I know the writers confirmed this isn't the case. But I really like the interpretation that Starbuck's father is Seven - Daniel - the Final Cylon who was purged by Cavil, for being Ellen's favourite.
Same! It makes sense both for being the most simple explanation narratively for Kara's origin/nature and also as a perfect connection to the cylon/human hybrid plotline. Agreed! Would have made perfect sense for her to be a hidden first hybrid child granting her a special destiny. She just dies, reborn, finds her dead body on Cylon Earth, discovers that the notes of this song equal the jump coordinates to Earth II. Then disappears when talking to Lee. No closure what so ever for Kara. Having it all tie into the story of her mother, father, Cylons, 13th Tribe, music notes, and Earth II makes perfect sense. it gives her character's end closure. This same was taught to the Final Five by perhaps the same being two millennial ago and was a sub conscience trigger. That's why Starbuck's mom always knew she was special and had a purpose, just didn't know exactly what. "Kara Thrace shall lead them to their end". The end is Earth.
She was the Harbinger of Death in the sense that she would lead Humanity to its end. The end being our Earth. It would have made a lot more sense if her father was the sole Number 7 Daniel survivor that escaped Number 1's wrath. Ellen said he was a sensitive artist. Kara being the first official "in secret" hybrid child would answer the question as to why she knows the song and the coordinates to Earth and comes back as an angel. Me and my family watched this entire show a while back, probably last year or the year before, and this scene is still the only one that I really remember.
It would make sense if he was a cylon. Making Starbucks the original cyclone human hybrid before Athena and thus closer to the angels. Hence why she was able to come back after death.
I read that they planned for Dirk Benedict (original Starbuck) to play Kara's father. But they had a falling out over some critical comments Benedict made about the show. Even Katee Sackhoff ended up disliking the guy over his attitude.
This is the quote that the WOKE people didn't like...."Women are from Venus. Men are from Mars. Hamlet does not scan as Hamletta. Nor does Hans Solo as Hans Sally. Faceman is not the same as Facewoman. Nor does a Stardoe a Starbuck make. Men hand out cigars. Women “hand out” babies. And thus the world for thousands of years has gone’ round."
There is a fun fan theory that this Angel of Kara's father is actually a Daniel model that survived Cavill's purge... According to the theory, he received divine visions of Caprica... Drawn to the planets artistic freedom and richness he left to the colonies to pursue his love of poetry, art and so on...This is where he met Kara's mother... He would often tell her about his divine visions and foretold of the daughter they would have whom would be a "Champion of humanity"... Kara's mother bought into it so much that she wanted to see it become a reality... They got married and had a daughter, but soon their marriage hit the skids and one day he just disappeared (Much like Kara in the finale)... Grief stricken, Kara's mother sought to keep a piece of her husband around that she filled Kara's head with Daniels visions to the point Starbuck dismissed them as mere delusions... and the rest is history... Regardless, this theory was eventually discredited by RDM stating that the Daniel plot was just supposed to be nod to Cain&Abel... Still, it's a cool theory...a could technically be canine if they ever wanted to make it that way...
I’ve come to realize this scene sums up exactly how I feel about the show. It has long since past and I can never have the feeling of experiencing it for the first time again and it’s sad. But at the same time it brings me joy to just remember it. Much like the colonials having only memories of their home, I have only memories of the show and reliving them brings me a melancholy joy.
And that moment- when she realizes it’s her father, when he just simply smiles in a way that says I love you so very much, I’m so proud of you-so much said in just a smile, just heartbreaking.
@@swaneeoffback I'll be honest I'd only ever heard of the Jimmy Hendrix version. Nikoletta, Yes, visually that appears to be what occurred, but I'm of the opinion he was never physically present, only operating in Kara's consciousness. No one questions where he went, as they surely would have done, if he had actually been sitting next to her.
This scene really makes me think that Kara is the first human-cylon hybrid. Probably she is the daughter of the lost (boxed) Cylon model Daniel. This also could explain the spark between Hera and Kara :)
Yeah, and that would require an explanation, like so many other things. And Kara was supposed to be a ghost at this point, or an angel, or whatever they invented but never cared to actually think through.
Back in season 2 she mentions her father playing piano. Whether he's a divine vision, daydreaming, imagining it, projecting, or what is left open. A lot of people say they have experienced something like this.
Given that Kara is literally an angel (or equivalent), I see no reason to believe that it's not anything from another divine messenger to God himself. Who knows?

