Facts, as a former opiate addict this song and his new song church gives me chills every time
About Madchild's story, I'm pretty sure he's referencing the first time he got sober. Certain people looked at him like a role model after that. So when he fell off again he felt like he didn't only betray himself but that he betrayed his fans as well.
Well getting out of the addiction it's common to relaspse any real recovery people wouldn't consider Madchild's relapse as a betrayal but trial and error. Remember these artists are human and change isn't always easy or smooth. But I figure you might know that.
Painful skies is my all time favorite madchild song its about his journey to getting right it was powerful for me.
Sounds similar to a reference that Maclamore makes in one of his songs, which is a logical conclusion by you.
He was from the group swollen members.

The problem with the battle with addiction, it never ends. I’ve overdosed twice, clinically dead. Still hard to quit, was meth head. Been sober over 20 years an sometimes it’s still difficult. I’m not tryin to be perfect, just better then i was last night. Tom’s music helps more then he could ever know. So does HOG, helps so much being part of something

Congratulations! I’m 5 years sober. And it’s still a fight for me. I still get cravings for it. I’ve overdosed 25+ times. And didn’t learn until I tried to get clean, moved in with my sister then left to get high and she kicked him out cause she had a young child in the home and didn’t want him around it. Which now I COMPLETELY understand. Slept on the street and decided right then that I didn’t want to live like that. Went back to my sisters and she knew I was serious about quitting. Haven’t touched anything since.
I hope and pray your still doing well. If not...dont give up, you can STILL turn it around! If you are still doing well then GOOD JOB! It's a forever battle...some days no problems, other days are still hard. Either way we HOGS are here for you!

This song makes me cry every time. I have never had an addiction I’ve been blessed so many people close to me have had and struggle with and fight. This is such a good song.
This is an Anthem for so many people. Once you listen to "Best Rapper Ever"&"Angels" again you will see him continuing the support and message.
One of the reasons that H.O.G. will have Tom forever, we're connected and he has saved many if us. We will do everything to be there for him.

madchilds line about his dog being his only fam and having to bury her was the hardest hitting thing in this song for me. its all heavy but when i got off dope i was so down i wanted to off myself and that lasted for months. deepest depression ive ever felt. my dog bella is the only thing that kept me alive at that point. having SOMETHING to love and care for reminded me it was possible to love myself too

Did not research. I understand now. My baby Bruster recently passed. Had him until the last couple years of his life when my adopted mom took him in for his golden years because my situation wasnt healthy for him as well as me but felt like I lost a child

Madchild used to be a member of a Canadian group called Swollen Members. I believe (though I could be wrong) that his drug and alcohol addictions are what got him booted from the group.
Yep. Although he and Prevail stayed friends from what I remember. They made some great music.
It also got him banned from the USA for a bit. At one point the US assumed he had associations with the Hells Angels. So they banned him.
To my knowledge Madchild is still apart of Swollen Members
I’m fairly certain Prevail had addiction struggles as well.

This song is one that will ALWAYS NEED TO BE HEARD. Someone somewhere is struggling with addiction and may want to get sober but needs that little something else to either help get clean or stay clean.

Yeah it's pretty rough song to listen to. When you really listen to the lyrics and you listen to what they've gone through you think about your own life and addictions and the problems that you've had in your life. We can never erase what we did we can only create A New Path. And most of us already know that life is never meant to be easy
I am the opposite, i look at what they have been through/ put themselves through and i say well fuck my life is pretty cake. My father committed suicide, my grand father committed suicide, my whole fathers side were hardcore drug addicts/ alcoholics, grew up with an abusive step dad, dirt poor to the point of having to work under the table at the age of 9 and i ended up avoiding all of the traps many fall into. I guess that's what they call white privilege. Instead i started college at 16, i make six figures, all i owe is a mortgage, eligible to retire before 50 years old and can't say i have any addictions beyond porn. It makes me wonder how things could have gone in my own life if I had taken other paths.
Tom is a national treasure. Can something please wrap him in bubble wrap so nothing ever happens to him.

