Happy JPR Friday! What's your favorite Pokemon movie?
Poop
Pokemon I Choose You
Zoroark: Master of Illusions is my favorite Pokémon movie
The three I like the most are the one about Lucario, the one about Zoroark, and the first one about Mewtwo. My favorite one of these three tho, is the Lucario one.
Pokemon the movie 2000
I’m guessing they had plans for more movies but cancelled them due to COVID. And now that Ash is no longer the main protagonist, they might need some time to think of the next movie for the new protagonists
Yh the first movie for a new protagonist has to be impactful like how the first movie is still spoken about
Would be cool if the movies went with ash cuz its in a like different universe
@@Damiantjuuui hope so
@@Damiantjuuu yeah it can be like what is the champion doing now ❤
Or like they will do the same thing, with the AU ash, which I think is a great idea.
The fall of Pokémon movies is pretty sad... because it was a tradition to watch em with friends and family. And I always used them as a way to associate with the overall Pokémon generation of the time. But now that they're absent, it feels like something is missing. Combined with the mixed state of the video games, and the anime leaving Ash for a new direction, it puts Pokémon is a very weird spot currently.
Hoping that works out in the end, because I do love Pokémon as a franchise still overall. But it does need to handle things better.
It may have something to do with the dubs.
It's actually perfect as you could still have Ash in them as like a catchup?
Pokemon slowly lost its soul. First the show after gen 4 going down the drain slowly. XY was a good step but that got thrown away. Movies started getting stale during gen 5. And then after gen 6/7 the games went down the drain.
Pokemon Horizons is the best Pokemon media we've had in the last decade so maybe things will start to go back up
"The fall". Not taking into consideration outside factors?
With how mythicals have basically disappeared post Zarude, the assumption that they have become movie tie in mons over time, hence their lack of in-game precense and lore in recent gens, seems to have some truth to it.
There might be 2 planned Gen 8 mythical designs buried in GF's archives that could've most likely been made for the 2021 and 2022 movies, but have since been discarded following the complications of releasing movies after the health crisis and especially with the diminishing JP box office returns of the last few movies. That event essentially ended the annual movies for now. If that ever happens again, aside from a Detective Pikachu movie sequel or something, the big question is who's gonna star in it now that we're in a post Ash world. With the ICY AU movies settling as standalone / self contained anthology films they can very much keep that formula but with an entirely new cast per movie, with most of the selling points being the partner Pokemon and voice actors (in the JP original at least) and the new mythical fully taking center stage.
They Could've made a Calyrex Movie and a Enemorus Movie (placed in Hisui).
I for one, would want to focus on minor characters from previous films or even antagonists like Bianca or Molly Hale.
And if they were Planned Gen 8 Mythical Designs, they may have probably been used for Gen 9 as normal Pokemon or something
Pecharunt movie!
The company behind the anime, OLM is in the middle of a huge problematic workplace, with many employees quitting in the past years, and having really stressful working conditions on a tight schedule. For example, the the champion tournament was changed radically by the higher ups on short notice, which is why some battles are so very short/glossed over, they weren't intended that way.
Horizons having a two week break (alongside episode 13 being part clip-show) is also another crack revealing itself of how much the team has to push out the anime in the time alloted, recall that the anime was the first place for the DLC turtle shown and it's not surprising.
8:30 It's also worth noting that the animation industry lives and dies with a ton of freelance work. With the pandemic causing a massive backlog of work (animation is a collaborative effort mind you), the industry tried to both play catch up with their backlog and take on more projects because more projects means more money. This means we have a shortage of time to make all these projects and manpower.
The main reason why we don't see Pokemon movies anymore was a Global Pandemic that happened in last few years ago. Right now we are are at entire new era with Liko, and Roy as main protagonists, so it will take OLM studio few years to make more Pokemon OVA's, and movies featuring new protagonists.
The fake one or another one?
It is very interesting that gen 1-6 movies tie-in with the main anime series
And then gen 7 had it’s own timeline of three movies
Either way, if Koko is the last Pokemon movie, then I think that they have ended on a strong note, very emotional film
Secrets of the jungle was a very good movie imo. Did make me cry
@franksandoval6046 um I don't understand your question.
