Thank you, yes no show collector stuff here. On the job everyday. I try to stay clean and organized but the tools make me my living. I do take care of them and am proud of them but they are used and worked.

I really like your set up. Expensive stuff where you need it. Less expensive stuff where you don't. All looks used but well taken care of.
Also, your dad's old box is awesome. Yeah, it's not much different than the one you bought, but there's just something about Dad or Grandpa's old tools.

Agreed, I was in his shop with him when he bought it. Was the first bigger box sold in our hometown. My box is not an anniversary edition but I put some vinyl and pinstripes on it in places to make them match more. I would sell mine before I sold his

Pretty cool. I have my fathers kr1000 as well. He bought it brand new in 1990 if i recall. Top and bottom. And a kr1000 bottom and side cab sitting next to it he bought a few years ago. He passed away back in February. The original box he bought new will go to my son when he is old enough to use them. I have my own tools and boxes and i have all my grandfathers tools and box. Multiple generations of auto and heavy truck mechanics.

I have OCD and love watching tool box tours but yours is the first that looks like a real technicians. I have my grandfathers KRA-300 toolbox and my fathers KR560 & K537 boxes still that I will never get rid of when though they’re not ideal anymore.

    • @behindthewrench9239

Always keep the classics. In my humble opinion I think the older 80's 90's boxes are built way better than the new ones.

The best tool box tour I have ever seen. You cant ever replace sentimental. Pops tools are so special. I just purchased a Mr. Big and I am proud to own that after 45 years of being a heavy truck mechanic. It was my dream box. I am to old to buy this but my love for mechanic work is still my passion. Yes I also love tools. With all that said I think your boxes are much better than any shiny box, including my own. Really like the overheads you made. Just a pleasure to watch this.

The thing is... Snap On tools aren't physically stronger than generic brand tools. I learned that early in my career. I broke a Snap On socket on a Honda B16 head studs. That's pathetic. Snap On aren't invincible like everyone says. I've yet to break any Taiwan tools, and I'm not saying they're superior. What I am saying is, it's like playing the lottery. The only reason Snap On and Matco cost more is because they deliver as-needed to shops, and they're made in the US (cost greatly increased).

As a guy that does diesel, structural steel and earthmoving even after only 5 or 6 years my gear is all dinged and scratched up, some discolored from heat or with spatter or grind-off marks, everything plastic or rubber is faded, stained or rubbed down from cleaning off grease, chemset and so forth.
Not even all from the job so much; but when your tools follow you in the truck they take a beating all down the road, or when you chuck them in a bucket together and climb 10 storeys, or when you throw them in a loader bucket and they go for a bouncy ride, that'll wear tools faster than you or I can.
Anyway great set-up you've got, appreciated.

I love your set up! I really like how your toolboxs are old school. My home toolbox is a old Waterloo bottom and old Waterloo made NAPA branded top full of my Automotive tools. Then I also a smaller black Taskforce usa made toolbox that is becoming my woodworking box as I use that stuff alot and like having a dedicated box for both my hobbies. I really like your rollcart as well. I wanna get a small basic roll cart for my DIY use.

Been a technician for 30 years and my boxes are units made in 98. Now way would I pay what new boxes are going for today. Plenty of clean used Matco, SnapOn, and Mac boxes on Facebook Marketplace and other sites. Let someone else pay the depreciation on new boxes. I’ll spend the difference on things that appreciate in value.