The young(ish) white guy w/ red hair & scruffy beard in "WHITEBOY" is also in "CASTLES". And the older white guy w/ long hair & mustache in the beginning of "I WISH" (I wish that I was rich) is also in "CASTLES" & "SOBER". yeah she was. he's used the young boy for a couple different things too. he's the kid who says "i wish i could be like tom" and in... everybody hates me, the camera flicks over to the kid when tom says "i beat up a kid, killed bambi while huntin".
Yeah, I think so too. It is the lady wearing green shirt in this video. I believe she was the first person in “I Wish”. I know that the teacher in “Whiteboy” was the doctor in “Cancer” and the police officer standing behind Tom in the courtroom setting during “Straight White Male” was the father in “Cancer”.

One of the actors that played in the promo of Killing the Neighbors bringing over the apple pie to greet Tom and "Maddie" is at the AA meeting. All are actors.

Having gone through addiction myself, this song is something I probably needed all those years ago, this might be single greatest piece of art I’ve ever heard, and these guys have a lot of guts putting every single thing out there, they didn’t leave anything out knowing some of it is probably so embarrassing for them, what a great piece of art work this is
Madchild was in Swollen Members from Vancouver. They were pretty popular in the 90s and early 2000s. A "newer" song you might enjoy is "On One" by Madchild. It's got flow, cadence, bars and a vibe. cheers!

It's crazy this song came out while I was in rehab after fighting drug addiction for 17 years...it was nuts comin home from rehab n I couldnt wait to get on UA-cam to see what's been happening n Tom just dropped this song! Funny how life works😊
Great breakdown as always. This song is an anthem for so many people. Yeah Madchild was part of Canada’s biggest hip hop group. They were huge chart toppers throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s. He got sober climb up and was a role model but he fell off the wagon. He is an amazing battle rapper. It’s worth going back and checking out his older stuff then comparing it to now. He just released three new songs.

Thankfully they are sharing the trials they went through! So many people that can relate to it... I see sharing there own stories in the comments! It lets them know they aren't alone and there is hope! For some it helps to keep them on the right track..to not give in to there addiction! One of the great things about YT/Internet as that they can reach so many people from all over the world! I think it's admirable of them to share the vulnerable side of themselves and the things they have gone through!!! It's a win ..win situation...the artist gets to use there music as an outlet for this pain and listeners find out ...they are NOT ALONE! Thank You Knox for what & how you are able to convey the message of these artists so others can benefit from it!!! You are the 🐐🐐🐐!!!

I've never had an addiction. But I fought beside my son for 10 years. He didn't make it. I still feel like I'm fighting it only alone now. This song brings back memories of treatment centers, courts, psychiatric treatments, AA/NA meetings... and the other people I met in the same situation in his struggle. It's real to me too. I can't tell you how many I still think about. I see their faces in this video. Many aren't here anymore. I will never be the same.

Madchild was in a very big Canadian rap group called swollen Members and through gambling, drugs and alcohol he lost it all and in the last few years has really stepped up his game being sober with his head on straight just continuing his own independent career as a rapper. The Jackal and I was on drugs would be a good start with his own music
you should check out madchilds "drugs in my pocket" it's pretty much his take of fighting his demons with sobriety.

So glad you got to hear madchild. Understandably there aren’t too many madchild reactions out there because he isn’t a huge name but he can rap. Look up “ fuel injected” by swollen members. You should recognize it. It was a full scale banger at the time. Also, if you get a couple minutes listen to prefontaine or little monster blend by madchild. Park bench by swollen members is also criminally underrated.

Apparently Madchild was the Em of Canada, until his addictions got the best of him. But now, he's on the comeback and doing well again.
Also, he was in Swollen Members which was a pretty popular indie hip hop band.
