    Been using LibreOffice but it amazes me that after a decade, they STILL can't get compatibility with MS Office right. Like recently, I opened a Judicial Affidavit with Q&A numbering (Q1, A1, Q2, A2...), and guess what? All A's were A1. I couldn't find any help to fix it either. Setting up page size (A4, A5, Long Bond, etc.) is also nuts. When you go to print, it always defaults back to A4 size. Like, isn't the page size ALREADY set?? LO is a hot mess.

      Are you fresh installing Windows 11 from a USB stick made with the Windows Media Creation Tool? If you have just purchased a machine, sometimes the version of Windows the stores put on the machine block this trick from working. You may have to fresh install the system using a USB stick to get around this.

    I have an Intel 2020 MBP, which is supposed to be still "supported". It overheats and stutters often running modern versions of macOS, even when I'm just watching a UA-cam video. I've come all the way to Sonoma and I'm afraid another upgrade will render it practically unusable for me. I did factory reset it twice, but the problem remains. I'm not sure what I should do, but I have a strong desire to try switch to LMDE. Maybe I actually just need to take it apart and clean some dust.

    • @compumatterllc
      @compumatterllc 16 днів тому

      I would highly recommend opening it up and blowing out dust if you are getting overheating issues just in case. You can also boot to Linux LIVE USB and try some youtube videos on that to see if the issue continues before making the switch.

    hello When I install Linux, the fan of my device works a lot, and when I install Windows, there is no such problem, and when I put the device in sleep mode, the device does not turn on anymore. can you help

    • @compumatterllc
      @compumatterllc 19 днів тому

      By chance, is it an Apple machine you installed Linux on? I would recommend looking into a tool called "mbpfan" to help with the fan issue. As for the sleep issue, this can be caused by a lot of things including hardware incompatibility. Type in "sudo apt update" and "sudo apt upgrade" and hit enter into the terminal program to ensure your device has the latest update. Another thing you can check is going into your BIOS (if applicable) and disabling Fast Boot to see if that helps. If you still run into issues with either of these, the Ubuntu community is very active on the forums would be able to direct you better on gathering logs and troubleshooting. Best of luck and I hope this helps!

    • @compumatterllc
      @compumatterllc 19 днів тому

      When installing Ubuntu, there will be a prompt menu that allows you to use "safe graphics". I would recommend giving that a try to see if there is any improvement. It's odd that you are getting a black screen on both operating systems...have you tried plugging in your mac to an external monitor when it is supposed to be booted just in case something shows up there?

    People overlook the privacy concerns of bookmarks. From your bookmarks one can develop a very detailed profile of you.

    • @compumatterllc
      @compumatterllc 19 днів тому

      Absolutely understand the concern. Bookmarks are private to websites you are visiting, however, Google could certainly make a profile of what you bookmark and market to that. The main concern would be accidental installation of nefarious browser extensions (which would have access to your browser data), malware, or remote access scams. Duckduckgo is a great privacy focused browser as well and we will be making a video on that in the future. It's good to be aware of everything online, thank you for the comment!

    На такие ноутбуки только и ставить линукс. Это единственно правильный вариант когда устройство работает а операционная система не поддерживается её разработчиками. Это вторая жизнь для корректно работающего устройства. Выбрасывать работающий компьютер который ещё может прослужить экономически глупо и нецелесообразно. Проще поставить более лёгкую операционную систему.

    I like your tutorial and the live demo at the same time. What does the GNU Privacy Guard external refer to when it comes to the encryption part? Thank you for the video ^^

    • @compumatterllc
      @compumatterllc 19 днів тому

      Thank you for the feedback! GNU Privacy Guard (GPG) is an open-source tool used for encryption. In Duplicati, it works as an external tool to protect your backups. GPG encrypts your files using a public key, and only the matching private key can decrypt them. Duplicati calls GPG to handle this encryption, providing a secure way to store your backups. By default, Duplicati uses symmetric encryption with the AES-256 algorithm. This method requires a single passphrase for both encryption and decryption, making it easier to manage for most users. If you choose to use GPG as an external tool, Duplicati can utilize asymmetric encryption with GPG, but the default built-in method is AES-256, which is widely used and secure. They have some articles on their page about this tool.

    I have a old Lenovo T510 with ultra bay. It has been rugged, surviving my dirt bike trips. The hard drive is just a couple of screws from a back panel to remove. And the ultra drive comes out via a little sliding latch. Is there a updated Lenovo version of that machine? I sure can not find it. The T580 has the mouse pad to the side because of the 10-key key board. Is there a T580 that one can fit a smaller keyboard in and have it centered on the laptop? Is there a laptop that will accept two external new style operating system drives? I like having the two drives without having a duel boot drive.

    • @compumatterllc
      @compumatterllc 19 днів тому

      You might want to look into the smaller screens like the T490, although the trackpad is still slightly off to the side. Most ThinkPads do not come with multiple drive bays by default, and the T580/T480 have two M.2 slots but you can only use one of them at a time so that does not help. I would recommend searching for something based on your spec needs and seeing if it has any way to add or convert more SATA or NVMes.

    I Never really used word for a few exceptions being some work documents I needed to complete. For some reason, I was paying 70$ ANNUALLY for programs such as word, power, point, one drive, etc, that I very rarely used (once - 5 times a year). I stopped my subscription since it wasn't worth it at all and I also switched to linux since I was tired of windows 11. I have been using Linux Mint and LIbre Office since then. it has been such a help since I now days have lots of documents to complete. Now, that I have online workspace and work remotely, it has been such a great help and FOR FREE AND OPEN SOURCE!! I know it might not be the best comparison, since I was rarely using word and now I heavily rely on programs such a libre office now days but it is a great, and easy to understand alternative compared to office. If you're searching for alternatives, you should try it and see if you like the experience to make a switch. 😎
