  • Megyn Kelly is joined by Marcellus Wiley, host of "Never Shut Up," to discuss former NFL star Michael Oher’s lawsuit against his guardians the Tuohys over the "Blind Side" story, the way some in the press are putting an ignorant racial spin on the story, Wiley’s side of what he would do in Oher’s shoes, and more.

Direct quote from Michael’s book: “Since I was already over the age of eighteen and considered an adult by the state of Tennessee, Sean and Leigh Anne would be named as my 'legal conservators,'" Oher said. "They explained to me that it means pretty much the exact same thing as 'adoptive parents,' but that the laws were just written in a way that took my age into account.”
Direct quote from the Petition To Terminate Conservatorship, For Accounting, And Other Relief: “Michael was falsely advised by the Tuohys that because he was over the age of eighteen, that the legal action to adopt Michael would have to be called a “conservatorship” but it was, for all intents and purposes, an adoption.”
Nothing has changed on his part. He is literally saying the same thing so where is the lie? It’s nothing like an adoptive parents! They waived the Guardian ad Litem so who and what was the 18-year-old advised?

She is now slightly disabled and will never be able to fully care for herself. If she was to go off on her own she would probably be sex trafficked and taken advantage of for her benefits. there's a good reason why parents sometimes need to handle their kids' finances etc

We are a white couple that adopted a sibling group of 3 brothers and sisters from foster care. They spent 6 years in foster care before us. The kids wanted to be adopted together, and the state agreed that was the best option for them. They are of Puerto Rican descent. We, and the state, would have preferred they be adopted into a Puerto Rican home. That would have been best. But there were no such families willing or able to step up an adopt them. So we stepped up instead. What was the option - to wait under the ideal family comes along, one that would have been the desired race? These kids were already 10 and 11 years old when we came along, had some special needs, and their chances were pretty slim. Most likely they would have aged out of the system. Frankly, if someone wants to call me a "white savior" - I dont give a damn. We certainly were not perfect parents, and I can assure you we made mistakes. But I can also tell you those kids were given a chance with us that they most likely would never have been given. Call me names if you want - but the only judge whose opinions matter to me are Gods.

Well, if the Left feels that way, then why the hell won't they leave black people alone???
Why do they tell black people they ain't black unless they vote Democrat????

    • @lazarchill8514

Because there are more republicans and independent libertarians and they Democraps need the black vote. That's why they the demorats are allowing illegals in by way of a new voting block.

I think if the black dude didn’t get any money from the movie and the family made heaps, then that’s wrong.. and he should have received some recompense considering the movie is all about him.. and if the family did make him part of the family then it makes sense he gets something.. but it depends on how much the parents got.. but I agree, it should have been a private matter.. and if the dude chose the public option first, then that’s a tad weird..

He was not their "third child". They immediately wrote a book about what they did, making more money from book and movie than they ever spent on him.
Fact: Mike didn't live with them until his senior year.
More facts in an interview with Mike Huckabee 13 years ago titled " Huckabee Interview With the Tuohy Family Who Adopted Michael.."
    - The mother states he WAS NOT HOMELESS when she offered him a ride that rainy night.
    - The daughter states "Mike and I spent a lot of time together before he became part of the family. I cheered and he was on the football team and we both did track. We were already acclimated before THE BIG PUSH to move him in."
Looking back Michael can see they had an agenda. Their websites stated Michael as their "adopted son" until recently.

Honestly I think it’s a really bad idea for a white couple to adopt orphan black children anyway. Too many risks and society is going to rake you over the coals for doing it. Not to mention we can’t ignore racial and cultural differences.

It’s not white savior syndrome. I have some family friends who adopted children out of foster care. They were told from the get-go the chances of them getting a white child, if that is what they wanted. They would be waiting a long time because the fact of the matter is, there is not as many white children out there for adoption if you are adopting from foster care.
They ended up adopting two Hispanic children who happened to be half siblings.
But my point is, the vast majority of people who adopt a child, will adopt whatever child they can get regardless of their color

This isn't racial but look at it as a grifter perspective. The person who wrote the book is a friend of the Oher. They portray him as an idiot and didn't know football. Next is they did lie to him on they couldn't adopt him. Next when did they made that book? Wasn't it when he was in College? So within a year of knowing him, they had a book lined up. Next is why have him go to the school they want him to go? Are they connected to that school.

Honestly Micheal Oher used them and they used him. Seriously they took him in cuz of his raw talent in genes for sports. He wasnt living there and gifted a car and a tutor UNTIl he showed his potential in football. The reality is without them he wouldnt be in the NFL let alone graduate high school. Micheal Oher is prob dead broke. 35 million seems like alot but taxes, and a decade after your done playing its nothing. Did you see his wedding cake? 4 kids and a wife? 5 mouths to feed? Tuey's did have a court order which at 37 makes no sense. Mike wants to reqrite his story and make himself the hero. The movie does make him look like a stupid giant. Tueys each have more lines than him. Mike should be pissed about it. I hope he can get a new series where his truth can be told.
