in a meeting to get more shops. I was going to lose my job due to the vax mandate and they were focused on getting more shops so that...proves your point.
Your mind doesn't matter. What you think an employee should be to a company it works for is important.
Too many people, no matter how often they step in shit, refuse to watch where they're walking.
Unions stop caring and became a business. I dare you to look at your collective agreement and see how much titles and positions they created, which inflated the cost to run a union. It's more like a job creator on the backs of hard workers.
unions got the mafia disease.
It's your job to get the union to run the way that's beneficial for you.
Cornel West to Fauci on his youtube podcast: "...you have been very distinctive as a scientist because you're so deeply grounded in humanity and humanitarian sensibility...you know it's just so wonderful to see somebody who is such a unique combination of the sharpness of a scientific mind and the goldenness of a decent heart."
Dang, West really did deep throat the boot didn't he? He's definitely going to get to work in the house. 😓😒
Meanwhile, Fauci was testing drugs on orphans and cutting the throats of puppies. But Cornel bullshits Jimmy because West loves Jim Crow Joe so much.
Wow! Just shows that Cornel West is not as smart and as informed as he should be. Even I, who sit in Norway, have noticed that there were large demonstrations against Fauci during the AIDS period many decades ago.
The banners read: Fauci, you are killing us.
Also shows that professors are not always so smart, Noam Chomsky wanted to lock up the unvaccinated.
Verbal fellatio
Our beloved Brother West got another one wrong!
My union rep told me if I didn't vote for Biden i was voting against my paycheck.
Did your rep do stand up comedy on the weekends?
Sounds like a commie union
FJB
Mine asked me to vote for Jerry Nadler. That was the end of my participation with the union.
I worked for the nurses union in California and never let them tell me who to vote for. They always supported every democrat politician and their failed policies. The u ions even backed prop 47 that increased the threshold to steal.
Unions are run by activists, not workers, I preferred the mob.
In NYC the italian/irish mafia controls the unions.
American unions are mafias.
The mob would have fought for us, the unions acted like enforcers for the mandates.
At least the mob is honest with you instead of the "We're from the government and we're here to HELP!" People seem to now understand the silent part - HELP OURSELVES TO YOUR STUFF!
YES. Unions failed us during COVID. I was working at a warehouse for Kroger they eventually fired me wrongfully in retaliation but the Teamsters Union although they wrote a letter they did not go to court or present a case on my behalf. I have had to represent myself since 2022 and am now in the higher courts fighting these large corporations by myself.
"It’s easy to criticize me, but they’re really criticizing science because I represent science."
- Dr. Anthony Fauci
Faucci's lungs must be fried from breathing the air in hell!
Fauci represents murder
"you don't need a formal conspiracy when like interests converge" - George Carlin
The teachers union literally created a lot of the issues from the pandemic. Such nonsense.
The IAFF sold firefighters down the river nationwide.
The IAFF is in bed deep with the DemonRats.
I worked in a pipe mill that almost exclusively made pipe for oil and gas drilling in 2020-2021. Our union backed Biden, and the VP of the company said in front of all of us that he couldn't vote for Trump, even if it meant that the mill closing down. Well Bidens first day in office he shut down the keystone pipeline and 3 months later, almost everyone lost their jobs. They kept a skeleton crew of maintenance workers. The sorry part was guys would still kiss the vp's ass even though he said he didn't give a damn about their jobs. I got called back to work about 8 months later and told them no thanks. It's crazy to find out how many guys actually went back to work for them.
Americans are selfish people. All the big talk only happens when it doesn't affect them and their "families". That's how they get ya. You're under the spell of a mob. Everybody's pro-freedom, pro-choice, anti-corruption, anti-bad-guy, but when it hits them personally they fold.
Unions are for themselves not the people...I was an actor in the 90's in Canada and never had more problems dealing with anyone than with 'OUR' Union.
Never stood up for me and let Companies spell my name wrong in the credits and break contracts because they didn't want to 'Burn Bridges' and are constantly holding back money from me.