I could see the next Pokémon movie for a mythical being called “(Mythical Pokemon) and the treasures of ruin”
i knew i wasnt tripping! the last movie we saw was the Jungle Movie one. And that was during the 2nd season of the Journeys Anime. They didn't have a movie that year during Journey's final season of the series. That could have been nice to see Ash and Pikachu in their final glory, even though the movies became incredibly different ever since the Sun & Moon Genneration!
I could definitely see a Horizons movie at some point, but probably not so soon. Liko and Roy have JUST started their journeys and while I don’t know if we can expect them to stick around for the next 20 years, their arcs are clearly going to take a couple of seasons to resolve.
To be fair, Ash got a movie after only one year of the anime being out, so having a Horizons movie come out so soon wouldn't be that surprising.
@@JustSomeMexicanwithaMustache Fair, but the Pokemon anime was also way more explosive in its popularity at the time. Horizons seems to be doing well enough, but I'm not sure Liko and Roy are having quite the same splash as Ash did at the start of his adventure.
Also, if Horizons did get a movie, I feel like it would be better saved for the finale. Ash kind of just got swept up in big world-changing events while on his quest to be a Pokemon master, but Liko and Roy are actively following a mystery that feels set to have a big payoff at the end.
@@goldlight1322 Pokémon Horizon move is coming and are you blaming China 🇨🇳 for the coronavirus pandemic 😷 ?
One issue with tying films to legendary/mythical Pokémon is that not all of them make compelling stories based on their abilities. Sometimes the movie works in spite of this (TFM, Zeraora, etc.) because the writers can craft an interesting plot around it, but sometimes they can’t/don’t (the Keldeo movie should have made that work, but probably was short on time/money).
The Keldeo movie was so bizarre, it's like everything wrong with the BW anime in a single film, nothing about the characters even remotely resembles any of the actual BW canon beyond the 3 musketeers being friends and keldeo being their student. Literally zero "hate/dislike" humans, and Kyurem has nothing to do with Reshiram/Zekrom.
The only reason to watch it is if you're a huge keldeo fan really
@@ralpbeez8414 who owns the rights to Pokémon Nintendo and the Pokemon company or Netflix ?
Honestly? I really enjoyed the first 6 or so movies. The last one I remember liking was “Lucario and the mystery of mew”. Not sure if they started getting worse, or if I was just growing out of it 🤷♂️
Also, I remember during sun and moon, people were talking about leaks for the “next game” and basically gave the whole plot summary for the Zarude movie before it was ever announced. Anyone else remember hearing that rumor?
The pokemon movies DID stop being good after Lucario, you're not wrong
@@zehlua Nah that's not true at all. I haven't watched a Pokémon movie since the Zoroark one, but I do recall all of the ones I watched (Manaphy, Giratina, Arceus, Zoroark) to be pretty decent
i only watched the celebi one as of recently and that one was pretty ass ngl
@Yoshyguy21 the only pokemon movies I didn't see was the I choose you movie and the remake of the mewtwo strikes back. I myself really enjoyed the power of us and secrets of the jungle. The movies aren't bad well I didn't care for the lucario movie nor the keldeo movie. But that's me. My favorite is still the 3rd movie "spell of the unknown" though.
Watched the zarude one on netflix, was good but it was just avatar + tarzan with pokemon
I honestly do hope they bring back the Pokemon movies. I really enjoyed their movies especially movies from the first movie till the volcanion movie and detective pikachu and mewtwo strikes back remake. If they can't use mythical they can still use regular pokemon like in the past movies zoroark and lucario. Although I think the arceus chronicles could be a movie if you put all four parts together but idk if's it's classified as a movie or just a mini series.
also one big thing and i did not think anyone has brought up enough ,but OLM main and its overseas studio's are working on alot more anime shows outside of the pokemon these days(hell they even have two shows coming out this summer anime season) and they most likely dropped movies because of this too.
If only the games could get an 3+ years hiatus...
