yeah, I actually see the result come up a lot of times where pets as gifts do not go well for kids and the animals usually dont have a good ending. Maybe not as much with cats or dogs but its the small animals that more often then not get the short end of the deal when the parents arnt invested. Parents just get them to appease the kid and do little or no research and stuff them in tiny death trap cages because its convenient and looks like a toy so the kids like it. Kids typically looses interest and the animal dies early or gets passed around and neglected further tell it dies. I mean, its not always the case, but its way to common.
There's a lot of cases even for cats and dogs where like a month after Christmas the animal gets sent to a shelter because it was a cute Christmas gift but now it's not Christmas anymore so it's not cute. I also think in general it's bad to give an animal as a gift because like, you want a connection with the animal. It's much better when people give Petco gift cards or stuff like that as a Christmas gift, so when things are more settled down the recipient can pick out their own pet and buy the stuff for the pet with the gift card.
Yeah, sadly it's so common that a christmas pet gets abandoned or rehomed a few months into the new year, once people realize it's a commitment and not a cute toy.
I got a guinea pig one year. This was after getting a book about guinea pigs and how to take care of them. @@leelubell9080 I think the issue is that in some places there’s WAY too many stray cats/dogs for shelters to take care of. Well that's why you don't get it as a "surprise" people who do that are just weird. If you're getting a pet, especially a dog you should meet them first to find the one with a temperament that suits you. Though if you're getting your family as a whole a pet that's probably fine, like getting a dog for Christmas with the full knowledge it will be a family dog not a child's personal pet
"Gift" pets are a problem year around- Easter and Christmas being the two big ones. From neglect to abandonment... It doesn't get better. And Chad not knowing this is a good example as to why PSAs and ADs like that one are actually good :) although done *a bit weird* it not only gets your interest to look deeper into it (for some people) but it helps bring more attention to the issue (even if just a little).
Having worked closely in pet care, I can 100% tell you, that ad needs to be aired. So many people gift animals that the recipients have -no idea- and often -no interest- in taking care of. Animals do not make good gifts. No one should be surprised with a living obligation.
I can attest. I was gifted a beta fish some years ago as a surprise gift. Beautiful animal, but they're particular. I was worried I'd accidentally forget to feed it or I'd over-feed it that when someone offered to take it off our hands I agreed. I also had a friend seriously consider getting me a bird a few years ago but I had to insist that they didn't because I wasn't ready for the responsibility.
The Bounty one is an ad for Celebrations, which is a box of tons of small chocolates that you can buy here in the UK. It's making fun of how Bounties are the most unpopular of the bunch. Whenever I've seen a Celebrations tub with most of the chocolates eaten, the leftovers have usually been Bounties.
Surprisingly, as a Serb living in the U.S. (Midwest, Wisconsin) my local supermarket/grocery store (which is employee owned and region exclusive to only having 19 locations compared to Aldi that is worldwide) sells Bounty bars and it was a shocker to me when I found out that they sell them whenever I go grocery shopping. The insane part is that they just went on sale just recently for $0.89 each! (about 0.79 euros, very low and a steal!!) they're very good too and arguably, better than Almond Joy/Mounds bars!
@@coreforce9872 There are plenty of places where they can advertise. I remember as a kid watching cartoons one minute and staying up too late where suddenly GGG started being advertised lol