They were a major contributing factor on me getting fed up with the corruption in the Industry and leaving...That and GOD asked me to go for a walk so we could talk.
Indeed..... union officials pay themselves well on the backs of the workers..... never trusted or jpined a union....
@@orionxtc1119 As an actor for film & TV you are pretty much forced to...especially before there was any kind of 'INDY' market.
IA, NABET and ACTRA are all corrupt monopolies.
The American Postal Workers Union did fight the mandates
I don't remember exactly how it went but their was a pattern of the biggest unions either caving or allowing firing/retiring then hiring. Either are a lost. In most cases loss of skilled workers is a huge problem right now. Nurses who don't know what's healthy (pharma trained). Planes in disrepair and for a long time flight crews that couldn't get you to your connection or keep up with your luggage.
Yeah, all government workers were exempted.
@@slappy8941 Including the military?
@@bobby-ov9qn No they were Dishonorably Discharged, The Military reversed its decision and allowed those discharged to re-enter the Military in late 2023. Most opted NOT to return and I don't blame them after being ostracized and dismissed.
They were exempted. Nothing to fight. Duhhhh.
If your leaders see nothing wrong with supporting genocide in Gaza, what makes you think they will treat you differently ?
Well we’re talking about how unions are screwing over workers, what’s with the same copy paste comment?
Dont care.
@@SkylarTrahanI think you might be right about the copy and paste aspect, but curious how you fail to see the relevance.. ?
@@SkylarTrahan if your government which tells the Unions what to do is supporting a genocide in Gaza what do you think they will tell the Unions to do to you if you get out of Line? They told the Unions to fire your ass if you dont take the jab.
No one cares about Israel and Gaza outside of college kids. You don’t vote for the people that are supporting that so scream and cry all you want about it the rest of us adults have issues here at home that need to be addressed.
Because unions work for government. They always works. Mostly.
I’ve been In a retail union. The national Association of letter carriers, the American postal workers union, and I’ve even been in the Auto makers union. Then teamsters twice. Every one sold out the next generation
I never joined a union...... never trusted them
Teamsters did NOTHING! I lost a 25 year career. Unions now are Just an extension of the company 😡
Think about the law schools. These kids had mandatory bio-weapon injection so they couldn't go to class and not one of their professors gave them an assignment regarding the constitutionality of all of this... I have zero respect for these law schools
Truth-tellers are silenced, while the liars have their voices amplified. A crime against humanity.
I had to leave United Airlines. The union did nothing.
At least the postal union kind of did. Either way, i wasnt taking that bullshit shot.
Oh look - another government organization that has congress by the balls. VA has readily given the middle finger to congress openly. Glad u guys were safe, but another cog in their machine. Just owe your current job existing to veterans past AND current suffering, but hey, breads buttered, what do I care if the VA secretly experiments on them - not my department - few bad apples - etc, right?
Unions did this too themselves by basically acting like corporations.
Unions and management got married years ago and gave birth to a huge middle finger made of bugs. This will be our dinner soon.
Canadian here. Wife works as an MLT in the regional hospital here. Public employee with a Union.
Contract ran out in 2019 and wasn't negotiated till well into covid lockdowns. They got 1%. Less than inflation.
They literally got a pay CUT!
Unions are done
As a carpenter I would never join the union. They have become to political and bureaucratic for their worth.
Unions were never the answer anyway... It is actual protections in law. But the legislatures only care about taking our rights, not protecting.
Here's the thing, no one can take a right from you. However, a privilege can be taken at any time. We do not have rights.
@@TheCarnivoreSoprano They can and have been taken. You need others to protect your rights because it is an idea. An idea is a culture and must be protected to exist. We have been poisoned and made docile. We have been distracted and devided. They are systemically taking out rights by way of deffinition and excuse of national security and our kids will forget we had them to begin with because many have ignored it.
No, no, no. The unions didn't learn any lessons because they have sold out.