It's been an very weird time for Pokemon recebtly, no movies, no Ash, barelly working games, i hope it gets better someday
They can't, sadly. Seeing how every other branch of the franchise adapts smething from the main games, that puts pressure on said games being released on time.
Pokemon is a soulless cash cow now. Absolute trash. But I'll keep my good memories of Pokemon from 98 to 2014 (last game I enjoyed was Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha sapphire.
@@TheConuresrule No, no it is not a "soulless cash cow".
@@toumabyakuyait’s not even a cow just a corpse wasting away 😂
@@vivvy_0 Is not that either.
I don't know if a Horizons movie would work because unlike Ash, Liko and Roy's stories so far have relied heavily on a continious narrative. There haven't been any filler episodes, it's a serialized show so they'd have three choices for a movie:
- Make it have no affect on the show
- Make it have an affect but recap it within the show
- Make it have an affect but make it so small that people who don't watch the movie will still understand what's going on in the show, maybe Roy gets a new hat or a keychain.
I think the third idea's most preferable, the Ash movies did something similar with the Lunar Wing. I just hope that if a movie happens, it actually matters a little bit to the narrative HZ has been creating
It's always refreshing to watch a new JPR video after my weekly sauna evening.
I don't care if mythicals are meant to advertise the movies or viceversa. As long as I like the pokemon I'm fine with it. At the end of the day it just means that I got a new pokemon AND a movie about it to watch. And I tend to like to get both of them.
And I've been really enjoying Pokemon Horizons. It's great. And Liko is a pretty cool protagonist.
im still mad we never got a movie in the alola art style, of course the series most suited for fluid animation doesn't get to have the movie treatment...
At least if the movies do get made again, there would be chances for more polished works in the end, or at least the possibility of such
Phione, Meloetta, and Meltan/Melmetal are all Mythical Pokemon but they've never had movies
Your videos are always the funniest and accurate 😂 Love all of the content! Been a fan for a few years now, hope to see more ✌🏻
I guess that they could make the DLCs and their Contents as Movies at the End of the Anime Season. It doesnt matter if the Characters remember the Contents of the Movie as to me it seems like the Protagonists of the Anime will switch more offen now. Terapagos is most likely shinylocked and there are still many Legendaries they can distribute as Shinies for the Movies. Im sure Lico and Roy have magically disappeared in Generation 10 or something and we will see new Main Characters until they have found something more profitable.
FYI, I think the “30 million” for Pokémon 2000 is with the standard “marketing equal to production” increase. Production was probably 15 million.
I think the dubs have something to do with it
Great video!!!
You should totally do a video talking about Pokémon Contests Vs Pokémon Showcases
I expected for 2021 to give us a dual-movie for Calyrex, with the Steeds being the "Unova Dragons".
Sadly Hisuian Snow and Masters EX robbed us of having AU Ash in a PLA or Pasio related movie.
Ash is stuck in Pasio, he can never come back
Damn shame.🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️
I remember rewatching all the movies over quarantine. Hopefully we get another one soon and I am sure I will do another rewatch at som point in the future
It feels to me that they’re pouring their resources into the mobile app game because there’s a lot more money in it than movies. It may benefit them in the short term but I think it’s going to drive a lot of long term fans away. I’m already feeling a huge dip in interest tbh.
Ah the movies now made it to the what happened to series! To answer your pinned comment question, my all time favorite movie has to be the manaphy movie! Best story however has to be The power of us! Movie i think i like more than most is the hoopa movie! Loved the different shorts that came along with it just something special to that movie that really has been done since the early movies and really any movie now a days. I hope one day we can see movies return and maybe even do a video on what happened to the pikachu shorts cuz that has history too!
I loved the power of us. I think it has a very good story. I did cry though on the snubull scene...
YES! I want the Pikachu shorts to come back.
I see 4 possibilities for the next animated Pokémon movie:
-Another AU movie
-Another CGI remake (probably The Power of One)
-An original CGI movie (Mystery Dungeon, perhaps?)
-A movie in the Horizons universe
I don’t think they’re completely giving up on animated films, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they skipped next year as well. Maybe we’ll hear something at Worlds next month.
