  • This production is an absolute massive achievement for me! It has been #1 on my bucket list to shoot trains in the Wind River Canyon and I was fortunate to capture two here in one day. A massive thank you goes out to my friend Jared Pohll who did all of the driving and supplying information to be able to capture the two trains in this video.
Wind River Canyon sits between Shoshoni and Thermopolis WY on the BNSF Casper Sub and has some of the most spectacular scenery in the whole Country. This video features a Southbound Greybull to Casper (GRWCAS) manifest train and later a Northbound Denver to Laurel (DENLAU) manifest train.
The highlight of this section of railroad in my opinion is the three back to back tunnels on the South end of the canyon. Being Tunnel 3, Tunnel 4, and Black Tunnel. I was fortunate to capture both trains through that section.
    Recording equipment used:
    -DJI Inspire 2 (Zenmuse X5S)
    -Samsung Galaxy S10
    -DJI Osmo Action
Music is used from Artlist and Soundstripe.
Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed!

    The scenery.
    The music.
The poetry of heavy industry gliding over a pair of parallel steel ribbons.
A spectacle that is lost on all but a few who truly appreciate the enterprise.

I have driven this canyon 3 times over the years going into Yellowstone via Cody. But this is the first time I have been able to appreciate the true beauty and spectacular formations and this massive canyon. Your work is truly so artistic in the orientation and filming of such natural beauty with the perfect positioning of the train. All of your videos are very professionally done and background music is spot on. Please continue your effort with your natural talent!!

Thanks so much Charles I'm humbled you think so! I am my worst critic so I hold myself at probably a much higher standard than anyone else! I try so so hard to be seamlessly smooth all the time which does take quite the concentration. The fact that I fly the DJI Inspire 2 helps a great deal. I've owned and flown a handful of DJI drones over the years and the Inspire 2 is by far the smoothest to operate. Other drones are very touchy with the controls and very hard to keep smooth and steady with the way I fly and film. You betcha I will continue! Thank you for the encouragement!

The views into and out of the tunnel, the snaking of the trains and the Wind River... mesmerizing. Also love the music you have with these videos, and especially liked when you were on the ground and the actual sound of the train was present. Superb videoing and editing. Oh, and I have to ask... were you expecting to catch both trains that day, or was it a happy accident?

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  Рік тому

Thank you Karen! No cabooses anymore unfortunately. That section with the back to back tunnels has been my all time #1 location to film a train for a few years now. I too was really happy to be able to get the little bit of ground footage for the sound. That's the biggest drawback of flying drones. No audio. For many of us railfans the sounds are a major aspect of what we enjoy about the trains as well so I try to get ground footage for that reason when I can. We knew about the GRWCAS a couple days ahead of time which was the reason we chose to go out there this day. The DENLAU we learned about partway through the day during our chase of the GRWCAS so it was a happy accident. One thing I won't admit to many is that we waited for 4 hours for the DENLAU after the GRWCAS left us... One of the longest waits I've ever done but to me it was well worth it.

I was on afternoon shift, and would time my lunch hour so I could sit on the edge of the Hanger roof and the planes would rotate (lift off) right in front of me and begin their climb. I had to stop in the bathroom on my way back into work and wipe the jet fuel off my face. (I have always also loved trains.)

I'll try to get to it at some point. Been working on months of backlog for so long now I am trying so hard to get caught up. He does have good material but to be honest I have a hard time with how extremely oversaturated all his work is. I like shots to look as organic as possible. My preference.
