    Thanks Andy!
    Your videos are always on point and well thought out :)
    I had purchased 3 of these packages. One for each of my TX's and like you, I originally wanted less worries about flying behind things and failsafes, etc. But, after receiving them I had purchased a few very inexpensive wings too, as I wanted to try my luck with some long range birds / wings... Honestly, I don't have the means anymore to throw big money at things like I used too, as I'm now disabled and if it wasn't for this deal, I'd of never had the means to buy a X-Fire system and at $50 USD for each of their rx's, I wouldn't have the opportunity to go long range, for a long while either..
    So, thanks to Frsky too, for their help in helping folks like myself and others have the means to acquire such goodies :) Now, lets hope that Frsky R9 can deliver and with more updates on the way, I'm hoping it gets better and better!
    Make no mistake, TBS stuff is the BOMB, but it's also for folks that can afford to have the very best too. I have some of their products, an Oblivion too, and it was BIG BUCKS for that quad and its antiquated, but reliable components. I understand that TBS is angry too about this whole dilemma regarding Frsky, but they've to understand that competition is what keeps things moving along and in turn helps keep the cost of things in perspective too... (My opinion only) I'd own EVERYTHING TBS, if their prices weren't so high and I understand that money for R&D is high too, but in all seriousness, TBS has gotten their money for R&D several times over in regards to their products and yet their prices do not reflect that. My Oblivion is still $300 here in the USA from wherever you purchase it and the parts for it are a few years old, and for that price there are a LOT of other choices, some MUCH better, but having previously flown an Oblivion, I knew that I had to have one, even at that price and even if it had taken me several months of saving to afford it.Its an amazing flying quad and hasn't let me down yet and NOW I can go a little farther out with it and hopefully not worry so much about failsafes...?
    Hopefully THIS (R9M) is the answer to my. and others I'm sure, long-range dreams, and maybe someday I WILL be able to afford spending the $$$ for TBS crossfire. Until then, Thank you Frsky and Andy RC BOTH for doing what you do! Please keep the content coming Andy! I think Ive seen all your videos now and all caught up :)
    Best
    M

    AndyRC to enable you to select 1w on EU using flex you need to tick the R9 box in openTX companion! I had the same issue until I ticked the box and reflashed the radio with 2.2.3. I now get 1w power on EU with telemetry

    'Eating rice for the rest of the month' pmsl. i know that feeling, ive just spent a small fortune on a jumper T16 and R9M and the full size R9 rx, i planned my food purchases before i bought them to evaluate how quickly i can recover financially! Andy, if you are flashing EU firmware to receivers shipped as FCC, You need to change the Antenna, using a 900mhz antenna on 868mhz is going to shorten the life of the outputs big time from the crazy high SWR as well as reduce performance.
    If you dont want to buy a new antenna, it is possible to solder an extension to a 900mhz antenna to tune it to 868mhz, to tune a 868mhz antenna to 900mhz you trim length off.

  • @DanielBrassard
    @DanielBrassard 6 років тому +4

    My R9 system works fine. Happy with it, so on and so forth.
    I rather question the whole 900 mhz thing for general use, though. A *lot* of people are using crossfire and R9 when they simply don’t need the range or penetration. Video is usually the limiting factor.
    Plus, 900 mhz antennas are a pain in the rectum to mount. Nothing like as clean as 2.4.

    hi Andy,
    watching your videos a lot and they are nice, have a question about this one though. Do you know if the new R9M modules with ACCESS protocol works with
    the old Taranis X9D+ transmitter with ACCST protocol?
    thanks!

      @quincypurcell5222 4 роки тому

      I can verify that you can indeed. I bought the set and lucky as I may be, I could reflash the ACCST to the R9M and the R9MM module.
      it's pitty that 200 and 500mW is not telemetry capable. otherwise it's a great tx. the receivers are also very cheap, I can find them for 23 euro locally.
      and 29 euro for the R9m mini.

  • @ArchmageAU

    Still a bit to go before R9M catches up to crossfire. However it looks like FrSky are heading in the right direction to give good competition so TBS does not get it all their own way.

    Hey Andy, I have been using the R9 system for the past 4 months or so and have to say it is quite good here in the US. I get good range but during the first couple months it was a tad sketchy. With newer firmwares it has improved a lot. I suggest using the R9 slim+ even if it is a bit overkill.

  • @jtrent90
    @jtrent90 6 років тому

    on the current firmwares, the RSSI outputs automatically on CH16 (AUX12 on betaflight) straight from the receiver, don't even need to have 16 channels active on the TX since it sends from the receiver itself. as you can imagine it gives you a more reliable reading than sending from the transmitter

  • @charlesmcguire9711
    @charlesmcguire9711 6 років тому

    You should do a quick video on the last few minutes alone. The part about some of the settings on the radio and getting RSSI to work etc. Those are little nuggets you don't hear enough and I don't think enough people take advantage of. You have a new sub. Thanks mate. Cheers.

