I am trying to locate a large digital hertz display that will tell me at a glance which frequencies I am using on my synth.

Can it take in audio and animate things based on sound, or do I need to buy a separate module? I want to use this live while DJing.

Hypno's 3.5mm front panel jacks take in +-5v from a eurorack modular system to control the main panel controls. Unless you're using modular gear with these voltage outputs, you'd require some sort external module, like an envelope follower to take incoming audio and modulate Hypno's parameters.
