  • We have seen this scam tactic's aftermath many times with users not knowing how it happened.
Internet scams are constantly changing to look more legitimate and this method is no exception - using the "prove you're not a robot" phrase to encourage users to click on an allow button that unknowingly allows these scammers to spam your computer with notifications claiming your machine is compromised or infected with viruses.
We want to help protect people from these scams. If you are uncertain if something is legit or how to get rid of a scam popup, please give us a call or reach out. We are here locally in Anacortes, WA.

I fell for this ONCE and got spammed with "dont forget to turn on your adblocker!" notifications. No more chrome notifications I guess

Things have not improved that much in terms of quality of scams. Since the 90s I have seen much better efforts. I guess those people retired or are in prison by now.
    Good video.

Thanks for this. My mom lost $600 to this scam. It was too late by the time we found out about it.

I'm sorry for the loss on that. These scams are truly awful and I hope more and more people gain awareness on how to avoid them.

So it’s Me, I’m the dummy. I turned off the notifications and don’t see any new apps or extensions, but I still have the option to turn the notifications back on. Is this enough or do I need to do something else?

If you are unsure if anything was installed, you can use Windows Security, a free built-in antivirus tool to scan for malware. Typically, if you click allow on those popups, it's only a problem if you ever clicked on the popup and installed software from it OR called a phone number on one of their pages and had you install remote access software like AnyDesk, TeamViewer, ScreenConnectClient, UltraViewer, etc.
