    1) If I am what I have and I have nothing anymore than I am not.2) Verbs are human activities which cannot be lost or destroyed. 3) Being is that which is sacred, being is life. 4) Man will prevent his self destruction. 5) Each person has his own aura. His own authentic self. People can distinguish that which comes from the real person.6) We repress the knowledge of the truth. We know much more than we admit.

      Specie Extinction eradicates the particular point of view of experiencing reality of knowing truths in the universe for ever, in exchange of commodity goods that stiffle human spirit, destroy by extraction and pollute by disposal.

    It's wonderful to feel the humor in him! I found myself relaxing and being drawn in and sharing it and feeling impishly happy.

    Pascal said we are unhappy cause we can't be by ourselves with our distractions....is this the "having" mode?

      If we would be by ourselves then where would the distractions be?
      If we would be by ourselves then where would happiness be?
      Society through culture has created all of your happiness and distractions. As soon as you finish with one your mind wonders for another. It never stops.

    At least Fromm is understandable as opposed to philosophers, Kant, Hegel, etc.

    Has anyone ever known someone who lives in the "to be" mode?

    • @florinmoldovanu
      @florinmoldovanu 9 місяців тому

      anyone is in a state of being except humans.
      Such a state can not be proven or verified. There are many charlatans out there claiming to be enlightened.
      I think you might find value in UG Krishnamurti's recordings of which are many around. (Not Jiddu Krishnamurti)

      @@florinmoldovanu "Any one is in a state of being except humans"? So a chicken or a cow is living in the " to be" mode? It never occurred to me to follow a chicken or a cow.

      @@hanskung3278 Mind si your identity. and mind has been created by culture and so is your identity and hence strengthened your separation from life which is one. The biological body uses the mind and only responds and adapts to the environment. Mind anchored in identity has created an artificial reality called thought. Thought comes out of this thought sphere in which all of humanity is trapped. There is no way out of it through your own volition as this only adds movement to thought... and since thought is not yours you also have no free will.
      Greed can not exist without an identity to which things can be attached to. Well fed animals go for a nap. Humans are trapped by the mind and are always on the lookout for more things to add to themselves. Yes, cows and chicken are in this state of being. They respond to the environment and they nurture their bodies without thinking too much of the future. Religion has created a sharp distinction between animals an man which still pervades scientific thought however this hardly is the truth. Greed can be found in more evolved mamals and not only. Monkeys can be greedy and so other species that have developed more complex brain structures.
      This being state is nothing "special" but it's impossible to achieve with the mind . . through the mind. Mind is completely severed from reality, it has created a "virtual reality" in which it lives. For example you might know what a strawberry is but if you never tasted it that knowledge is useless. Look at the root word for knowledge and you will find it comes from repetition. We are robots repeating stuff that has been programmed into our brains by society and "knowledge" separates us from experience.

      I'm sure if Erich Fromm did not have the great career and renown he did, he would feel different - likely worse about his sense of self. There are many who try to achieve but fail in their attempts. Fromm, along with Krishnamurti and all other respected thinkers, regularly conducted interviews, and had acclaim amongst followers. They sold books with their faces on the covers and until their deaths enjoyed the position of profound thinkers. For them to suggest a human should not derive their sense of self from these external rewards and societal positions feels dishonest. They were not invisible as most people are. They were not swallowed up by the void of masses who have few achievements outside of their tiny, oftentimes devalued roles in the world.
