? Why does this predictable, ordinary solo "need to be heard"? It's routine, run of the mill, nothing special or original. Ray was a fine studio musician on albums by people like Stanley Clarke, but a solo artist he ain't.

Check out his serious jazz-rock chops on several Nemperor and Columbia albums as a side-man. You'll find some solid playing. On this record, he decided to be a hard-rock solo star. Well, there are plenty of folks out there that can blow just like him - so if you want to stand out from the herd, you have to have something special/different. This is just aimless, speedy picking. No compositional structure to his soloing here - in contrast, see any Ritchie Blackmore solo 1970-1977, for example. It's fine to like this stuff - but your statement was "has to be heard" - in that context, the solo would need to be an exceptional one - and it just is not.
7777Scion has to be heard in the context that it wasn’t heard at the time, not many people I know had heard it hence the post, hard rock soloing happens to be my favourite style along with blues, also kinda basic but I go for feel, how would you have reacted if I’d posted say Get The Funk Out, which in my opinion is an extraordinary solo from Nuno or maybe Big Bad Moon, another Satch moment of brilliance (if which there are many) ?

Very rare album, not many copies made. Also bought it on cassette. Like many good albums, it mainly went unnoticed! We got your back Ray!
