One of my first knives was an unbranded "gas station" butterfly knife that I bought as a teenager. I carried it a lot and I still have it with me in my collection. The blade is full of scratches and even burn marks. Fun times
I really appreciate a video like this from a big knife distributor like blade hq and think it’s good for opening up the Bali community to more people. However I see some room for improvement in the list and video that I think should be corrected.
1. even though the vulp doesn’t have a latch you can still know where the bit handle is due to the bottle opener. Latches also tremendously improves flipping and the vulp comes with tunable bushings and extra hardware meant for learning and beginners.
2. If you buy anything from boker you will be severely disappointed with quality control and durability of the knife. The knives don’t hold tolerances and aren’t regarded very well in the community.
3. The Luchas are way to heavy to flip and have to be modded to make them flippable so not good for beginners. Carbon fiber Luchas also held together with a pin sooo…not good have fun prying your $300 knife apart.
4. Just…don’t buy from bear and sons…just pls don’t. If your going to drop 120 on a knife get something from bbarfly, glidr or squid even if you have to wait. Squids stuff is mostly in stock all the time. Just…no bear and sons.
5. In my personal opinion buying a live blade as your first Bali is dangerous especially if you don’t know how to treat a regular pocket knife. I highly recommend getting a trainer. If it gets you into the hobby trust me it won’t be the last knife you buy. Get a live further down your flipping journey.
Great advice! -Jim
I agree with this list, as far as beginners go i would still flip live blade just not super sharp off the bat. I’d just have something sharp enough to Nick you but not enough to give you stitches til you get better
Thank you for the info 🗡👍
This is great! didnt feel like an ad... now I might have to get that christmas edition Nabalis Vulp
Glad to hear you liked it! -Jim
Looking forward to flipping more knives with you soon!🙌🏽🔪
coming from a flipper... if you're a beginner, just buy a vulp.
definitely
Yeah, you get to see if you like flipping or not and if you dont then you didnt spend that much money from the start.
I heard the new Marcolo Comet is better
Or the artsea wave
As a beginner. Yes Vulp is awesome. I have a Naut now but i sometimes pick up my vulp.
I’m new to balisongs and I recently got a Glidr arctic 2 and I would definitely recommend it. It flips super smooth and is on bushings.
its cool to see more affordable live blade options compared to a couple years ago where you had to start out at like $200 to get one that was good
As a person who just got interested in butterfly knives, and is learning what I can- I'll consider some of these in my mind as options to get when I feel like I TRULY like, truly wanna get a butterfly knife trainer and staring doing cool tricks with it
I enjoyed this video!!! Brought me back to the early years 🔪 🔪going to have to get that trainer to practice now
As a flipper, get the vulp, avoid the bear and sons/bear ops, cf lucha isn’t really worth it, I’d recommend the regular lucha with the aftermarket aluminum channel handles and the tali is always a good choice but is a little harder to get
Tali is also $300
I really want the “Christmas” Vulp. The different color handles tells you which is the bite handle which will make learning new tricks so much easier.
Tomas has been such a great addition to the videos!
We have absolutely loved having him here! -Jim
This is an amazing video and I hope you can make more videos about butterfly knives.
I just started looking at getting a trainer this week. Awesome video guys.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! -Jim
I just recently got the Kershaw ‘Moonsault’ Balisong Butterfly Knife Stainless Steel (4.6" Stonewash), and it’s totally my favorite now, because of how it feels when it’s in my hand, and it makes it so easy to open and close!🔪👍
We figured we already had a Kershaw on the table, but the Moonsault is awesome too! We haven't had much time with it yet, it's pretty new, but thanks for the mini review! We'll have to get it in the pocket a bit more. -George
Nice I'm looking for one right now so Thanks !
Hope this video helps you choose a good one! -Jim
The Lucha is a fun knife that's great if you're like me, not a big bali guy but a big knife guy and want to have one good example of a functional balisong knife. But I can't imagine flipping it for fun without changing out the handles. Incidentally, that's exactly what I did, haha. But I also bought another one and left it stock, I like the knife that much.
I'm going to try one of the Squiddies, specifically the black one with the noise reducing hardware. I might actually learn something if I have a non knife to practice the motion with now and again. Main reason I don't really do it that often is people don't like it when you flip and spin a knife around, but the Squid looks nothing like a knife at all.
Very sad being in Canada not being able to have a live blade
Damn balisong knives! ❤️
Benchmade 42 Bali-Song is my favorite!
The Spyderco Baliyo ink pen would have been an interesting addition to the discussion. :-)
I've had the kershaw balisong forever one of the most trusted brands I've ever used super durable and it would not become loose
I'm surprised you guys didn't talk about or include the new bali from Schrade... the alkymest!!!!! Its budget friendly.... and flips really well..... great entry bali.
Always gotta have your man's back when y'all are trying to do some back and forth
It has been pointed out that the Vulp is on bushings. We apologize for getting that wrong in the video! -Jim

And for our last beginner bali we have a 10lb lucha with a razor sharp double sided dagger blade sitting atop two 20lb handles and for the ultra pros 6 latches to help you be flippy with the knive. The 6th latch doubles as a self defense blunt force object.
