When I first saw it a couple of years ago I was surprised to find it was made a good few years before the recent rubberhose revival (and that I hadn't seen it before).
I really like Cuphead, but I think this older animation (Ghost of Stephen Foster) wins out. These black and white animations have an “otherworldliness” and appear quite uncanny. Whereas Cuphead animations, utilizing full color, while pleasing to the eye, nevertheless robs Cuphead animations of the dreamlike mystery and depth of the black and white genre.
@@jvgreendarmok yeah at least 20+ years ago. It was on a dvd I purchased (Squirrel Nut Zippers) quite a long time ago. To my point, this style that you call rubber hose has had its imitators for some time and it’s hardly a recent fad. Augenblick animations created several in this style many years ago contemporary to the Ghost of Stephen Foster. Even Futurama did a take on this style.
@@stickygumshoes2428 I totally agree, I think there's an in-game b&w filter you can put on. Personally I really prefer it (only problem is you need to see colors to do certain things in game lol)
@@stickygumshoes2428100% agree. The detail when he played the violin and the bow catches the hook of his nose and then it sprang up like a diving board was a treat to watch.
This was made in 1999? I honestly thought this was a proper 1930s cartoon at first glance. Whoever made this did an incredible job at replicating the classic Fleischer studio style.
I'd Like to call this Buddy and Cookie's Final Moments, Buddy was still alive after he appeared in the Animaniacs Episode but here, this is how Buddy and Cookie "died"
Just because someone decides to use the rubber hose style doesn’t mean they’re like Cuphead in any way. They use the same style of animation but this is its own thing
i thought it was gonna be some actual good 1930s-esque animation, but no, pretty much traced from multiple animations by the Fleischer team but nice nod to cab calloway at the beginning
This stands with Cuphead at the pinnacle of getting the old timey animation style _pinpoint perfect._ Great character designs!!

The intro with the bandleader moving around like Cab Calloway is stellar! My Romanian grandmother loved this tune! Lots of fun here! Ciao -- W
This music video is a tribute to Fleischer Studios in case you were wondering
Nice, a higher quality version
Thank you youtube algorithm for feeding me this splendour! Great job band and animators!!
This is so grandly hilarious, and a superb homage to those ol' Nat Fleischer/Betty Boop cartoons. More please!!

MASTER PIECE! THE MUSIC, AND THE ANIMATION
How wonderful and needlessly complicated.
whiskey made for drinking! ships were made for sinking!
If we were made of cellophane we'd all get stinking drunk much faster Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!
Old timey animation on Shrooms! Brilliant!
I'm here because George Liquor sent me!
George Liquor? Like the Ren and Stimpy guy?
The song and the cartóon aré amazing.
Love them saw them in California
Wow, reminds me of the old jazz cartoon "swing you sinners", creepy!!
Big bimbo vibes right there
How is this uploaded version better quality than the one of their official channel?
How is this video claimed or credited to Ghostmane?
3:00 this point of the music makes me just want to do the bottle dance from Fiddler on the Roof.
Awesome 😂❤
I can't even hazard a guess as to what the hotel manager is suppose to be.
A ghost, probably. As for whose ghost that is, I truly don't know.
Класс!
Who animated this?
The animators are credited at the end (3:41).
