I can’t decide if I am comforted or alarmed by the similarities with our current situation. We are probably in a worse situation now because the voices of ignorant people are amplified. Simple slogans and half baked ideas are easy for uneducated people to understand and we have more uneducated people than we had in 60s.
Ok,just started with philosophy. Can someone please shed light on my issue please. In this day and age,I am being denied the right to know if my father is alive or dead(over 4 years now).I have contacted many, many lawyers ,not one could answer the question for me.I do not trust social services.I have had to contol my self from contacting the police(I know I will be blamed for whatever and the issue will not be solved). What would you do?Please, any suggestions,I really can not cope
In my opinion, one cannot discuss "man" without awareness of the type of society the individual lives in. Emphasis on the individual in the field of psychology--regardless of the type of approach--will not make any sense; However, such emphasis ignores or denies the importance of "universals" in an analysis. Recognition and understanding of the societal factor (family, socioeconomic class, work, political thinking, education, etc) gives a far richer and complete picture of the individual in relation to the universals established by Fromm vis-a-vie the correlative understanding of the societal factor
The fear is that the masses collude with the irrational through manipulation, peer pressure, intimidation and empty promises of dignity and plenty. As happened in Germany. Obviously that didn't end well. It'll happen again.
Fromm is at least half a century ahead of his time as usual.
What a great man.Its sad that he's not more widly know.Read his books. The Art of Love. The Art of Being. There many more.
Fromm's writings are an anathema to the pyschopths that despise our humanity
*Real democracy is impossible within capitalism:*
*The big capital controls politicians, parties, the media, what we know, think and vote for.*

I'm alarmed rather than comforted.

Fascinating that the intellectual defenders of democracy are concerned and fearful of "the masses". 🤨🤔🤪🤣

It was a nice conversation but the man who had a rising intonation as opposed to a falling one at the end of every word sounded extremely unpleasant.
That's all you got from the conversation?