    Hi Andy, I have the R9 unit from Quadcopters.co.uk and when I initially got it and found it was that the EU version (UK flyer myself) it was 25mw telemetry / 500mw without I was gutted with the options, the performance I was getting with 25mw was about the same I was getting with a well set up 2.4ghz system (using telemetry for RSSI etc) however news and initial reports of the flex firmware has restored some faith.
    TBS's Crossfire has the test of time on its side as far as miniquads, it has far superior documentation and tried and tested setups, it'll just also take time & documentation (YT vids etc) before the R9 proves itself to be a good cheap long range alternative.

    Andy, what options did you select when downloading firmware in OpenTX companion?
    According to source code (I've been watching what are devs doing) there should be another option to enable "non certified firmwares". This should add EU+ mode to R9M menu and enable FLEX modes.
    I have been running R9M on all my quads for a decent time right now, I think it is a month or so and still haven't tried OpenTX 2.2.3 with FLEX. Not that I'm afraid of nightlies, but just being lazy with it. Flashing back to 2.2.2 is not fun.

    Hi Andy
    Just getting into racing quads and putting my kit together. I've just bought a non EU firmware x9d and was going to get the crossfire so I wouldn't need to flash. If I got this would it work or am I going to need to flash still? Thought I just needed to learn to fly but I only understood 10% of what you said. So much to learn 🤦🏻

      You will need to flash yes. Cross fire does it for you

    • @thedroneexplorer2603

      @@AndyRCchannel thanks Andy. Do you recommend flashing the x9d to EU LBT or flash the R9M and receiver to non EU (or are they locked?)
      Thanks

      if you got an eu r9 system you dont need to flash taranis internal module (unless you want to use eu 2.4ghz rx)

  • @MrJarrod
    @MrJarrod 6 років тому

    It's not Flash like crossfire , but I just want to fly and not worry about Failsafes. R9M is for me as it's an affordable price.

    Hi Andy, do you know if I have taranis international version, can I put rm9 EU on it?

    Hey andy. Great video, i got mine on wednesday lastnight. Module and Rx for 30quid. Bargain.
    But, 2 things ive noticed since using the r9m that i hope they fix..
    1. When you have 2 people using it, if one is running at 25mw and the other at 200mw, u will failsafe the other person (im not sure why but we tested it a few times)
    2. No pulses doesnt work with the kiss FC, spent 6+ hours searching with no avail and came across the solution, its on my channel. If you do an update to the R9M can you mention it? Cause i nearly lost my fingers :(
    Great video Mr Andy :)

    And the drop in price is because Trapy told hobbyshops that if they sell FRsky, they will not suply tbs product to them because he said the copy the inmortal antenna, when is fact FRsky is been nice to let the x9d and other radios be compatible with TBS garbage, yes the TBS is 2 watts, and R9M is one watt. So now FRsky drop the price of the R9M to 30 dollars, sinking the TBS crossfire, plus the R9slimplus receiver is with diversity and telemetry and F ans S port, and 6 pwm output channels and is 25 dollars, versus TBS micro, sbus, tbs telemetry nightmare, and ony 4 pwm channels using a converter, LOL, and 46 dollars, and the antenna was not TBS invention, is from IB Crazy. So now they going to put TBS out of bussiness.

      2.4 and 5.8

      Thanks. Thats what I was thinking, 1.3 seems it would probably be too close to 900. TBS have a pretty nifty 2.4ghz video groundstation although it is kind of pricey.

    It's nice but like a handful of others I am getting a rapid 70-0 RSSI which will if your Failsafe guard time is set low enough trigger a failsafe. This all happens very fast and the RSSI is back to normal again so upping the failsafe guard time to a little over 1 second (wait for recovery) has helped to continue flying but it's not ideal. test on both FCC and LBT with no change.. It's not an ideal "Fix" by any means but has helped.. That said it seems to work for others. See my channel for more detail's..

    What does telemetry mean

    • @Tigerwilson88
      @Tigerwilson88 5 років тому

      Telemetry is the ability of the receiver on the aircraft to convey information to the transmitter. For example, PID's, altitude and speed (if using gps), mode that the flight controller is in (manual, horizon, return to home etc..)

  • @BirdlessFlight

      Did you watch the video? There is no fcc or eu lbt with flex...

    • @BirdlessFlight
      @BirdlessFlight 6 років тому

      They don't ship with flex so I still have to do the hassle with the pins to flash it. Don't get me wrong, it's a very welcome step forward, but it's been virtually impossible to tell which you were ordering in the past, and now they just added a third option that will be sold as a single item...

    Always like to hear your views..for me however I will stick with TBS. For one its just a way better user friendly system all the way around. 2nd, Ever try to get any customer support from Frsky??? hahaha....good luck!!! 3rd...frsky does nothing to innovate or push anything forward, their gear is either cloned, copied or bought from others. I want to support the people that support us. Not the Chinese guy looking to only line his pockets.
