    Did you know that about 20 percent of the energy you take in through food each day is used for brain power? So what happens to your brain when you stop eating normally during a fast?
    This is one of the questions addressed in this video by Dr. Robin Mesnage, Lead Data Scientist at the Buchinger Wilhelmi Clinics. He also clears up some misconceptions and shares the results of studies, explaining the benefits of fasting for the brain and cognition.

    There are some clinicals studies in France frome 70 ~ 80s, I read at least one in 1989, A thesis on a clinical study of 40-days fasting, I think.
    I used to fast, between 17 ~ 22 years old. I did 3 days several times, 5 days several times, and one time I did 10 days. The longest was 22 days. Just water each time.
    My cognition was fast and super clear, mental calculation was a joke, "lightning speed" ... in a manner of speaking. My senses were heightened, especially the sense of smell. I could sense that someone I know was at my parent's apartment earlier, when I arrived at home, his natural body odor, in the front door (that freaked me out).
    I remember saying to my older sister, Christophe was there? She said "Yes. How do you know?" I respond "I smelled", she thought I was joking.
    when i was fasting, my sleep changed from 8 hours to 5~5.5 hours (sometimes 4h30). I woke up super energized...
    I know it's anecdotal, but voilà.
    (I am 51 years old now, I resumed fasting again. About 6 months ago I did 4 and a half days. The effect wasn't as strong as 30 years ago, but it was OK. There is just more garbage in me it's logical. I'll just have to fast longer, one of these days. 8 or 10 days.)

      i do 19 hrs fasting daily. But I'm really troubled with the sleeping pattern change....I also changed from 8 to some 5 hrs of sleeping but I'm fully aware of the importance of sleeping properly. Maybe the body naturally doesn't need as many hours of sleep to repair, but that is not scientifically proven, so it's worrisome for me.

    Inspiring to hear of these studies as I am a veteran of fasting. Sometimes the only way to learn these truths is to experience them by DOING. Fasting is a “muscle” that you make stronger with each successive experience. I was guided by Dick Gregory, the black American political activist. He taught me to rest, take hot baths, cleanse the colon, prayer and meditation, take walks and breathe deeply. The cognitive, emotional, spiritual and pure total body experience will bring a pronounced joy to your life. Give it a try. Find a practitioner with whom to share this experience. Doing is knowing.

      Linda, that’s wonderful! Good for you doing these fasts and the healing you’re experiencing, how exciting👏👏. I bet you’ll do very well on that cognitive test….perhaps you can share here once you do that test. Thanks for sharing your story, it’s inspiring

      @@amandatkids854 I see my primary doctor in December so ..if I don’t forget..LOL I will let you know . I expect it will take ages to get an appointment once the referral has been made . I am doing good so far if I burn dinner I haven’t burned a hole in the pan as well…my son takes that as a good sign. He has a friend who’s mother has dementia and that is what she did. We see the test as setting a baseline for the future if or when more tests are necessary.🙋🏼‍♀️I am present and waving to you. Thank you for your interest in my journey .I should addour dear Amanda is the wife of my son and they have given me a wonderful granddaughter perhaps the coincidence will help me with remembering my promise 😇

      Oh thanks for telling us all, and that’s funny! No pressure to share your results but it would be fun to know since all you’re doing now is so healing. Does your son practice your fasting and eating style, or is he waiting for your results before he dives into prolonged fasting? I bet his friend will discuss fasting with his mom then as well. That’s so lovely how your granddaughter may help you remember to let me know your results.🤩💁‍♀️. Thank you sweet granddaughter

    Very good job in explaining the benefits of "Fasting". If only more people would engage in the experience of fasting as a medical treatment rather than just search for pills to help them overcome their medical conditions I believe we would have more healthy and satisfied people. Keep up the good work.

      I reccomend prolonged fasting. DYOR on the topic and make sure your in the right health to do it safely. I have seen a great improvement in my LC after a 3 day water fast paired with supplementing RESVERATROL & QUEURCITIN. This triggers autophagy and clears the blood of spike proteins!!

    How about the die-off effect? When does this start if we do water fasting and what we should do in order to both cleanse the body and have much less side-effects or destructive effects? Thank you.

    This is such an important & interesting & potent video tutoriol of this great topic of brain - fasting connection. 🙏🌞👌 I want to know more about this brain BDNF hormone and his full effect whilst one is fasting. I'm also wondering about setotonin - apetite connection. This is something very new for me, could you explain it nore as well? Thank you so much for your channel. I'm your big fun. 🙏🎊💫

    I learned that when fasting, so many organs shrink but the brain doesn't. I'm wondering if fasting can reduce age or disease related brain shrinkage.

    • @BuchingerWilhelmiFasting
      @BuchingerWilhelmiFasting  Місяць тому +1

      Many organs shrink during fasting due to autophagy. This is associated with rejuvenation. The brain is a noble organ, and it does not shrink during fasting, but there are many studies that show that the brain probably gets anti-aging effects from fasting, even though it does not change its size.

    The Effects of long term fasting on the brain are for juice fasting or water fasting? I personally find there are quite different effects. Could you please elaborate.

    • @BuchingerWilhelmiFasting
      @BuchingerWilhelmiFasting  Місяць тому

      We should define what we talk about by juice or water fasting. Juice fasting is unlikely to have the benefits of fasting. Learn more here: buchinger-wilhelmi-shop.com/en/juice-fasting-fasting-mimicking-fasting-box/
      Even though our long-term fasting protocol allows for the consumption of juice, calories remain minimal so that the body can enter ketosis, the metabolic state of fasting that is known to have positive effects on the brain.

    I was fortunate to have fasted for 24 days at the clinic this past summer. My mood was definitely elevated during my stay and for several weeks afterwards. I felt my thinking was clear and purposeful and I also felt very rested. There were some other non-brain related benefits as well. I am interested in the studies related to the BDNF molecule and the benefits for the brain in fasting, as I have friends who suffer from neurological diseases. I would like to encourage them to try a stay at the clinic, but in the States we don’t seem to have a lot of support or information from the medical community for long term fasting. I will do a review of any current or past studies (human or not) that might show some progress in this area. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it. I would like to dive a little deeper into this subject from a research perspective.

      Hello and thank you for your comment.
      I hope you understand that we cannot give medical advice on social media. To find an answer to this question, you have to be interviewed and fully examined by a doctor experienced in fasting. He or she will help you to find the best therapy for you.
      Long-term fasting has many benefits but should be done under medical supervision. If you are interested in more information about the indications we treat, please visit our website: www.buchinger-wilhelmi.com/en/therapeutic-fasting-and-nutritional-strategies/#indikatoren
      We wish you all the best! 🍀

    Where is the study showing 350% increase in BDNF after 48 hours of fasting? I've been trying to search in various journals, and I can't find it. I've only found studies showing that intermittent fasting over 8 weeks or 6 months decreases BDNF.
