Yes I need these thanks for the how to videos tfs ‼️‼️
Happy to help. Yes Iris are beautiful plants.
awesome tips, we dont grow these yet but would love to start
They are so worth it. Happy Gardening.
Your irises look great growing next to the fence. Such wonderful shades of purple.
Yes that was a great spot for them. The Dutch Iris are in another area. Thanks for watching.
@@MarlenesHomeandGarden My pleasure. The more varieties of irises you grow the longer bloom time you have :)
Awesome always connect you
Lovely view nice top Happy!
They are easy to plant and maintain
Oh I didn't know that about the roots!
Hello from my little corner to yours
I can not pick a favorite flower, but irises are definitely up there! It is great to see you upload once more :)! Question, why can't I plant the iris deep in the ground since it grows so tall?
Thanks for watching Jared. If you plant them too deep the roots get smothered. They like to breathe. ☺
These are always a great addition to any garden. Can they be used as potted plants as well to add to a porch or balcony? Keep up the great job.
Yes they can if the containers are large. They need a minimum of 6 hrs of full sunshine. So no shaded area. Happy gardening and thanks for watching Yard Boi.
I was just thinking about you Christmas gift guide ideas for 2012 my sweet friend
Oh my goodness. I was just putting some items together. This has to be a confirmation that I should do it soon. Thanks Tamekia.
I am looking at one right now
Hope you get a few.
❤❤❤❤
Beautiful Iris plant 🪴 I love the colour thanks for sharing Marlene..
You are very welcome Classieandra.
Love the color, very royal and calming. Really beautiful flower..good idea to keep those small bugs and pests off as they can affect other plants in garden. Good idea to clear roots when they get more mature. It is good for garden.
Thanks Bruce. Have a great weekend.
If you are in the desert you want to put the rhizome completely underneath the soil and we don't have great soil here and they grow fabulously I do feed them in February
We had Iris's in our last home, and they were so beautiful, but after the spring they were kind of an eye sore. Do you cut them back after that?
Yes I have to cut them back once the leaves start turning yellow. That's usually late Spring for me though. Because the roots are big they can be cut back at an earlier stage compared to Daffodils etc.
Hey new friend here for support
Lovely video. Do you recommend planting in fall, or can I also plant them in spring? What type of sun exposure do they like?
I was reading how iris' can handle swampy conditons, as I'm looking for flowers that can handle parts of my garden that tend to flood during winter. -Thoughts?
Thanks :-)
Welcome! Bearded Iris have fleshy roots called rhizomes. Putting them in soggy areas can lead to root rot. I would try Japanese Iris for such area. See my previous video for a deep dive on Bearded Iris. Convratularions and Happy Gardening.

@@MarlenesHomeandGarden Thanks!
I live in zone 9 how do I care for the Iris after growing season. Mine are not too happy right now. Lots of dead leaves that won’t snap off.
If you've had them for a while you may need to lift out some of the rhizomes. Trim the leaves and stems all the way back in late summer. Also from my experience they need at least 6 hrs of sun and they don't bloom until 2 Springs after planted. Good Luck with your Iris.
What I do in cold weather with snow? I can storage all rhizomes ?
They should be fine in the ground for growing zones 5 to 9. Colder zones can try Japanese Iris. They need to stay in the ground for best blooms. You can cover with mulch in late Autumn but remove after danger of frost has passed in Spring. Happy gardening.
When do u cut ur irises down shorten the tall leaves or do u just leave them alone
I cut them down in mid August because by then they would have gathered enough food on their leaves from photosynthesis and they can become unsightly. Good luck with your Iris plants.
It's a plant that someone gave me some years ago and it never bloomed and I don't know what to do with it. Thanks
Oh I see. Try putting it in different area with morning sun only and see if that helps if you like. It usually takes about 2 years for blooms. Best wishes. 😊
@@MarlenesHomeandGarden thanks will try. Blessings
Im not sure why my iris is sagging. The leaves and the flower’s stem will sag to the ground I have a post holding the beautiful blooms up. It’s awesome plant but I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong with it… I hope it doesn’t die😭
I hope it doesn't. There are a few possibilities. They may need to be divided if older plants. Too much plant food or shade. Too much mulch or poor drainage. Hope they start doing well soon. ☺
I have the plant but it does not have a real rhizome?
Welcome to my channel RoseBrad. If you have a plant in soil it should have the rhizome. Is it cut flowers that you have, because the rhizomes anchor the plants in the ground. Best wishes with your garden.
Does this flower scentless..??
Yes it is but so pretty.
@@MarlenesHomeandGarden thanks a lot for your information 🙏🌿🙏
I've had Iris flowers that smell amazing when they bloom. It's a very sweet scent. The leaves themselves though don't give off a scent.
wow that looks like something a privileged person would have
They don't cost too much. Available on Amazon and other online stores.