I wonder what happen to all Pokemon DVDs containing any original Japanese version with subtitles...
They could make more movies about AU Ash since his journey hasn’t ended yet right?
The Lugia movie is the best in the first trilogy Pokémon movies, especially in Japanese. The characters go to different places than being in a castle the whole time.
Very interesting topic! I've wondered about this as well, and also why there were no movies taking place in the Alola or Journeys settings.
One of the best video on your channel, congrats 🎉
I hope there are more pokemon movies in the future! Please make it happen!

Jsi borec. Mám moc rád tvoji tvorbu.
It's unfortunate they have stopped this tradition of distributing mythicals through movies, as well as a sneak peak of next gen pokemon and legendaries in the ongoing gen movies. If indeed Satoshi will still reprise his role in the movies after M23, it will most likely be AU Satoshi, perhaps a continuation of JNS05 special episode "A Distant Blue Sky" but now wearing his OS hat from the main series timeline. I hope they'll retain M20 art style though, I didn't like the art style of M21 and M23.
What bugs me is that, they established a new timeline with ash in the i choose you universe, they could use that universe for movies and show us a glimpse of ash's team since he isn't a champion in that universe and still can be traveling galar and paldea like a normal trainer trying to challenge the league. I like liko but i choose you universe ash should star in the movies provided they show his team of the current gen and not just pikachu(I didn't like the fact that ash only had pikachu in the zarude movie). Liko's story should be anime exclusive and so for what I've seen it's best that it concludes during gen 9 since milking it won't be as easy.
Yo I didn't think you'd make it a video at least not this soon lol, thanks. I guess it turns out the timing was good since this week always released them. I guess what's weird to me is they likely make mythicals in advance (as we can see when you could datamine them in past gens) so like, I feel like there's a decent chance there would be like cancelled mythicals if COVID is a big part of why for like a 2021 distribution event in SwSh
Thanks again for the suggestion!
The Pokémon movies used to be canon in the anima then become alternate universe. The big problem with alternate universe is that it doesn’t matter to the rest of franchise.
It's a shame cause the movies are a lot of fun and a great yearly tradition for some people. Even the weakest of pokemon movies have good elements to them. It's likely a combination of the studio taking on new projects while being overworked as well as the new era for the series, needing to develop Liko and Roy more before giving them their own movie. The movies I hope to see return one day. And a great eventual movie should be one about a young adult Ash, it could grab the attention of older viewers who wouldn't be invested in the movies anymore.
Game freak ≠ Pokémon anime. I’m surprised people think this way. Personally for the Pokémon movies it may still be a while to determine where it goes from here, horizons just cam out the other month
It’s also worth noting that the quality of these movies have always been very inconsistent. Mewtwo Strikes Back, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, and Rise of Darkrai are great movies in my opinion. But then you have Celebi: Voice of the Forest, I Choose You and basically every Gen 5/6 movie that are painful to sit through.
If these movies are going to be treated as disposable junk then we shouldn’t be shocked when we stop getting them.
That's subjective though lol
Pokemon movie 1-12 were at least 'canon' movies (with some absolute great ones! Like 1-2, 8, 10-12) after that they started to get meh... sometimes decent ones but worse.
Although the alternate universe ones likes Power of Us, where quite good/refreshing.
one of the big anime that's out as a part of the summer 2023 line up is called Zom 100. The show's staff consist of ex studio OLM employees so there is a good chance Studio Bug (the new studio) is part of the reason
I think you nailed it at 8:33. With less staff-and possibly financial resources-than you've had in the past, what productions do you prioritize? I'm sure OLM produces other shows aside from Pokemon, and I would have to believe the money is in making television episodes to attract the ad revenue from commercials.
And my favorite movie is Jirachi: Wish Maker. Its a guilty pleasure. I know it wasn't the best made movie.
3:29 people think gamefreak is responsible for 100% of everything that goes on pokemon related, so this isn't really surprising.
They should have made a movie about the legendary Pokemon Calirex he never appeared in the anime
Journeys should have had Darkest Day be a full length movie instead of 1.5 episodes in the series.
