German is very literal which makes it difficult and fun at the same time. I was born in Munich when my father was in the US Army, and studied German in elementary school, later in high school in the states, and then in college. It's been a long time since I have spoken it. I'm going to be fluent soon for when I go back in the next year or two, hopefully.
Nice video! My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

I've been learning German so I can talk to my cousin's who live in 15 different different countries. We all speak German, and 2 different languages. Some of us speak English too. But most do not. I also spent entirely too much time with my great grandparents, they where from the wehymar and I learned German before I learned English. Then I had to go to public school, which made me learn English. I am pretty rusty on my advanced German. But I like to watch and learn things multiple times from different aspects. So this video really helps.
its easier when you know two languages already, you have more words to relate German words two. In my case i can also speak Spanish and some words sound similar.
I can speak: German(because I am German) And I am learning English and French in school(English since 1st grade well already for 7 years and French since 6th grade wellfor 2 years now). But I can speak English pretty good(But not perfect) I can speak some words in: Dutch( My grandma is from Netherland and I am past Dutch) Spanish Chinese Japanese Korean Italien Polish And Albanian Nobody wants to know that. I know😂 Sorry if there are mistakes in here😅😅
We have a lot in common with our German brethren.. nothing to be ashamed of..its where our Anglo Saxon heritage comes from..none of us can help what happened 70 years ago..surely?
My reason why I wanted to learn German (even though I had it in school for 4 years) because I moved away and live near the border of Germany. Many people here speak German anyway, so it will be an advantage to communicate with more people. Also, I have few German-speaking friends, so it would be cool to also speak with them in their language instead of English.
The fact that I've been learning german at school for 5 years already and I'm here because they changed the teachers so many times that I lost the connection with german scares the hell out of me... Like, my vocabulary sucks even though my accent is alright, but these videos help more than trying to learn from google
That's right it could seem scary that you may lose alot of your progress but you won't lose as much as you think. Language learning is a process and takes alot of time 👍

Laura, I really loved the way you teach. I remember most of those you told us here! I'm a teacher here in Greece and all I can say is that you are a very good teacher of German language :) Danke!!!!!!!!!
Great Video! But just a little but super important hint. 'Ich heiße' does not mean 'I am' but is another word to say 'My name is'. Since there is (as far as I know) no exact equivalent word in the english language we just say 'I am'. For example 'I am Laura' - 'Ich heiße Laura' and more correctly translated 'Ich bin Laura' (which is also totally fine to introduce yourself, and many Germans do.) And 'I am hungry' - 'Ich bin hungrig' not' Ich heiße hungrig' (Which would mean 'My name is hungry'.... I hope not) My point is the verb 'heißen' ONLY ever gets used by saying your or someone elses name. Never to be confused with any version of the verb 'to be'. Hope this helps someone.
Yeah I learned it that way too but, keep in mind that people in different parts of Germany say different words. They also pronounce some words very different than other parts
Although this probably sounds silly,I love the band rammstein.....I’ve learnt how to count to ten...and translated their lyrics to find their meaning. They’ve inspired me to learn German,so now I’m here 😂
Yeah same used to listen to em alot in the 90's.. That's always helped me pick out random things Germans say.. I'd never be able to get by in German, but I can get a jist of what their talking about if said slow enough.
When i first researched about old english i realised it sounded so similar to german! An i found out that english itself was derived from german words. And i have a bts-stan friend who always boasts about her knowing korean. This is a great thing to smash at her

Anyways, have a good day :)
Oh you habe to come to my channel
@@princetweed2255 your translation was great! I wish I could speak German as well as you. 😭
@@WhiteWolfYT964 Oh thanks. I totally forgot this comment still exists lmao.
But you can do it, I swear! With a little bit of practice every 2 or 3 days, you can actually improve your german level a lot!
Watching german video creators can also really help you (good example for that is James Bray, just look him up if you want to lol). German UA-camrs can also help. Really good ones are (just in my opinion ofc) Renzo, Alicia Joe, JustNero and so on. Start with english subtitles and when you feel safe enough you can continue with german ones. Look up the words you don't know and you'll notice that your understanding improves step by step. Listening to german music is also a great way of learning. Cro, TJ-Beast boy, Bausa, LEA, Mark Forster, Das Lumpenpack...
Don't give up. I know it seems hard at first but that's how I taught myself english. Good luck, buddy🤙🫂

Here in Germany things are going downhill at the moment, our government is making policies against us Germans.
We have a building called the "Job Center" and any foreigner can go there and get money and an apartment paid for without having to work for it. It's all paid for by our taxes and the people who work are really angry about it.

Yeah like es which means ' is ' in spanish but here, in German, es means ' it '.
Dutch and french and frisian are the languages you are looking for :)
I was about to ask what other language then it dawned on me
I can speak:
German(because I am German)
And I am learning English and French in school(English since 1st grade well already for 7 years and French since 6th grade wellfor 2 years now). But I can speak English pretty good(But not perfect)
I can speak some words in:
Dutch( My grandma is from Netherland and I am past Dutch)
Spanish
Chinese
Japanese
Korean
Italien
Polish
And Albanian
Nobody wants to know that. I know😂
Sorry if there are mistakes in here😅😅
Sameeee i can relate both german and english with spanish 🤭
I took some German classes, so I am glad I found this channel so I can keep practicing and developing my German skills
I went from leaning almost nothing about German to knowing wayyy more thank you for this I got better and can speak it now

Learn german from me
The fact that I've been learning german at school for 5 years already and I'm here because they changed the teachers so many times that I lost the connection with german scares the hell out of me... Hello
These videos are really helpful, I watch them with my friends on Voicely whenever we practice German. We all agree that we learned more from UA-cam videos than from the German "lessons" we have at school
That’s also because at school your forced to learn, outside of school it’s your choice. You’re brains more willingly to learn when you are

Same
Laura, I really loved the way you teach.
For example 'I am Laura' - 'Ich heiße Laura' and more correctly translated 'Ich bin Laura' (which is also totally fine to introduce yourself, and many Germans do.)
And 'I am hungry' - 'Ich bin hungrig' not' Ich heiße hungrig' (Which would mean 'My name is hungry'.... I hope not)
My point is the verb 'heißen' ONLY ever gets used by saying your or someone elses name. Never to be confused with any version of the verb 'to be'.
Hope this helps someone.
Inga Wolpers ‘ich heiße’ translates to ‘I am called’. It’s similar in Spanish, with ‘me llamo’.
Definately helped me
Yeah I learned it that way too but, keep in mind that people in different parts of Germany say different words. They also pronounce some words very different than other parts
My name is Hungry.
You are too false. "İch heisse Murat." means "I am called Murat."
I already knew most of this but I have started learning German again and it was good to have a refresher. It also got me more motivated.
