I post all of the music I make, including WAV stems; sample packs; Dirtywave M8 song bundles; collections of video textures; early access to videos; and a whole pile of other stuff on Patreon. I know I know, I hate doing this as well, but if you like what I do and want to get more of it, while also helping me offset some of my ludicrous gear purchases, this is the best place to do it:

You have almost single-handedly pulled me into the video synthesis rabbit hole. Great video sir!
I am so sorry haha.
i'm an artist, and my mind is blowing right now! a new art medium i've never heard of! what *is* this?!?!?!
Yasss! Glad I could help introduce you to this stuff. :)
Gosh darn you. I had never encountered the idea of video synthesis before and now I want. As I always say, "It ain't the heat. It's the cupidity."
I'm sorry. Another rabbit hole to tumble down!!
This feels like the first real eurorack video gear review to me which ive been patiently waiting for. I hope there are many more to follow from you and lots of others follow in your footsteps.
I am trying very hard not to build a video modular!!
@@StephenMcLeod if ppl start sending you modules you wouldn’t have a choice!
Fantastic bit o kit, and the pairing with the M8 is super slick and powerful.
It's excellent!
The video synth looked pretty interesting. Your jumper on the other hand is fantastic.
I am quite fond of the jumper.
Fantastic overview! I just purchased a Hypno and am just getting into video synthesis after being into audio synths for "a while" :) Love your look BTW
Hey thanks a lot! I appreciate the comment and kind words. Good luck with the video synth adventures!!!
Weird and wonderful...and thats just yer jumper! Great video!!!
I need more jumpers like this!
Been GASSING for this for a WHILE now
I apologise for throwing fuel on the fire!
Self contained?! MIDI control?! 🤯 Thanks for making this man, this thing is awesome, so many possibilities! 😎🐀
It is excellenty!
YESSSS I use my hypno all the time it's truly my favorite pi-based video synth ! Rlly shines when u can get it thru an old mixer or a glitcher ! Hmmm u could add a little gieskes schele mixer to that lil setup for portable glitch !
OH also u should checkout the creative cauldron mainbow eurorack viz synth ! I rlly want one but can't swing it rn and I bet you'd love it.
Don't tell me about more video eurorack gear!! I am trying very hard not to start a whole video Euro setup haha.
Purchased straight away! thanks
Nice one! I hope you love it too.
This company, Im looking at their site, holy hellfire!!! The midi sequencer looks rather interesting too. Thanks for sharing!
They certainly make some cool stuff!
just got one, looking forward to play with it
Nice!!!
your studio is the dream!
It's a special place!
0:28 nice :). That are some cool visuals.
:D
I’ve been wanting to get into video synthesis for a while but have no idea where to start. This is dope
It's a good place to start! Though if you aren't careful it can quickly become another... collection.
@@StephenMcLeod biggest mistake I’ve ever made was getting an adult income. Collection it is.
Thanks for the informative video. Hypno looks like a more powerful tool than I assumed. Have you played with a Structure yet?
GO FULL ANALOG!!...........Get yourself a kaleidoscope, a camera (small enough to see into the kaleidoscope) and a servo ( to rotate the kaleidoscope tip)........Connect midi to the servo and BOOM!! real analog effects
That would certainly be a cool idea.
I've been thinking about gifting myself one of these for quite some time, and really appreciated hearing your thoughts on it. Especially hearing that it is a good, self-contained, and capable package for trying out video synthesis focused on live performance, which is what I want. So yeah, thanks a lot!
Also watching your closet organ tour series after hearing you on the almost viral podcast, and what a treat that is!
Would also be interested to see how you've set up the korg nanokontrol as a midi controller for video.
Hey! Thanks for watching (arguably far too much of me). The NanoKontrol I've been using as a controller for the Andrei Jay Waaave Pool, which also runs on a Pi, but... it would also work great for Hypno. You could map the different controls to various parameters and have a really compact solution.
@@StephenMcLeod arguably, haha. Thanks for the reply, will be trying that out when I've saved up for the Hypno.
@@StephenMcLeodSince you mention it, I’d love to see a demo of the Waaaave Pool. After I got Hypno (so brilliant!) I tried to set up Waaabe Pool with my NanoKontrol, and it’s a little wonky. Would love to see a working system do its thing. Assuming you take requests. 😄
It's on the list! Though I am not sure I understand it well enough to do it justice.@@retrothing
@@StephenMcLeod Ahh… so I’m not the only one. 😁
I was going to bust out Hypno over the holidays to hook it up to other things - thus far I’ve just been molding with it as-is, but your demo of the interoperability of gear is inspiring me to greater ambitions. I found an early Ableton Launchpad at a thrift shop for $5. I really should work out how to make them talk, right?
The Hypno is amazing! I've used it for so many projects I have the DIY version and it is amazing
It is excellent!
Hair looks good mate 😊
Why thank ye!
I need that sweater!
Thank you! It is a good un.
@@StephenMcLeodSold out everywhere 🥲
looks cool, I remember trying to get true 240p out of a pi a nightmare, have you tried it on your crt's?
I usually just use an HDMI to AV adapter now as I have them already set up and ready to roll.
Question here.
How does it integrate with video in and outputs? Are there ways to for example send this trough a roland edirol v4 or to have this playback already made video footage what isn't high resolution?
You can load videos into it via USB and manipulate them that way... or you can stream video from an external source. Depending on the model of Pi, you will either have a dedicated analog output, or you can use a breakout cable. I personally just run the HDMI out and use a converter box for that. :)
I loved your eye at 8:33
Haha the angle of the camera, lens, and my glasses made my eyes look real weird in this.
Your sweater is so cool
Thank you. I am particularly proud of it tbf.
Still using Milkdrop 3.2 here. Looks amazing with very little CPU usage. Also trying out Resolume, which makes everything else look like child’s play.
Resolume looks awesome, though pretty spenndy.
@@StephenMcLeod Resolume is absurdly fun and looks insanely cool, but if you’re not making money from VJ’ing it’s kind of a pointless purchase.
like most of my purchases haha@@Subtronik
Fun!!!
Price?
I don't usually include prices in videos because they are so volatile, and the pricing depends on where you live/what shipping/tax is included, etc. You can find the latest costs with the options at sleepycircuits.com/hypno
Please be careful the hypno appears to be shortening your hair on use. Great vid thanks for sharing!
It must be the CRT radiation.
really sad they removed the analog video jack
It's a shame that it was taken off of the Raspberry Pi for sure. You can still get an analog output from some of the models if you use some kind of adapter though. I think TRRS from the headphone jack? They are all wired slightly differently though, so finding the right one is the tricky bit.
The analogue video output from the 3.5mm jack can be enabled with an edit to config.txt in the boot partition on a Pi Model B. You need a TRRS cable as Stephen says.
the change happened because they surprise discontinued PI CM3 round 2020
nice... now I can avoid those overpriced video modules.... this thing seems to do it all
It is pretty great