I’m absolutely fascinated by the law of diminishing returns here, because I think something parallel happened much faster in the US, because after 4ever, none of the movies got a theatrical release, at least in my area. I remember going to see Mewtwo Strikes Back, 2000, 3, and 4ever (I recently found my ancient Mew promo card in the course of moving). But then I had no luck *seeing* any of the movies until Keldeo made a midday premier on Cartoon Network like 10+ years later. Subsequently with the move to streaming, I haven’t been able to find any of the DVDs after Magearna.
I think the thing that surprised me most were the low returns on Hoopa and the Clash of Ages though, that one’s got some classic Showa Era Godzilla movie energy and I love it. But I know I have a strange taste in movies sometimes. Go figure.
Judging from what I’ve seen on iTunes, the Hoopa movie is actually pretty popular (in the West?), possibly even before Hoopa appeared in Masters and Go.
Also, movie 5 (heroes) did get a limited release (like movie 4 did).
I watched the zarude movie a while back. It's pokemon's version of Tarzan but I still enjoyed it. Like the 2 movies before it they did have the topic of death in pokemon
my dream pokemon movie is an all-pokemon cast, and features all the previous mythicals as they go on an adventure or save the world or something. while also featuring a brand new mythical to join them! perhaps the distribution could be getting the new mythical + 1 old mythical of your choice?
This is going to be a really hard situation for the Pokémon company. They'll probably wait and see if the new anime protagonists are popular enough to carry a movie, the anime in general or not. Which I don't see them as iconic as the original characters. They'll probably stand on their own and get replaced with other protagonists.
I think that since both Journeys and Horizons dont take place in just one region, the writers can write arcs that feels like movies.
also, a lot of money is spent on movies because they're big deals, in every anime, the voice actors for movie characters are famous and they demand a lot of money.
in this year, i watched all of Bleach's 4 movies and let me tell you something:
Ganryū, the main villain for the first movie is voiced by Masashi Ebara, the voice actor of Might Guy and Raizo.
Sōjirō, the main villain for the second movies is voiced by Akira Ishida, the voice actor of Gaara, Edo Phoenix and Katsura.
Shizuku, the male main villain for the third movie is voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya, the voice actor of Levi Ackerman and Trafalgar Law.
Homura, the female main villain for the third movie is voice by Aya Hirano, Lucy's voice actress.
Kokutō, one of the 2 main villains for the fourth movie is voiced by Kazuya Nakai, the voice actor of Zoro and Toshiro Hijikata.
Shuren, the second main villain for the fourth movie is voiced by Tōru Furuya, voice actor of Yamcha and Sabo.
It's a shame though because I thought i choose you era films were a breath of fresh air to me
I think a Horizons movie will happen next year 2024 or they could just make a Pokémon movie that is completely different with a new main character or something in the future.
The craziest record during that 2020 is that demon slayer muger train movie got 330 million dollars grossed at the time of this year . But how did they managed to come up getting a money like this 🤔
Btw ,the only highest grossing movie was the first ever that 1999 pokemon movie .
I've watched all of the pokemon movies so many times now, so it's definitely sad to see this result of them.
Ash really had a supporting role in "Secrets of the Jungle." They could have substituted other characters for Ash and Team Rocket without changing the movie very much. They could also make movies around some of Ash's companions rather than Ash himself. Considering the success of shows like "My Little Pony," focusing on Pokemon Coordinators/Performers would seem to have a good chance of being successful.
I think there’s a strong argument for a longitudinal/coming of age Misty movie, though that could be done in live action as well.
@@pokepress why they didn’t put Lillie and Mallow and Lana and Sophocles and Kiawe and Goh and Chloe why ?
@@franksandoval6046 what about a movie where pokemon themselves are made able to talk. So no need for human characters.
Since Ash journey ended with pikachu, I can see why movies could end or take time to bring make, since Ash was the cast for pokemon and Liko and Roy became his replacements. Still maybe they can still do movies with casts like the playable characters in games or adapt a movie from the mangas.
I still wish we got an Alola movie and a Journeys movie instead of cgi remakes and alternate universes.
