    Another great video . Thanks. Do you know if L9r module that works on 900mhz will interfere with 3dr telemetry that runs on 900mhz ? Have you used any telemetry system to suggest? Thanks in advanced.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  4 роки тому +1

      Interestingly enough, I have used 900Mhz telemetry along with the R9 module... and since you can tune the telemetry's frequency range, I tried to move it out of the R9's range, although I am using the EU firmware for the R9, so it is running at 868Mhz, not 900Mhz! I have not seen it affect the R9, but it is possible the R9's telemetry, if enabled, might have an effect on the telemetry module!

    That system is worth serious consideration over more Dragonlink receivers, not much more for the entire system and any additional receivers end up being way cheaper. Great review again, and thanks.

    Very Nice review! I got a full size X-Uav Talon recently and am looking for a long range system. Looks like it perhaps is gonna be the R9 system. A question: n the video at 4:22 there is some fast forward video, the shaking we see is it drifting in the Z axis at the gimbal or the plane not going straight? I'm asking because I recently build a 3D printed gimbal with a StorM32 controller, in some settings the Z axis drift a bit and go back.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  6 років тому

      Nope, not a drift of the gimbal. The plane's rudder PIDs are not very well tuned... which is driving me nuts when I review the footage... and I always forget to try and get that sorted!

Also how much power would I need on the telemetry radios for the Pixhawk I was thinking 500mw? Thanks for all the advice. Great video!

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  5 років тому

      Yes, it should get the job done! With my antenna tracker I have been able to get 14 kms out of 200mW... but with the goggles you might not be able to point the antennas quite so accurately! This Vtx just might give you that chance, but keep in mind quality antennas are a more important than power output! As for the telemetry... with good antennas 100mW should be more than enough... then again... if you don't have any directional antennas... perhaps try the 500mW versions... and lets hope they work!

    Diversety means, you should install the two Antennas in separat polarisation ( H/V) or divided from each other.
    Contact a local Ham-Radio-Operator to measur your SWR ( Return Loss) of your Antennas and you will be surprised to reach the moon!
    If you just improve your RX-Antenna gain +6dB, it will double your distance. I also recomend a super low noise Pre-Amp @ 0.4dB NF.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  6 років тому +1

      During my flight, at no point, when I was at distance, was the plane banked more than 5-10 degrees... what good would a horizontal antenna be??? Especially when the antenna on the ground is vertical as well! As it is now... the video system is the limiting factor by a long shot... so at this time I really don't think that improving gain is really needed. If my video system ever manages to out-range the R9 receiver... then I will consider improving the antennas, or adding that Pre-Amp thingy! :) Thanks for the suggestions though!

    • @JulianGoesPro

      totally get your attitude, but why mounting the second antenna than at all? Less drag, less weight (not that I think the later would count in RL)

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  6 років тому

      With these flat antennas... I always keep thinking that they might be a tad more directional in one of the sides... so I mount them this to make sure that at any time, at least one antenna will have its more directional side towards the Tx on the ground.

I cut some foam out of the nose of the Clouds, so I can make room for a printed piece, and glued that in, then I just mount the gimbal to it with the dampers, and used zip ties to hold the dampers in place mostly during landings, because they do like to pull out of the beds when the plane hits the ground!

      @FPV420. 6 років тому

      Thank you Nikola. In fact I managed to solve this issue after lots of troubleshooting but here is what I've found. Firstly, you need to have FRSKY QX7 in order to set failsafe.Then the firmware must be the newest available, otherwise the menu for failsafe won't be there. Once flashed in the menu of the model you're flying you have to turn the internal module off and enable the external module i.e R9M. Lastly in the menu of the model from "failsafe" option you may specify if the action is "no pulses", or last values or custom. After all that you may use other type of JR compatible radio like Turnigy 9XR.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  6 років тому

      Right... that failsafe works only with an FrSky radio, because only it can communicate with the module that way, the other radios just don't have the hardware necessary I would guess! Glad you figured it out though! :)

Even with the diversity receiver on 100mw I get RSSI low warnings (RSSI/LQ in the osd also drops down to like 50%) at 2km. Once I even failsafed. 2km were easily possible with my FrSky x4r (Rssi was stabel around 80%) so I don't feel any real improvement. I though about buying the big Crossfire TX but that would be an extra 108€ over the Micro TX. I don't wanna go out further than 5km, I still chose to go with a longrange system to have extra security when flying planes that do not have RTH.
    Now I may just try out this system.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  6 років тому

      Thanks mate. Actually the L9R receiver ( goo.gl/76N7Sf ) should give you plenty of security out to 5kms, unless you like to fly low behind trees. I've been able to get out to 22kms with it, without loosing the signal... I can only assume 5kms will be quite trivial for it!

      ArxangelRC yeah you may be right. I'm actually currently using an l9r receiver in my wing and had no problems. But since I'm also now starting to fly a bit further away with my miniquads a long range system just gives extra confidence. Also considering the price difference between an r9 and l9r receiver it seems worth the extra confidence I would gain. I once Fail-Safed at 1.8 km (x4r) over a forest and my quad fell to the ground. I was able to find it but the experience wasn't very pleasant and if possible I want to avoid another crash at longer distances.

      the Crossfire system, when installed like in this video (foam plane, plenty of spacing with components, etc), will easily give you 20km on 10mW power setting. please keep in mind that with 900MHz systems the installation and RF profile performance matters a lot, not the output power.

    Your antennas are not optimally mounted for a diversity RX, they should be 90deg to each other. The way you have it mounted you might as well only have one antenna. I have been using the R9M system since release and I love it!