I love all the Bali songs from you guys and I just wanted that 77th comment
Is this a hobby for people that like cutting themselves to begin with, by chance? Flipping around a real blade like this seems like absolute madness,.
Lol true flippers start with live blades.
A good balisong....a maxace, think they have a few. Maxace usually has a premium bali, and a sandwich less expensive bali, released during the year.
The Squiddy Al is also a very inexpensive knife that still gives you the nice metallic feel of a more expensive knife.
how does this video has only 550 likes? this video is a really high quality video
How would you compare Boker Plus Papillon and Kershaw Lucha? Is Lucha worth 2x the price of the Boker in your opinion? How both of them are suitable for flipping?
The Vulp is on bushings, not bearings.
that's what they said
@@XerazoX At 1:58 he says "On washers". Stand by my original statement Vulp on bushings.
They called the vulp a washer knife, but it’s a big deal that it’s on bushings!
„Just buy both they’re not that expensive” in my country every single of that is 5 times more expensive
You know they're beginners when they think a latch is a pro
The nebulis vulp is Sharp??😮
Do the The double flapper
Im only like 2 minutes into the video, but why is the boker papillon look like a CCC of a kershaw lucha balisong? (Cheap Chinese Copy)
"... just get both. They're not that expensive."
Wife has entered the chat.
Why do they always throw the smallest blade HQ shirt on George?! Lmao
he rly said v i i i lmao
"nice channel zinc" is now my favorite cursed sentence
Very nice as long as you don’t drop it
You want a weight between the vulp and the lucka
Papillon is butterfly 😁👍
The vulp is on bushings
Ebays way cheaper and they still work fine
The vulp is on bushings, not just washers
That boker looks alot like a lucha
The dude on the right sounds like Batman!
Vulp is not washers. Its bushings which are washers but can be tightened super hard without losing swing
The spy has already breached our defences.
“for beginners” proceeds to sell you a $300 training knife
MARCOLO COMET is good
“This one has a latch so you can practice flipping and weight balance distribution” that does this even mean lol. From a flipper just buy a vulp. It’s made by a flipper in the community and it’s cheap.
WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE
😂бренд
Quality costs money. Nothing worth owning is cheap
I think I did something wrong. Now I only have 9 fingers. 😢
I definitely wouldn't recommend a Lucha to a beginner, it's fast, heavy, and hard to control. It is a good balisong, but not a great dedicated flipper. I do think it's a GREAT knife for someone who is a bit more advanced, with multiple flippers- A few hours with a Lucha will make your flippers feel that much easier to manipulate and change directions with.
Unfortunately the advice you gave was not the best and it shows that you do not flip regularly. If anyone is looking to get into balisong flipping and wants one off of this list just buy the vulp. If you are going to spend $150 or more on a balisong go for BRS, SquidIndustries etc. If you have any questions just comment and I can answer them.
Ik I am a year late but I am a beginner and I am considering nabalis canyon stainless steel balisong false edge. I want to know if it's a good knife.
@@saivishwath3773 kinda late😂, and to your question: idk much about knives so I cant really help you, but definitly go for it💯🔥
This is such a lets a see paul allens knife moment
He even said that nice like bateman
You have to be carefull that's a rookies mistake. Just let it go instead on bringing it to your body
I jut bought a crkt ritual and had no. Idea ow sharp it is. I am a knife fighter and dropped the knife it cut through my leg and stuck into my leather couch this is not a complaint at all! As I said I love Filipino martial arts and 5 stitches is the stuff this is a nasty knife
Bear and sons = temu carrot bali
4:28 🤣👉🏻
Please don't listen to them about the Kershaw it's comes sharp as ever, I have 5+ cuts from the exact same knife 😅
It may not be expensive but it's still too much for me to buy.... :(
Dessert warrior trainer??
Anything is possible! -Jim
good way to lose a knife with that balihoo setup.
You would be allergic to zinc.
🫵🏾😎
It’s pronounced pap-i-on it’s French
Good to know! -Jim
beginners telling beginners what is good 🤔
All except vulp are bad for their price......
Papillon literally means “butterfly” you numbskulls 😂
That makes a lot of sense! I suppose I could have just Googled that before the video... Thanks for helping us out on that one! -George
Lucha is a bad beginner knife get a kraken
I wish we could hear the sound of the knives, rather than that DULL bed track that everybody needs like a hole in the head...
guy on the left is cringe
yeah this vid is a miss
Learn another language, French, Spanish or even Pig Latin... or take a minute before your shoot to find out how to honor your product providers and learn how to pronounce their product names. Act like a professional presenter not the guy down the street. It ain't cute. Geeze.
Very gracious and Christian of you you old fart. Sorry we don’t work like it’s 1950 anymore.
74 dollars for beginner? I still dont understand this channels why do i even try to look
papillon means butterfly lol and you said it right when you said it the spanish way lol "pap-ee-yon""
"Differensh" 😂
Papillon is French for butterfly
$150, I better not be getting budget steel!