Damn you know that jpr season 4 is different when he covers the anime/movies.
I think it would be cool if the movies featured Ash in the original universe while letting the show remain focused on the new protagonists. That way, we get to watch new characters grow and develop in the show while also getting to know what crazy adventure Ash is up to in the movies once a year. I’d say that’s a best of both worlds. Fans can enjoy the development of new protagonists without having to say goodbye to the old one.
There is one movie still in development. Its Detective Pikachu 2. It has been in development since 2019. Considering the second game came out in October there is at least one to look forward too.
There's most likely a second one too
We just got a new mythical Pokemon with Pecharunt so maybe there's some hope for a new movie. Potentially this year since Pokemon is skipping out a year on a mainline game and they can use Pecharunt and a movie about it to fill in the gap or something. Though this mythical has already been released before any potential movie, and all the other things you mentioned could mean we aren't getting one this year. I guess we'll just see what happens
I've only seen the Hoopa and Genesect movies, and both of them were on CITV. I didn't watch either of them live, and were recorded to our Sky box. Truth be told, the Pokemon movies were probably just direct-to-video cashgrabs. It's possible that the current anime might get a feature length at some point near the end of its story (I've heard a few animes do that, but I don't actually watch any anime so I can't say for certain; hell I stopped watching the Pokemon one during the Sun & Moon season) As for Ash, he's probably coming back for a big conflict in the last season of Horizons or something as a way of hyping up the finale and boosting ratings.
Instead of Pokémon aim to be a Pokémon Master, I would rather have a movie release on the 26th anniversary of Pokémon and have Ash's story conclude from there with the post-credits scene being Ash vs Red, the battle of the multiversal Pokémon Masters.
Most people watching this video: Huh, this is really interesting…
Me: Is that the Xenoblade 3 soundtrack!?!?!?
Make a proper movie with Ash entering some big tournament and using his old mons
When Covid first started I decided to rewatch all the Pokemon movies in the build-up to Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution getting its dub and some movies still held up 10-15 years after I originally watched them. At the same time, others were really bad and I could understand the lower box office. I at least got to see the Zoroark movie in theaters during the Black and White Tour in Califonia. It's too bad that we are at the end of the pokemon movie era for the foreseeable future. It would be really cool if they pulled a yugioh like move on us and the next pokemon movie would see Ash meeting the other pokemon anime protagonist like Liko/Roy, Red, or even the alternate universe version of himself.
Finally someone will answer the question i've been reading for like the past three years
I'm currently rewatching the Pokemon movies, so this couldn't have come out at a better time.
In the 90s they were hated
Id imagine if they make a movie with the new cast in the next few years, theyll make a canon one with an ash cameo to rake in the cash
no ash=no watch
While it wasn’t promoting a new mythical, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew does have a new for the time Pokemon up front and center in Lucario, where its Aura abilities were a key part of the plot. And Lucario is a fan favorite to the point Ash got one in Journeys.
And that’s the thing, the new Pokémon tend to be the USP beyond the fact it’s a Pokémon film even as the new Pokémon became more formulaic or less relevant to the plots as the films continued to the point Secrets of the Jungle made little impact. The XY movies especially Diancie, Hoopa, Volcanian and Magearna just didn’t have either the likeability or memorability of past characters in the earlier moves (nobody expected Volcanian to be truly dead). I Choose You had a bump because the AU was the USP even though Marshadow was more plot device than proper character (not using the Alola setting also hurt it because it’s inspired by local folklore from Hawaii) but The Power of Us didn’t bring much new to the table in terms of marketing and Zeaora was very interchangeable in its role.
I loved most of the pokemon movies, besides a certain few legendary mashup movies. The last one was pretty much pokemon tarzan so it makes sense why it wasn't as well received. It was less creative than other entries. I think personally I'm biased to the Lucario movie as he is one of my favorite mons, but I think The Power of Us has trumped the Lucario movie shockingly as my favorite. It was well made. I loved all the individual storylines and as a writer myself, that made me happy.
