Dr. Jane Goodall's Message on World Chimpanzee Day 2024

- On July 14, 1960, Dr. Jane Goodall arrived in what is now Gombe National Park, Tanzania, to start her trailblazing research on wild chimpanzees. To mark this anniversary, we now celebrate #WorldChimpanzeeDay on this day every year.
World Chimpanzee Day was first founded by a group of NGOs, including the Jane Goodall Institute, the North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance, Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection, and the Lincoln Park Zoo. This year, like every year, is a day of celebration of chimpanzees and the people who have done so much work to help save them.
Hear directly from Jane as she recalls her groundbreaking observations of chimpanzees in Gombe, reflects on the work being done to support chimpanzees today, and thanks all of those who are dedicating their lives to help our closest genetic cousins thrive.
If you are inspired to support the Jane Goodall Institute's chimpanzee conservation efforts, consider becoming a Chimpanzee Guardian! You can directly support the care of rescued chimpanzees at JGI's Tchimpounga sanctuary.

Ty🙏🏼
One day I was walking along within the grounds of the St. Louis zoo near closing time when I saw a loose baby chimp. Now it was pretty small, and the care taker was near by. When I saw this cute little baby chimp, I held out my hands and it ran up and climbed into my arms and hugged me. After just a minute the care taker showed up and we sat down in the grass to play with the chimp for just a few minutes. What an experience.
I felt the same when I got to meet a wooly monkey in Perú. Will never forget that.
Dr Goodall, I hope this day finds you well, and that the blessings you have bestowed upon the chimps, through your geneosity and advocacy, be returned to you tenfold.
I follow one of those US sanctuaries closely, and have shared your message with them, though I'm sure they already received a link.
Peace🙏
Saw you speak in Toronto last year was so great thank you for everything

Think of where there is the ultimate respect of animal life, that means allowing for freedoms and growth for animals dignity before there is a study released exclaiming that we must do so, and copy. Thanks!
