    I lived in Putney for a year in the early 90s and MM had a residency at the Half Moon, on the first Tuesday of every month. I saw them 12 times on the spin. Many years later I got to play with excellent bassist Robin Clayton (featured in this clip) and gave him a copy of this performance which I had salvaged from an old VHS tape. He said his kids saw his then-slim frame and took the piss mercilessly.

    There were so many music venues in London of the 70s,80s ,where you can watch a decent band for next to nothing; where I lived, it was Paz at the Kensington ,Olympia on Sundays,Bepop at the Bull's head,Jazz night on Wednesday, at the Phoenix, Cavendish Sq.Great times!

    Saw them live in Bath in the early 80”s,can’t remember the exact year but they were off the charts amazing. That night will stay with me for ever. Truly fab Jazz outfit that didn’t, don’t get the recognition they deserve.

    So many people here posting their memories of seeing this band live - so I'm going to shamelessly ask - doesn't anyone have any bootlegs? Not the sort of thing I normally chase - but the studio albums don't do this band the credit they deserve. The albums were always reined in and commercial - but live they used to kick ass, they would absolutely fly, it was a joy to hear and a joy to watch. It would be a real shame if this wasn't captured anywhere. I was a regular watching this band through the 80s, when Noel McCalla was on vocals. Pete Jacobsen (keys), Neal Wilkinson (drums) and Trevor Barry (bass). What a band.

    Beautiful, the very best jazz funk and live too, this live version beats the studio recorded version I think. They were feeling it on this performance, I have watched it about 100 times, it's like fine champagne in music form, such talent.

    I saw them in JAFFA's the Horseshoe Tottenham Ct Road in 1982, in the Jazz Room. Throughout their performance the crowds were too indulged in dancing to the Jazz, at the end of their performance they both thanked us all for showing " a true appreciation of thier music". Never forget that. From their Album "Badness"

    My husband and I happened upon Morrisseey Mullen in the mid-80s when we were living in London, at a cruddy pub in Kentish Town, called the Bull something. We can't remember. Saw them there several times and also at the 100 Club on Oxford St. They were amazing. We still remember their gigs vividly and often tell friends about them. Only have one tape, tho -- This Must Be the Place. They electrified the room. Great music.

I became hooked when I heard the best of British Jazz funk album featuring Slipstream and managed to catch up with Dick and Jim on a number of occasions since in various bands. To Flashaaahaaah - Sir, you are so right. Dick Morrissey, who I knew well when he was alive, was a true gentleman and one of British jazz's greatest assets. I learned a vast amount about playing just by watching and listening to him - I owe him a tremendous amount! A posthumous knighthood sounds a wonderful idea, even though I doubt if a knighthood would have ever crossed his mind. Dick, you were, and are, a true jazz hero - Thank you for the music.

    • @juneron
      @juneron 6 років тому +1

      The Torrington, ah yes what memories. I had to move from North London to Northampton with a job, but travelled down to Finchley every sunday for the bands. Saw Dick with If from their very early days until the inevitable first major change of personnel about 1973. These guys were the absolutely finest live musicians who engaged with their audience and always performed at their best. No effects, no lightshows, no gimmicks, just fantastic music with feeling. Sadly such bands no longer exist, replaced by studio music created by electronica and relatively talentless individuals. If it sounds like I'm a grumpy old git it's probably because I am, but I will never forget or stop playing this and similar music which remains the very best and timeless.

    Wow....159 likes and no dislikes but what kind of idiot could dislike this. I am honoured to see these Guy's play on many occasion although generally not as this band. Dick had the greatest empathy of any performer I have ever known. He was a great virtuoso but also seemed to have a feel of what the audience wanted.

    A posthumous knighthood for Dick is the least he deserves. OBEs for Jim and Critch too. Why can't we have a Prime Minister who appreciates the Arts? Suppose they don't put millions into tory party funds - that might be it!