I'm sure Sam Catania knows all about them at this point Erie just wants the Cursed Commercials fame And you know it's a banger of a Cursed Commercials episode when it has a commercial animated by CarterMac, Furniture Warehouse is just a small piece of what he does
The whole giving people a pet as a gift is a huge problem for any holiday. A lot of times the pet is given up for adoption because the recipients weren't prepared for such a big responsibility. This is a big issue with rabbits on easter as well.
That's true, but the ad was worded as if the kid was aware that she could get a puppy for Christmas. Everyone in the comments assumed it was supposed to be a "surprise gift," but that's not the intention. It sounded more like something she knew about, so that she could be prepared for it, which goes against the message. The message is instead sounds like, "Don't buy a pet at all" rather than, "You should consult with the whole family before making that kinda decision so everyone can be prepared for it." I think the commercial means well, but the message wasn't conveyed properly.
About the pets given as gifts thing...no...they don't turn out well all that often. There are people out there who like to give puppies/kittens as gifts on Christmas and chicks/bunnies as gifts on Easter. A lot of them wind up either in the pound or outright abandoned because they aren't really thought of us long term investments but only as something cute to gawk at for a few hours. It's actually a huge issue.
@@WillieManga True that it can be done in Mugen. I’m referring to making a full game out of the concept, similar to Terrordrome and other fan made products like that.
10:00 - To be fair, they go by the stats of how the number of abandoned kittens, puppies & cats that are abandoned after the holidays, compared to all the rest of the year... 😿
@@WhaleManMan Excuse me? I don't think you are quite grasping the point. Abandoned puppies & kittens at shelters are up 400%-500% after the holidays, thus they make PSAs to try & counter the problem. It's not a scientific study. 🙄
@@WhaleManMan But in this case it is. The families get puppies and kittens for Christmas, the family realizes after a bit that puppies and kittens are like raising furry children and are NOT toys, they get returned to the shelter. Correlation AND causation, hence the importance of PSAs about gifting animals as presents
10:04 actually, I beg to differ. My first cat, Stripes, was a christmas present. Though, when she got bigger, and wasn't a cute kitten anymore, they started abusing her. Kicking her down the stairs, not letting her in the house. Eventually, they moved house. They moved house without her. They left her here. Since she was quite friendly with my dad, we took her in. She was too scared to even go up the stairs. She usually stayed in our garden. She didn't deserve to live in fear. So, these kinds of commercials are incredibly important, more than you know. So, basically, only get a pet if you'll really love it.
Oh my god, that’s horrible. I fucking hate how cats always get the short end of the stick especially in comparison to dogs. It’s not as bad as it was before the internet, but it’s still not great.
FYI on that Bounty ad. In the UK it's a coconut candy bar that comes in a big box of candy, with twix, milky way mars bar and more, called Celebrations. However, no one likes Bounty. Or at least the majority of people don't like it and it's normally the last candy in the box or the last to be eaten. So this ad was just showing Bounty some love ,with another Christmas food that no one likes,Brussels sprouts. Also you can send your bounty bars back because you know, no one likes Bounty.
@@Chrisjbennett89 haha yeah. I mean it's not THAT bad. But it's kinda the thing to hate it. Honestly I'm more suppressed that they had some sort of Bounty return system it's kinda funny.

4:43 *VeggieTales looks a little different since I last watched the series* If the US is too busy running a Santa bootcamp, then they'll be no match for our reckoning. If you're wondering what Rakuten is, it's a Japanese commerce site that lets you shop at over 2,500 stores and gives you Cash Back. How Cash Back works is these chains give Rakuten a commission for sending you their way, and that commission turns into Cash Back.
Chad, the one about not giving pets as a gift is really important. Many people buy pets as gifts and the recipient doesn't keep them long. For Easter, the amount of bunnies that end up released in the wild or brought to shelters rises. For Christmas, its puppies. A few weeks later when they're a pain in the butt to train, have accidents in the house, and grow so they're no longer as cute, they get taken to a shelter. The ad is important to remind people pets are living things and require a lot of attention, money, and responsibility. It's to make people think twice before surprising a loved one with a pet they may not be able to properly care for long term.
Exactly. My local Pets at Home store used to sell rabbits, but they eventually stopped stocking them because of the Easter-related problems. Dumping pets in shelters is bad enough, but the people who release domestic animals into the wild expecting them to magically have wilderness survival skills are even more infuriating. An appropriately cynical adult should not be surprised at all that such PSAs are necessary - saddened, but not surprised. The general public is dumb AF.
@@Whisky-Glass-LassThere needs to be a PSA on why people should not release domesticated animals into the wild. They’re not freeing Willy, they’re sending animals off to their deaths!!!
10:24: It actually is a problem, most holiday pet purchases are made on impulse without thinking about or learning how to care for the animal properly, and as a result end up in a shelter or returned to said shelter, it gets so bad that most shelters have a moratorium on letting people adopt black cats during October.
I have a black cat myself. It was technically a Christmas gift, but I do care about it and give it attention, and I was only given it because it was from a friend's cat. The kittens were being distributed after they grew enough, and I had an older cat before it got too old to go on. Along with the essential care, I do let it rest on me, though granted I wear a thick blanket to avoid getting clawed. All to say that one shouldn't get a pet for their kids, but rather for themselves.
Someone was dressed as Olaf the snowman for some event yesterday, and that was a terrifying costume if only because his mouth was pitch black like the void. If Olaf ate a child they’d be gone, black hole, reduced to atoms