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  3 роки тому +1

      Well diversity is more applicable where there is 3D flying... I fly level, at distance... hardly see the reason to mount them otherwise given that at distance my turns rarely happen at more than 5 dergee roll, so for my purpose, they are properly mounted! And yes, R9M has been brilliant for me as well, really like it!

      This will plug into any radio with a JR module bay (Turnigy 9X, 9XR, 9XR Pro, Taranis anything, etc.). 900mhz RC links (such as TBS Crossfire, and this one) have been known to cause significant problems with 1.3Ghz video setups. You may want to do some more research and figure out if your planned setup will work. Most people flying 1.3 video are using 433 for control.

      Telemetry is off, because this was done on the 500mW option, and for the EU firmware it has no telemetry! As far as I can tell... people who try to use telemetry do have worse results, which is expected... Usually for my Graupner radio, when I lost telemetry that didn't cause a failsafe, the radio link was still good! For some reason FrSky gear goes into failsafe the moment telemetry is lost... so even if you have radio... it will go into failsafe... at least that is how I think the protocol works based on my observations!

No problems soldering the pins. I learned the temperature matters the most) and finally the maiden flight. My yaw dropped so hard I couldn't believe it just worked. Hmmm... can't really say what the issue could be! I have been able to bind mine at any output power with the firmware version I have, and I haven't update to newer versions - if it works... why touch it?!?! In any case... this is not OK, have you tried moving the receiver further away from the radio? Could be at these higher power levels the receiver gets swamped from the radio and it can't bind properly!

      Hi thanks for the reply. i tried to put the transmitter far away from the reciever to bind, but unfortunately it doesn´t work. Not in 200 and not in 500mW. i think maybe they restricted this with their latest firmware? can you tell me what firmware is on your module and reciever? or, if not, when did you buy it?
      i try older firmware! and you are right, never change a running system.

      Can't remember now which version I used, but it is at least 3 months old... try some of the older ones, but you will have to flash the receivers with the corresponding older firmware for them as well! :)

      Thank you! I have been searching the internet for over half a year now, but the only good quality low KV brushless motors I could find were from Sunnysky. Unfortunately they are expensive and can only be ordered from China or the US. The Racestar motors seem like a good solution as I want to build a motor glider with long flight times. What is your experience with them or can you recommend any other motors?

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  6 років тому +1

      Weeeeell, the price of the SunnySkys is justified... they are good quality. T-motor is another good motor, but even more expensive. Racerstars are OK, but their bearings are not very good... need lubricating or possibly replacing after very little use... which really makes the SunnySkys not that expensive! Usually the higher the prop, and the lower Kv the motor, the better the flight time, even on a fixed wing! :)

My issue is just, I'm not looking to get plane after plane after plane etc. I just want a single plane that'll fly stable for some HD video(probably runcam split), and will let me fly for long, so I can fly far / high. Nano Talon seems to be able to fly far, but from what I've seen its not the most stable plane.

    • @ArxangelRC

      I think the pre-order will be around 170 USD, final price after the pre-order will be 200 USD. This is with electronics, etc.! Outstanding, not surprising though with 500mw of RF output...Im guessing having a 5.8G video link helped.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  6 років тому

      Hahahaha, no idea what the max allowed output is at that frequency... but there has to be a reason why the EU version has been castrated like this! 5.8Ghz is a great frequency... doesn't interfere with anything else...

    • @EnglishTurbines
      @EnglishTurbines 6 років тому

      I think if you investigate, you are not allowed to run your TX above 10 mw....maximum RF output. If you are using a Horus Transmitter, it has RF power pre-sets, starting at 10 mw for folk like you in the EU...!!!!
      5.8G is a great video frequency, if you like flying distance on the edge of space....lol.
      Dragon Link receivers are not as resistant to 1.2G Video as the EZUHF system. The DL Transmitters are also known to be dirty sideband generators and also affect 1.2G Video receivers if they are too close.

    • @JulianGoesPro
      @JulianGoesPro 6 років тому +1

      EnglishTurbines I am pretty sure it’s 25mW, you can put the CorssFire Tx in CE mode and I think that limited it to 25mW max power (so it jumps from 10mW to 25mW when needed)

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  6 років тому +1

      Well... 25mW isn't going to get us anywhere... so a good job they included that 500mW option... but while they are at it... might as well give us the same functionality as the FCC one... could be without telemetry... don't care about that anyway! :D
      I actually am using the international firmware on my Taranis and 2.4Ghz receivers. That EU firmware for those is no good in my eyes!

      Many people have a crossfire, its a good/proven system.. This one is way cheaper, is supported by FrSKY and doesn't need a PC based program to run updates. I appreciate this video and would like to see more people having success/reviewing this as it's a lower cost option and has insane range.

    • @JulianGoesPro
      @JulianGoesPro 6 років тому

      is it that much cheaper? With "high key" quad races requiring to use crossfire it became a no-brainer for those but with "LongRange" it's still not that common like Dragon Link or EzUHF (is that still a thing lol? :D)... what I am curious now... you say "doesn't need a PC based program to run updates", how does FrSky solves that "problem"? I mean the CorssFire Tx can flash over the air the receivers which I already did and love, but true, you still need a PC to update the FW on the Tx module, does FrSky offer you to just "drop it on the Taranis SD card" to update Tx and Rx?

    • @windwalkerfpv
      @windwalkerfpv 6 років тому +1

      It's $75 for the R9M+R9 Slim.. 1/2 the cost of a crossfire micro bundle and 10 times the output power. Since the R9M can output 1W it's more comparable with the big $210 full-size crossfire. As you said.. updates are done by dropping the files on the Taranis SD card.