Unions have a special interest in maintaining animosity between employees and employers
Local 6 Hotel Workers FAILED BIG TIME!
C'MON everyone knows the unions don't work for the employees.
My teachers union totally caved on the mandate issue… I went on unpaid leave for over a month and they were in cahoots with the government to silence dissent.
Only the workers of England union stuck up for their members here in the UK
They promised to back their members all the way to the high court if needed but they were the only one who did
Very few labor unions are in business to help the dues paying worker. They’re as much on the grift as the politicians they’re connected to.
Stay strong...Support the working class.
Nice piece of sarcasm
Lost a lot of respect for our health services teachers etc over the last few yrs
Unions here in TX are useless! The union members don’t have PTO, cheap insurance or even equal pay to their non union counterparts! And it costs those union members $200 a month to be part of it! It’s nuts!
I'm self employed so therefore my union is the best in America
Air Traffic Controller’s UNION stood up. NATCA When the flights get grounded, they always cave to Air Traffic Controllers.. There are less than 10,000 though.
The purpose of the unions is to support the uniparty. Everything else is just cover.
«Labor trumps capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor." - Abraham Lincoln ($5). The time will come when the local working class will understand its true power and importance in the mechanism of business! But they will need the protection of local and honest patriot senators so that local production does not move to a foreign country under the protection of bloodthirsty TNCs.
Our union wanted us to vote for bernie. How sick is that.
Which Bernie? Killary endorser Bernie, or pre-black-eye Bernie?
All Unions in Australia also went very quiet during the pandemic.
Yeah i almost lost my job. My union did jack shht to protect me. And my sister who is from new york with a city job was forced to take the vax or lose her job AND 16 years worth of accumated benefits. She took it. Had a mental break down and hasnt been the same since. I hate both the government, unions or any group that has the authority to force their will on others. Unions and Coop problems start when you want to do things differently from the collective and they can be overwhelmingly cruel. The line betwen opressed and opressor is very thin. Its why i love what our constitution bring to the table. It protects the individual from government but also the mob.
My union not protecting my rights was 10x more emotionally difficult, demoralizing and traumatic than my employer that was demanding I put poison in me to keep my job. Union outright refused to accept my stance, said they legally were required to defend me if I formally filed a grievance but only after I was disciplined for non compliance, and that they supported the company's choice to mandate it (how would someone get fair representation from their union if the union has already taken the stance of the employer??). If I was in a career where I could easily find work where it t didn't mandate the jab I could have exercised my rights that way but in my field all the work is with major employers that roll over for big brother. So I took my risk with the poison rather than the certain harm to my ability to provide for my family.
My Union didn't support me at all. Fire Department union is a joke
Unions # one priority is there union dues. They take your money and spend it on whatever political issue they want, regardless of how the members feel.
Unions are great at first, BUT then the top of the union gets corrupt and in order to allow the top to stay in power the top works with the Corp and the govt to just keep the lower class happy with ever growing paychecks that negatively effect the customer
Corporations want to pay less, not more to workers. Get a pay cut if you think it's morally correct. Higher paid workers are customers.
My union didn't do shit to protect those of us who didn't want it. They even defended the company's supposed right to force us to report private medical information to management
At no point in history have the people forcing others into compliance been the good guys..
It was the same here in Australia. The unions did nothing to support the workers.
The construction union boss said he would support his members but did a complete U turn a week later.leading to a huge number of union members and others laying siege to the union office building and leading to a lot of violence.
The nurses union did nothing. They could have done something. Medical staff in the UK stood up to the government trying to mandate vaccines and the government had to back down. Aussie unions could have done the same and they had plenty of time to prepare as vaccines didn't get here until 6 months after they had been rolled out in the UK.
Good point. Let's reflect - NURSES union (as well as the NURSES) did nothing. Here in US - we had our doctors and nurses filming fake tictok grief videos or big dance numbers. OMG - is that what the medical community is going to be remembered for? I just typed that off the cuff, but had to pause and reflect that might be their legacy.