No that one from PN was brilliant. You didn't see it coming they lull you into a false sense of some kind of schmaltzy commercial and BAM, merry wanksmas everyone.
Context for the bounty advert, bounty’s come in a selection box of chocolates (celebrations) which are very popular in the UK around Christmas time but a lot of people hate them since their coconut that’s why the bounty bar was all sad
That's weird I love bounty bars. I never thought they were unpopular and know alot of people who do like them but it always seem 50/50 same either any coconut treat or at least it seems like that in Canada.
@@dubuyajay9964 no they didn't. I went to Quiznos like 2 weeks ago for a sub. They just have WAY less locations. It's a franchise, so there are pockets here and there.
Actually, most pets given during holidays like Christmas, Easter or birthdays end up in shelters soon after or being dumped off somewhere. I used to volunteer at a shelter and grew up on a working farm. You wouldn’t believe the amount of people who grew up believing their parents that farmers want your unwanted cats/dogs, pregnant ones or boxes of litters of them. The amount of half-grown puppies and kittens surrendered around January/February are staggering as are the young chickens/ducks a month or two after April as well as rabbits once people realize way too late rabbits aren’t the best pet for every kid as they can be pretty grumpy when grown. There’s also the huge amount of ‘free’ half grown animal adds around the same time. That’s why a lot of shelters offer an adoption gift card instead, so after Christmas or whatever holiday, the person can go pick a pet they’re far more likely to keep. Giving animals as gifts usually allows people to think of them like toys, when it’s no longer shiny and new, they don’t want it. You give away or throw out toys you no longer want.
The reaction to the RSPCA puppy commercial is so American/North American... "most pets given as gifts turn out okay"... Not true at all. It's actually a serious issue. So many pets, particularly in North America, are adopted and then abandoned as soon as they become inconvenient. Adding a member to your family that requires so much responsibility should never be considered a "gift" to be given. It's responsibility for another living being, and it should at least be considered seriously. You wouldn't give someone a kid as a present, and it's actually pretty similar.
@@italianlovecake I think Chad was only thinking along the lines of parents getting a pet as a gift for their kids instead of the pet being a surprise gift. While it is not always the case, it would be expected that parents who get pets as gifts for their children know what they're getting into.

The Santa claus boot camp commercial reminded me of Terry Tate: Office Linebacker which may be the best commercial I've ever seen eventhough it wasn't a real commercial lol
*"Grandma got run over by a reindeer walking home from our house Christmas Eve, You can say there's no such thing as Santa, but as for me and Grandpa we believe"*
So THAT's what what was! National Lampoon also spoofed that ad with a cover that said "Buy This Magazine or We'll Shoot This Dog" and later "Buy This Box or We'll Shoot This Dog" for a CD audio set later on. I had no idea that it was a parody until just now.
For context, it is SUPER common for animals to be picked up from pounds for christmas, to literally be returned weeks later once the kid gets board or the parents realize how much a pet costs. same happens with easter for bunnies...
The joke of that Bounty ad only works if you know that they are - supposedly - extremely unpopular. "Celebrations" is a popular brand of chocolate tin that people often buy at Christmas containing, amongst other things, Bounty bars, and it's a common joke that they only put those in the tub because people won't buy them when sold separately.
I don't eat dairy stuff anymore but when I did, I somehow remember finding Bounties better than Snickers. Like it wasn't my favourite but people still found that really weird. XD
That Aldi commercial had me cackling when the tomato was chewing off the restraints. And the flame grilling commercial? I’m so concerned Oh my god the Santa commercial. That little song they did? I was dying
My brain: Is that John Cena?! Me: No, this commercial looks old, it can't be John Cena. My brain: Are you sure~? Me: He doesn't even sound like him. My brain: This commercial is old, maybe he isn't using his "John Cena" voice. Me: Just because John Cena looks like a stereotypical drill sergeant doesn't mean every drill sergeant is John Cena. My brain: True... but still looks like John Cena.
There is a LOT that goes into owning a pet. Any pet for that matter. People don’t realize what it takes to raise a puppy, to take care of one and how much money you can and, more often than not, will have to pay. We had to get knee surgery on our dog and the cheapest one was more than $3K
I get the pet ad and appreciate what it wants to do. At least in Lady and the Tramp, despite Lady being a surprise gift for the wife, she was given proper care and stuff afterwards. Of course, that's just a movie but it's an example of how it can turn out ok, so long as you're committed to caring for the pet. Though it's not gonna stop kids from asking for a pet for every occasion. The best you can do there is explain why you can't.
The whole Kevin the Carrot thing was massive in the UK, you could buy plush toys of him and the other characters. I never realised how weird it was until seeing in this context