It makes no sense how 'Chiisaki Mono' by Asuka Hayashi was sampled in the Jirachi movie 4Kids version, despite Teen Titans and Pokémon being shown on Cartoon Network that Puffy are known for the Teen Titans theme song, 'Hajimari no Uta' got replaced with 'We Will Meet Again' by John Siegler in the Lucario movie 4Kids version.
I would love to see a new Pokemon movie with new characters, really just a celebration of Pokemon and giving the feeling of being a person in this world
I really wouldn't mind if they took some time and made a bigger project. I know they won't because that isn't the quick profit scheme they have been adopting. Some of the first few movies are genuinely impressive. As someone that doesn't watch the regular anime the first 5 or so movies were incredible. I really enjoyed the more mature themes and the single sitting storytelling, also the shorts are some of the cutest pokemon content we have, the pichu bros is my childhood.
How did the live action "Detective Pikachu" do in comparison to the other movies?
Much higher return (450-500 million box office worldwide), but also much higher budget (over 100 million). Also much longer production time.
You should have said "the straw the broke the Camerupt's back."
They're probably are still writing the new movie with the new characters based on the new dlc. They could also be waiting until the new series finishes aring it's 1st season. Also you have to remember they have gen9 to update, plus about 7 spinoff games and the anime to promote at the moment. Regardless I doubt the next movie comes out before the dlc, and I doubt even moreso that Ash is going to be in the movie in any capacity larger than a co-star to pass the pervebial torch.
Mugen Train came out just two months before the last Pokémon movie and became the highest-grossing anime film of all time, beating out Spirited Away. Granted, Demon Slayer is the hot new show and the film was necessary to the continuity of the canon, but even the pandemic can't totally explain Secret of the Jungle's failure.

I've most of the Pokemon movies on DVD.
The only one I'm missing is Mewtwo Returns.
Though I actively chose not to have the Keldeo movie and everything main timeline wise after the movies went into Kalos and beyond because I was so incredibly bored watching those.
I do have all 3 of the Alternate Universe Ash movies though.
We also have to consider the effect the success of Detective Pikachu on the franchise. While a direct movie sequel is in the works, I suspect Pokemon has been pitched other ideas, which may be taking up some oxygen.
You should do a what happened to pokemon duel!
Surprising despite the name Porno Graffitti, they are able to have the song 'Breath' in a movie. I guess it is better than Barenaked Ladies having a song in Chicken Little since that Disney movie is a mean-spirited movie that tried to be a Dreamworks movie.
It’s a bit of a shame, I enjoyed a lot of the newer movies that they put out but then again ease of access via Netflix was the reason I even saw them in the first place.
Ohhhh i love those movies, ill miss them :(
I'm going to be sad that we will not get a continuation on the alternate timeline of Ash because I remember the Pokemon people saying something about this Ash would age throughout his movies, but I understand if they bring him back it would cheapen his retirement😢 and they're going to want to focus on their new two protagonist liko and roy.
Still feels unfair 😢😢😢
Honestly I didn't even notice mythicals vanished, but I haven't played a game since 2017, so i guess that's why.
JPR! How come you didn't mention the final trailer for the movie that never happened?
THANK YOU! 👏
We are definitely in a rough spot with Pokemon movies, if we ever get another Pokemon movie, it has to be able to attract attention like M20. Mythicals have also made it more complicated and I think TPC and Game Freak want to let go of Mythicals especially with intences like Keldeo, Mew, Manaphy, and the god of all Pokémon, Arceus being obtainable forever. Let's not forget that Shinji Miyazaki retired from making the music from the movies. While Conisch would work, Miyazaki has put the identity of the music in the movies.
And then Detective Pikachu, a live action movie based on a spin-off game that barely anyone actually played, came out of nowhere and made over $400 million in the box office, and that’s considering every movie in 2019 existed in the shadow of some of Disney’s major flicks of the year, and it even outperformed some of THOSE.
That alone might be the biggest W Creatures Inc. has ever taken as a company knowing how the animated ones have done.
I just want to see a movie that bridges the ash arc with the new one. Something like ash training thew new cast or showing how ash retired and where he is now.