I read that they planned for Dirk Benedict (original Starbuck) to play Kara's father. But they had a falling out over some critical comments Benedict made about the show. Even Katee Sackhoff ended up disliking the guy over his attitude.
Dirk Benedict was outraged that they cast a woman as Starbuck. He openly refers to Katee Sackhoff as Stardoe.
@@fodxp Not sure where you heard that. There is a photo op of the two of them together.
@@broadstrokespro Dirk Benedict stated in inteviews. In fact Katee Sackhoff had to block him on social media. She prefers not to talk about it.
And thus the world for thousands of years has gone’ round."
this scene is what solidified it as one of the best shows of all time.
the scene and the music is just mind blowing one of the best of the series
Best sifi/spiritual series/ documentary I've ever seen.
So say we all.
Well, watching this piece of art push me to rewatch the entire Show.
20 years later!!!
This is Battlestar Galactica Magic!!!
I got the chills, again. And: Every. Single. Time. One of the greatest sequences in one of the best and well-done Sci Fi series ever.
Still goosebumps
The way incorporated music in this series is fantastic. All along the watchtower, brilliant
Man this was an episode to remember!
Best TV show of all time...simle cannot replicate the atmosphere it creted let alone the acting, soundtrack and script.
Jimi Hendrix is a saint and I hope he is living in space flying on the Galactica along with David Bowie and Carrie Fisher
yep, but this song is of Bob Dylan...
InS4n3 STILL
@@H19Lab, not still, it's a Dylon song

@@swaneeoffback I'll be honest I'd only ever heard of the Jimmy Hendrix version. That article you posted is interesting though since Bob Dylan started performing it more like Jimmy Hendrix and sees it almost as a tribute to him every time it's played.
Tldr: thanks for the info it was an interesting read
That scene is what made me realize that I trully love the show. Simply breathtaking! 🔥
The sheer chills i got when Tigh drops the line "What the frak?!" gets me every time.
First time seeing this scene give me chills. Still does
One of the best written shows of television, and I fracking mean it!
This music is so powerful and passionate on what needs to b played for her to save mankind. The emotions and actions taking place of everyon just play d out perfectly to this music. All of them realizing they r the makers, the parents of the cyclones and the new ones is just heart beating which skips to each higher tone. Magical. ❤️☺️
This has all happened before! Fantastic.
deepest way to describe a synchronicity in a mainstream show. this is a legendary tv show!
I love Saul's reaction here. Just like the rest of the series, slightly annoyed bewilderment.
I just finished the series and i am crying
This scene was so powerful.
Even though I don't remember a single thing about the series (I had watched all of it 10 years ago) I perfectly remember this song. Frak.
That thing when you put Bear McCreary’s genius score together with All Along The Watchtower INTO THE PLOT and expect people to go along with it.
Well, I go along with it. This is incredible.
Dylan once said that his songs where always there, waiting to be discovered.
@@dirdib69 "All this has happened before..."
One of the best scene ever in all films I have ever watched
what a lovely song
Just rewatched the whole series (In about a week :D) cannot believe that I forgot this scene, the way it just leads into all along the watch tower is seamless and beautiful. This is my favourite sci fi series on reflection. So well done.
That was her father. He had vanished by the time Saul approached Starbuck.
Nikoletta, Yes, visually that appears to be what occurred, but I'm of the opinion he was never physically present, only operating in Kara's consciousness. No one questions where he went, as they surely would have done, if he had actually been sitting next to her.
I still hold to my theory that Starbuck's father is Daniel/#7, the ghost who was playing piano with her and thats the hill i'm going to die on!
Soooooooo, 2 angel pianists is what I see?
"Its that frakking song!!"
Rafael Santos it’s in the fraking ship
Please do a moment about when the two cavils are “spaced” in “The Plan”
Not going to lie, I liked the Cavils.
Fod Xp yeah they were my favorite Ceylon model
bsg did do many things right, one that it especially did, was music, bear you did a ingenius job on it, just mesmerizing
My favorite Sci Fi of all time!
This scene really makes me think that Kara is the first human-cylon hybrid. Probably she is the daughter of the lost (boxed) Cylon model Daniel. This also could explain the spark between Hera and Kara :)
I think the man was suppose to be her father
Yeah, and that would require an explanation, like so many other things.
And Kara was supposed to be a ghost at this point, or an angel, or whatever they invented but never cared to actually think through.
That's exactly who he is, and she doesn't realize it until the song finishes. Amazing scene.
Naw, that was Fred Astaire...
Who knows?
