      As stated above, sibs aren’t stepping up to help so I can get back surgery. The surgeon says my spine is “moving”. Out of no where a cousin said she’d come over and help me with some things I can’t do. A second cousin came over in 2019 to help me cut some hooks out of a trailer. I guess we need to open ourselves up to a wider community than immediately family. Some think our 92 year old mom is selfish for keeping her place instead of downsizing. I say mom sacrificed for us now it’s our turn to give back. I wish I could do more but my back (knocked off a bridge in 2018) is slowing me down. Surgeon is amazed I can do any of what I report to him “with your back”.
      Be careful and set yourself up with some sort of passive income cause if you get hurt, you could be out of business and your family needs you. We need you as you show the positive side of the world and social media used for a good purpose. Thank you!

    Love the two neighbors that came out to get the mower fixed. Also gotta send love to the code enforcement officers for caring more about getting the job done than writing tickets. They could have written the ticket while you were working on it, but let you work. And that they want to call you before writing tickets on other properties says everything. They aren't out here to write tickets, but to make sure things get taken care of.

    I have spent the last month restoring abandoned Japanese gardens in Teshima Japan. I was actually given one of them , along with a 200 year old home, two barns and a bath house. I will be restoring the home. It has the most beautiful natural tree beams all hand hewn and put together without nails. It is a lot of work renovating abandoned landscape; and you do a very professional job. I walked down one of the narrow walled streets and removed weeds growing in the cracks. Over the following weeks I noticed more people out doing the same thing. Sometimes it just takes one person making the world better, to influence a neighborhood. You must not live in poverty. It's not as easy as you think it is. Keeping tools sharp and in good shape costs money. Fuel for mowers, trummers, edgers, and blowers costs money. Parts cost money. Replacing tools costs money.
      The desire is there. No one wants their neighborhood to look like crap. But, a lot of times, money is the deciding factor.
      The other thing you're not really getting thanks to video editing is now much time it takes to do what these guys like TK, SB, et al do. It takes HOURS, sometimes 2+ days, to clean a yard up.
      On top of that, it's physical, back-breaking work, often in brutal summer heat. Depending on where you live, it's also humid as hell. If you're not used to it or smart about it, you can seriously hurt yourself, make yourself extremely sick, or even die.
      Other things to consider, depending on location(at least in the US): poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, copperheads, coral snakes, violence in the neighborhood, wasp nests, beehives (check out KillerBeeGuy to learn more about that), used needles, etc.
      It's not worth it for a lot of folks. Think outside your privileged bubble before you make suck comments again.

    • @rapturesrevenge
      @rapturesrevenge 6 місяців тому

      @@gusguthrie9685 I considered not entertaining your foolishness, and then I got to thinking.
      Mowing a lawn doesn't require top-of-the-line tools, you're right. You still need to maintain them. That means sharpening your shovel blades and mower blade with a file if you don't have an angle grinder. If you have an edger, you can extend the life of a blade by sharpening it, too. You still need to replace them after a while.
      Sharpening blades by hand takes time. You need to maintain a set angle. It's not 15 minutes and done. It takes hours.
      Mower engines require maintenance. Start cords break. Self-propulsion fails. Axles break. Wheels pop off. If you can't fix or replace the parts yourself, you need someone to work on it for you.
      Trimmers (weed whackers), edgers, and leaf blowers don't run on pure gasoline like mowers. They run on gasoline with an additive. Said additive isn't particularly expensive, but you go through it a lot faster if you take care of more than just your own yard.
      I do not know anyone who buys a new mower, trimmer, etc., every year. Manufacturers never make the exact same model year after year, and they stop making parts for a particular model after 5-10 years. If, like my dad, you're running around with a trimmer you bought 30 years ago and that trimmer suddenly stops working out of the blue, you need to find someone who will work on it, pray the parts can be found, and pay out the ass for the repair, or buy a new trimmer.
      And, buddy, even the cheapest tools still cost a bunch of money that a lot of people simply do not have.
      To clean up a yard like this one, even with the shittiest, cheapest tools available, you will still be out almost $3k. Mower, trimmer, edger, replacement blades for mower and edger, backpack leaf blower, gasoline, additive, handsaw, folding pruning saw, loppers, hedge shears, rakes, shovels. And that's if you're using the cheapest tools.
      If you're driving around, you need gas for a truck, otherwise you're going to spend a LOT of time walking on top of the many, many hours you're going to spend cleaning up a nasty yard. I've been out on landscaping jobs that take WEEKS, from 7am to 8pm, 7 days a week, transforming nasty yards into nice outdoor spaces. I've been part of volunteer efforts to clean up sections of my old neighborhood, and it takes just as long, mainly because fellow volunteers aren't smart about the heat and wind up in the hospital.
      As for my yard, since you're so concerned, it's quite nice. Then again, it gets mowed every week, unlike the house in the video. :)

