- Looking for a good magic deck? How about a Mardu Reanimator deck? The objective of this reanimator deck is to immobilize the opponent by destroying all there lands. That's right it's a Reanimator Land destruction deck. This deck could be named Ashen Rider Control or Woodfall Primus Control because theses 2 cards are the corner stone of this deck. They let us control our opponent.

This is one of the best control decks in magic I've seen in a while and it is also one of the funnest control decks. There is nothing better then destroying your opponents lands.

Ive been playtesting this deck quite a bit at the budget version with some modifications:
Funeral charms have been fairly unreliable, and the deck feels better with inquisitons in its place (thoughtseize too much to afford).
Lightning axe is alright to keep in the budget version, since there isnt collective brutality for creature removal.
Cathartic reunion can oftentimes mess up your hand, tormented voice may be a safer option, but havent tested this yet.
Olivia, mobilized for war as a one-off has been pretty amazing, serving as a strong body and has great synergy with lingering souls, by creating 2/2 haste flyers while having a discard outlet.
Having 2 wear//tear and 2 rakdos charms seem good enough for artifact hate. 1 or 2 boardwipes seem fine here (i use sweltering suns as a cheap anger of the gods).
This deck also seems to be able to opt for a more midranged path. Havent properly tested but so far, gurmag anglers performed fairly well (i have 2 in sb). Currently trying to find a place for hammer of purphoros.
Added in a couple of Noxious revival into a super budget version of the deck and it has really helped the consistency. Super fun deck.
I can see that. Letting you bounce your reanimation or draw spells. Cool idea.
Finally got this sleeved up in paper, ajani vengeant in as alternate win con/land destruction flavour.
Subbed in Tech Edge for Ghost Quarter though, since Ghost Quarter goes against the land destruction theme by giving them a free basic.

Sundial of the Infinite + Footsteps of the Goryo lol, Was watching this for a deck idea, and I saw footsteps and thought of sundial instantly. keep the big toby on the field instead of the sac at end of turn.

Ideas on putting Nahiri in place of Lingering Souls? Maybe even add 1 Emrakul instead of 1 of the Elesh Norn
if you are thinking Emrakul the aeons torn it wont work sadly. It gets shuffled back into the deck as soon as it hits the grave and we don't have instant speed reanimation. If you are thinking Emrakul, the Promised End i'd say Meh, because it does nothing on ETB which we need with Footsteps.
Giant Monster Games I was thinking adding the nahiri/emrakul package as another win con and another discard outlet with nahiri. Now I realize it takes away from the idea of the deck. Thank you
If you're adding $$$ cards I think the obvious substitution for Elesh Norn is Griselbrand. You can still draw 7-14 off him with Footsteps and then you're discarding 1-8 cards at EOT to fuel the next turn.
At that point though you start thinking about Through the Breach and Goryo's Vengeance and when you do that you're just sliding back towards the more common (and pricey) version of this deck.
Since the main purpose of running guttural response is for anti-counterspells, would ricochet trap be a good alternative (since its cheaper)?
Unfortunately no because if you are using it to counter a counterspell it will not work. The card reads change the target of the blue spell. So when you target the counterspell you have to change it's target and it cant target itself. So you need a 3ed spell on the stack to make it work.
I was thinking it can change target to ricochet trap itself while its on the stack, to fizzle the counter
Would you add, say, Hazoret's Favor to this to give haste to your Footsteps'd creatures?
Naw i think it is too slow. Also the objective is to kill your opponents lands so they cant do anything rather then win with big fast creatures.
I'm testing this deck hard on cocatrice, I think Iona is a good card in main deck.

This is a sweet deck but I'd really re-think the number of Lightning Axe you have in MB. I get that it's a discard outlet but only if there's a creature in play and with the way a lot of Modern decks are going right now, at least on MTGO, there aren't many decks where you'd have a target, or if you have a target one that you're likely dead/close to it anyway.
I really think you'd be better off with Thoughtseize. I realize that's not a budget option but a lot of people forget you can target yourself with Thoughtseize to discard a card and that's if it's suitable. It's still fantastic disruption.
+Paul M I think your probity right about Thoughtseize. The disruption outweighs the removal.
Giant Monster Games I think it worth a shot especially since in your build you take less damage from your land and in a pinch you can target yourself to pitch a card.

I didn't mention it in the deck tech but you could try and run
Terastodon in place of Woodfall Primous.
Brian Okafor I had some luck with hornet queen and you can go up to 4 Monstrosity there's nothing wrong with reanimating 8/8 tramplers.
I don't think this is exactly answering your question but Sundering Titan tends to be at least cheaper than Woodfall Primus. It obviously has the very real chance of destroying all of your lands too, but it can function as a bit of an Armageddon.
Hey, maybe this is the kind of deck where Waste Not can shine as an alternative engine in case of graveyard hate.
EDIT: I'm a fucking idiot. Waste Not only works with the opponent. So either you start loading up on burning inquiry, Dark Deal and the like or nevermind

Is it just me that would rather play esper gifts? I think that would be more consistent and you can have a high reanimator theme, or add a lot more disruption (counterspells/inquisition/path) because you don't need to run that many creatures.
There are other reanimator decks, this is not the only option. The esper gifts version is fun but it's it's own deck.
Giant Monster Games I understand... It's just that if I were to play a reanimator deck, I think that one with more consistancy and disruption would be more viable. It also might be affordable due to modern masters 2017.
in the videos consistency does not seem like an issue and this deck is trying to do things on t3 to mess up the opponent and esper is trying to mess up opponent's on t5 with end of turn gifts on t4 untap t5 unburial for a game ender.so in short looks much faster but its end game is less powerful. neither seems better than the other.
Lawrence Daniels I actually like esper gifts. that being said one thing this deck has is what i like to call Rouge appeal. when you opponent has no idea what you are doing or what to play around gives you an advantage. plus it's so fun to jam cards that never see the light of day .
Esper Gifts may be more consistent but it's almost always slower. Being able to put a 5/5 Trampler while destroying 2 opposing lands on turn 3 will win games that Esper Gifts might lose. I'm not saying this is a better deck, I'm just saying there are definite "Pros" to this deck over Esper Gifts.

It's all good, no harm was done. For Fridays video I tried to slow down a bit, so let me know what you think. Have you built the hunted Orb deck in paper? I think making ti black and White is the best way to go with it. I will be revisiting it with some upgrades at some point.

I was very tempted to make the hunted orb deck since I am huge nerd for demons .=. But I did order your Aristocrats deck today :3 It has such nice alternatives. And I like it a lot.