The Bounty one is an ad for Celebrations, which is a box of tons of small chocolates that you can buy here in the UK. It's making fun of how Bounties are the most unpopular of the bunch. Whenever I've seen a Celebrations tub with most of the chocolates eaten, the leftovers have usually been Bounties.
the same for germany here
And Australia. I personally love them though
Give all those Bounty bars to me. They're literally my favorite chocolate.
Sweden too. I like Bounty, though it is usually the last pick.

The whole giving people a pet as a gift is a huge problem for any holiday. A lot of times the pet is given up for adoption because the recipients weren't prepared for such a big responsibility. This is a big issue with rabbits on easter as well.
The ad was worded wrong tho
That's true, but the ad was worded as if the kid was aware that she could get a puppy for Christmas. Everyone in the comments assumed it was supposed to be a "surprise gift," but that's not the intention. It sounded more like something she knew about, so that she could be prepared for it, which goes against the message. The message is instead sounds like, "Don't buy a pet at all" rather than, "You should consult with the whole family before making that kinda decision so everyone can be prepared for it."
I think the commercial means well, but the message wasn't conveyed properly.
It's actually a huge issue.

correlation is not causation
@@WhaleManMan Excuse me? I don't think you are quite grasping the point. Abandoned puppies & kittens at shelters are up 400%-500% after the holidays, thus they make PSAs to try & counter the problem. It's not a scientific study. 🙄
@@WhaleManMan But in this case it is. What's with the shade towards brussel sprouts, though?

If the US is too busy running a Santa bootcamp, then they'll be no match for our reckoning. If you're wondering what Rakuten is, it's a Japanese commerce site that lets you shop at over 2,500 stores and gives you Cash Back. How Cash Back works is these chains give Rakuten a commission for sending you their way, and that commission turns into Cash Back.
Thanks supreme overlord
The santa bootcamp was from a uk tech company if im not mistaken.
Pets are unfortunately abandoned at an astonishing rate once the actual work to keep a pet kicks in after the holidays.
Honestly the amount of quality in these is genuinely stunning, it's more like a legitimate TV show than a UA-cam series.
Glad I'm seeing a lot of comments echoing this.

Context for the bounty advert, bounty’s come in a selection box of chocolates (celebrations) which are very popular in the UK around Christmas time but a lot of people hate them since their coconut that’s why the bounty bar was all sad

@PestoMayo They reminded me of a thing from Goosebumps that had scared the hell out of my when I was 5 lmao. might've been fine if not for that
Actually, most pets given during holidays like Christmas, Easter or birthdays end up in shelters soon after or being dumped off somewhere.
Maybe we just need better education because that is the most obvious thing I've ever heard.
humans are so disgusting
The reaction to the RSPCA puppy commercial is so American/North American... "most pets given as gifts turn out okay"... Not true at all. It's actually a serious issue. So many pets, particularly in North America, are adopted and then abandoned as soon as they become inconvenient. Adding a member to your family that requires so much responsibility should never be considered a "gift" to be given. It's responsibility for another living being, and it should at least be considered seriously. You wouldn't give someone a kid as a present, and it's actually pretty similar.
Those poor babies :(
Arent most puppies/ dogs gifts anyway?
This isn't specifically an "American/North American" problem or response, it happens world wide.

@@italianlovecake I think Chad was only thinking along the lines of parents getting a pet as a gift for their kids instead of the pet being a surprise gift. While it is not always the case, it would be expected that parents who get pets as gifts for their children know what they're getting into.
