    Considering the naming of the other planets, it will most likely be named after Greek/Roman mythology but will follow the pattern and use the Roman name rather than the Greek one. I'm thinking Chaos (god of the void) or Nyx (goddess of night) or Tartarus (god of the abyss). For anyone unfamiliar with the names I recommend googling them.

    I saw an awesome suggestion to call it Erebus, but to fit even more with the planet naming theme, how about Diana? It would kind of make sense as she was said to use a bow (at least the greek form, I think the Roman form too, as they are both the goddess of the hunt) and as a goddess could shoot very far and precisely, like this "planet" could be affecting the other planets (and those other objects) from very far away.

  • @tglr2531
    @tglr2531 5 років тому +1

    I think a good name for planet 9 would be Hodr (the blind god of cold and darkness)
    I choose him because:
    1. He's blind. Planet 9 is nearely immposible to see
    2. He's the god of winter. Planet 9 very far away from the Sun. So, its a very cold place.
    3. He's the god of darkness. Planet nine is very far away. Making it really dark.
    That's my suggestion

    Well, if this planet ever gets confirmed, it should be named Kore.
    After all, the original 9th Planet was named after the Roman God of the Underworld. Following that same motif, the new 9th Planet should be named after the Bride of Pluto, Kore.
    The greek equivalent of this goddes was Persephone.
    She was forced to marry Hades because she was kidnapped by him and ate six apple seeds, so Zeus required that she spend six months out of each year with Hades. In retaliation for this sentence, her mother, Demeter (greek equivalent to the Roman Ceres) cursed the earth with winter for six months out of every year, so that no crops could be harvested.
    So during the six months while Persephone is forced to live with Hades, she is his bride.
    Persephone's Roman name is Kore. Therefore, that's what this new planet should be named.

    After the hawaiian name for dwarf planets I would like to see something from the bible next, because the planet's huge trip around the sun in this distance will be like the exile and diaspora of the jewish pepole. specificly I would pick the monsters that protected the floor of the seas, known as the Leviatan. Leviatan sounds for me like a good name.

    Well, it has to be a Roman god (and not a Greek one). My ideas for a name are:
    „Hercules“ (God of Strength), I mean this planet changed the orbit of dozens of objects!
    „Juno“ (Goddess of the family) I just want to have another female planet and I love this name ... :)
    „Nox“ (goddess of the night) It somehow fits, don‘t you think? There is no light were the planet is. And I want to have a female planet :(
    „Veiovis“ (obscure god, a sort of anti-Jupiter. May be a god of the underworld) It also just fits!

      Since Orcus is already the name of a dwarf planet candidate, I have a few other similar suggestions:
      Erebus - this was the Greek god of darkness and embodies the Underworld (or at least part of it)
      Scotus - Roman version of Erebus
      Tartarus - Greek/Roman embodiment of the abyss
      EDIT: Just realized that another comment already suggested Erebus. :P

    I think Erebus would be a good name;
    it's Greek, it's name sounds like the other planets(instead of something like Asteria), and it's the God of Darkness(which is fitting since this planet is hard to find/in darkness from the Sun)
    And come on guys, they're not going to name it something "lol XD haha memes", at least try and come up with something legit.
