Great video and simple explanation, you should also mention how when both of them are stained, the chronic inflammation staining is usually darker or purple.

Great simple and succinct video. Would’ve loved a control of samples with no inflammation too.

Great video! However, plasma cells tend to have a more broken up 'clock-face' nucleus surrounding the edges of a round cell. This is the way to differentiate them from the very round nucleus found in an undifferentiated lymphocyte/ B cell (in contrast to what you mentioned at 1:46)

Yes, good catch! My video was a bit of an over-simplication for the purposes of distinguishing chronic and acute inflammation. Compared to the segmented nucleus of a neutrophil, a plasma cell's nucleus is more circular, but if you were differentiating between a plasma cell and a lymphocyte then you are absolutely right about the clock face nucleus!

Hi Joseph, thanks for the question. To some extent chronic inflammation can be reduced with an anti-inflammatory diet including fresh fruit and vegetables and limiting intake of fast food. However, more effective treatment includes pharmacological therapy with NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like aspirin to limit pain associated with the inflammation in joints as seen in Rheumatoid Arthritis, for instance.