The unions became what they fought against. I worked for a large transit agency and could tell you stories…..
The best union has always been an unofficial agreement between the employees, like a group chat or a third space where they can commune.
Never lay down
This guy is as naive as one could possibly be. I'm a CWA member and the national leadership SOLD EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OUT on the mystery injection issue. The mantra on the picket lines went from "Fight Corporate Greed!" to "Take the Big Pharma Corporation shot or you're fired" , "we can't win" blah blah blah, tucked in their tails and ran away when confronted. This is what happened and will CONTINUE to happen unless a "bottom up" change occurs: The collective Union Leadership is wrapped up Lock, Stock and Barrel by the D-party and they all made their deals up top and i found out the hard way THAT is who they work for when it actually counts. Whatever growth in membership the professor is referring to will be handed over to politicians, just like how Bernie moved to hand over his supporters to Killary in 2016. It's all a corrupt, top-down trick. If a Republican tried to mess with the leadership's pie, they would call for so many rallies and other forms of resistance it would make your head spin. But that didn't happen. Instead we (the dues-paying members) got complete silence, ignored and intimidated to fall in line with the clown show. They would wish everyone forget their betrayal but I couldn't if I wanted to.
The APWU stood up and won! That was my Union before I retired. I was a shop steward for 7 years, and proud of it.
Everybody caved: unions, schools, churches, individuals. Everybody stayed home; everybody took the jab; everybody meekly complied. When they had the chance to fight, they didn't. Pondering this painfully obvious fact should scare the hell out of us.
Not me. When my boss said he wanted to see proof of vaccination next week, I said "I'm not getting vaccinated" in front of everybody at the company. I had a job that no one else was going to come in and do at the drop of a hat. I was not replaceable (in the short term). When you have a job that is real and you do it right (sorry white collars) YOU have all the power. But that's not why I did it. I did it because it's wrong for them to dictate personal matters. They didn't fire me of course, but I quit a year later after I got my ducks in a row. I don't want to work for anybody that even THINKS FOR A MOMENT that that is something you can do. I did my job professionally and kept a good demeanor at work for my remaining year. Then I didn't tell them why I was leaving. When people realize their own power, you don't have to go around justifying yourself. If everybody did this, all the sociopaths and psychopaths would soon be completely isolated, exiled, with nobody looking at or talking to them. How long do you think their sick behavior is going to last under those conditions?
The sad part is, americans want what the sociopaths and psychopaths have, have no spine, and will sacrifice nothing - that part you are right about jonathan.
By the way, I'm NOT the kind of person that wants to draw attention to myself or shows a lot of grit in groups of people. But this was a bridge too far, and I had already made up my mind I would not rollover. You can imagine the effect that had on everybody at work when the guy that everybody gets along with and likes, but mostly sticks to himself, suddenly speaks up in front of everybody and says "NO".
NY State nurses tried but the State threatened them.
Same thing happening in the UK, the two main parties in both countries have had it too good for too long, just look at the trash being allowed to parade around with their foreign flags demanding everything for free, bloody sickening..
My union in Canada was useless and wouldn't stand up for anyone!
I am a Union member of the IBEW for 37 years in Canada. It has been in decline as the gentleman said for a long time and I haven't been to a union meeting in years. When you go on the job the fear is is unbelievable. You get one side that shows up praying that they get their EI or UI and barely say a word while the other side plays the game with peoples lives. Don't get me wrong there are good guys but it is one sad state of affairs. As the Professor said things do change. The unfortunate thing is just how bad were these injections. There may very well be a huge shortage of Construction workers in all fields. Times they are a changing. That is for sure...
In Australia the unions turned on there own including punching on at there offices
Unions showed their true colors during covid.
They all need charged with intentional fraud
I.A.T.S.E. Failed to protect me from losing my job at a major sports arena. I was fired for "failure to disclose vaccination status."
Unfortunate for the Unions was some leadership that had their handouts first before the membership. Shameful that led to a distrust.