    • @rapturesrevenge
      @rapturesrevenge 6 місяців тому

      @@gusguthrie9685 For a moment, I seriously considered ignoring your foolishness, but since you're making it personal, I'm going to lay it out for you.
      I have done landscaping and lawn maintenance, both paid and on a volunteer basis, for most of my life. I have used the cheapest, shittiest tools available, and I have used much, much nicer tools. But let's stick with the cheap, shitty stuff. Starting from scratch, you will still be out $2k at minimum. Depending on where you live, it could be more, it could be less. Mower, trimmer (weed whacker), edger, hand saw, pruning saw, loppers, hedge shears, replacement blades for mower and edger, leaf blower, 2 gas cans (one for the mower, one for the blower, trimmer, and edger), additive for the blower, trimmer, and edger, files to sharpen all your blades and shovel head, rake, shovel, and, of course, gasoline.
      If you live in an impoverished area, you don't have $2k lying around.
      Cost addressed, let's talk about time, shall we?
      Push mowers are slower than riding mowers, even with self-propulsion. I spent many a hot, humid day doing basic maintenance on people's yards with a push mower over my summer breaks. 3-4 lawns a day, 7 days a week. Maintenance is easy.
      What you're describing is maintenance. What's depicted in this video is not maintenance. That's an overhaul.
      Overhauls take much, MUCH longer than the 1-2 hours it takes to do a maintenance cut on an average yard (or, in my case, 30min, because I have a small yard). The front yard alone on this house took TK a whole day to do. The back would probably take another day or two. That's 1-3 12+ hour days of extremely physical labor. Remember, the only power tools we're using are the mower, trimmer, edger, and backpack leaf blower. The hedge shears, loppers, and saw are all manual, and all of these tools are the cheapest you can possibly buy, which means the job is going to take even longer.
      Then there's the time you need to spend maintaining your tools. Sticking with all manual, no power, this means cleaning all your tools by hand (super important if you're allergic to poison ivy/poison oak/poison sumac and you/your tools came in contact with those), sharpening your mower/edger blades, loppers, shears, and shovel head by hand, tuning up the mower engine, etc. Have you ever sharpened such tools by hand? It takes hours. Or, yanno, you could shell out more money to have someone sharpen them for you.
      Oh, and how will you get all of your equipment to the site of the overhaul? If you don't have a truck, or, failing that, a trailer, you're walking. A lot. Do you really want to walk 5 blocks when it's 97F with 50% or higher humidity to overhaul a yard over the course of 15 hours, then trudge 5 blocks back home? If you're not willing to do it yourself, you need to shut up. You showed your ass with your comment, so you'd best shut up instead of trying to backpedal and cover it.

    Cleaning up the outside, is like cleaning up the inside, and if you allow it to get out of control it becomes a big job and very overwhelming. People get old, disabled, life circumstances changes, for all of us, and sometimes we all need a little backup support. Hats off to the people willing to take the time and effort, to help others out in times of need. Not everyone will handle, a job in the same way, or put in the extra effort, to totally do a complete makeover, at some point enough is enough. Helping out, is the important part.

There's no time, or cash to keep up with it all, and it's impossible to do as one person, by the time I cut things down and come back out the next weekend thousands more chutes are popping up in their place, even with herbicide. Hopefully this motivates thousands more people to just get off their cellphones & computers, get outside their house in decent weather, pull a few weeds & prune the bushes by their homes. It does make a huge difference. We help neighbors do it too & we're over 70 yrs old. Thank you for the before & after photos at the end of your video also!

      Not so sure about the squatters part. It's still clearly vacant, the balcony door is open in the before/after shots. It's a shame too, it looks like it would be a beautiful home if it were maintained. But definitely agree on the rest, especially that stop sign. There are several around me that are hard to see, let alone seeing around the corners for oncoming traffic because of vegetation near the street. Unfortunately those properties aren't vacant, just owners that take no pride in their property

Ya know a couple times in this video you didn’t know how you were going to be able to do something, but you didn’t give in and you didn’t give up. That’s a positive life lesson you will be passing on to your son or daughter. That was a ton of hard work. It’s awesome that so many neighbors came out to help when you needed it. That’s what it’s all about. I wish they could develop a tool that removed all the grass and dirt from the curbs and sidewalks so all you guys wouldn’t have to shovel like that. Thanks to each of you for showing kindness to Tucker. 💚
