Thanks for the info about the passthrough wires. I initially wired there but got no lights. I measured and my meter displayed nothing. I searched and found your video helpful. The other set of wires were well hidden and it took time to find them. Finally took the time to install the lights I bought a year ago for my 2019 Raptor.
Thanks for the comment . I had Ford take back my 2018 Raptor under the lemon law for a bad engine. I ordered a new 2022 Raptor October 29 2021. Ford changed the order to a 2023 last September. I just got notified of a Vin number. First build date will be March 2023. I am suffering from Raptor drought.
Hope that was not too much hassle but compare to what I went through, I don't doubt it was. My issue was simpler, a defective display panel on a brand new Raptor. Took multiple visits with each time I pleaded with them to talk to a mechanic. When they finally did, the guy just said something like, oh, yeah, that's common and I know what's wrong.
Hope my new Raptor will not have any problems. Ford would only allow me what I paid for my 2018 Raptor toward any new none specialty ford product as part of the Lemon buy back deal. I took a 2021 F-150 Platinum Hybrid while I waited for the 2022 Raptor order banks to open. Great truck except every time I drive it there is something different do to the constant over the air updates Ford installs. It borders between being interesting too being scary.
Thank you so much for this video, this is the first time I saw all of this video. For some reason, there are clips of you already out by the truck showing and I never caught the first part of this video which is the answer to my problems with my fog lights. Thank you again!
Thank you. Getting ready to install POD lights. You've saved me some serious time with all my projects. By the way...GORGEOUS GORGEOUS 1934 Packard Twelve!.
I had a light bar "professionally" installed and my relay on the harness burnt out for some reason. Thanks to you, I now know it can be wired better and cleaner.
AWESOME! Definitely saved me a lot of time! My 2018 Raptor was wired exactly the same as yours so i just double checked to make sure the switches were all firing correctly and they were so thank you for the help.
Thanks alot for this video! I've never tried anything like this before so it took me alot longer than usual and I had to learn the hard way to have the right tools fornthe job and don't try to get by with what you have. After finally getting the right hot wires hooked up, I learned that I didnt ensure all connectors were stripped correctly and tight. Lights were flickering when I messed with them. Had to go back and re-do all the connectors! What an experience...lol
Thank you so much for this! I just installed some lights on my 2018 Raptor and this saved me. I could not have done it without this video. I never would have known about the second set of wires that you pointed out--they were very well hidden and I don't think I ever would have found them. Also, the correct colors you pointed out were spot on. I hooked up the wires and they worked the first time. Thanks again!
Thank you for posting this! I wired all my lights to the pass-through wires too! The wire colors and gauges matched the relay switch wire colors too! Completely missed the second hidden set of wires.
Super helpful, simple to understand. Even though I’m working on a ‘13 this video shined light on the path I should be on for auxiliary switching that come with the pickup.
Just received my Raptor that was built in October as well (same color) thanks for this info, just starting the electrical hook up, will certainly save time and agro. Thanks again.
Thank you for the info... Expecting my Raptor to be delivered in March with a February 12 build date, so I’m currently trying to find all the useful information I can... And this sir, is very useful information... Thanks again... I subscribed and will be watching
Doug, Thank you so much for this video. It was and is very helpful. While Ford made the Raptor simple to modify, it really failued in updating the supplemental owners manual. Just guessing by the pictures and the mistaken color code on the wiring, they used the 2017 specs which is why your video knocked it out of the ballpark. And btw, my 2018 was made in July but the wiring color codes are the same as yours. Thanks again.
Hello and thank you for your video. I have a 2019 Raptor, and Ford did update it. Color codes on page 51. Aux 4 is Green/brown though-in their book and their wiring. I also grabbed the inside/more middle set of powered wires.
Hey great video I have a 2019 raptor and been wanting to find out where those AUX wires are I never looked before. I'm goin to have a look now and see if my wires are bundled where yours are and check out the book for the color other wise thank god I'm an electrician I can figure it out with a meter if the colors don't match my manual... thanks
Good info and nice truck. I too have used some Rigid Lights on my trucks, the floods for off road. They are quality and the customer services reps there are very helpful.
Touche' Douglas Fernandez! Just as you say, locating the "live" side harness, is a little tricky, as it is located, behind the two computer plugs. Thanks! for sharing . . .
I was trying to figure out how a 2018 Raptor built in October could have an 11-month old video posted. Mine was built on October 7th, but in 2018 not '17. Kind of anxious to see if my booklet is incorrect like yours was even if my truck is about year newer. Got a screenshot of your corrections just in case!
Working on a 2019 raptor now and my # 1 auxiliary power wire is green and white. So I bet your truck being built late 2018 was updated to the 2019 wiring.
I think Ford changed the wiring colors for 2018 but showed the 2017 colors in the owners manual. My truck was build 11 of 2017. In Feb of 2018 ford sent out a correction to the owners manual showing the changes.
Great video! Just an fyi, leave the relays in place from the rigid harness, then it doesn't matter what switch you wire to because you'll never exceed the amperage. Just my 2 pennies.
Yes you are correct if you grab the power for the lights directly from the battery and only use the aux switches to power the relays. In some cases you may have to do that like powering a winch.or if you have too many light bars. Just be aware there is more wiring and more connections , fuses and relays to go diagnose if something doesn't work. Thanks for the input. It make everybody wiser.
Would a 2017 Lariat SuperCrew come with these same wire feeds for the Auxilary Switches? Some companies offer identical wire looms for different variants of the same car for Cost of Goods reasons. I want to get the Raptor overhead panel and wire in some LED's.
Ford made a change in the raptor wiring from 2017 to 2018. February 2018 Ford had a recall and added and addendum to the 2018 raptor owners manual which corrected the wiring to what I show in my video. I don't believe your Lariat has the same wire harness as Raptor but you can look to see if you have the pass through wire harness where I show it in my video. Good luck
Search on line for 2018 F-150 Owners manual. Click on it that and a drop down menu will appear. Scroll down to Fuse Specification Chart. Click on that and you will see a description of the fuses and locations. Scroll down the right column until you see #3 up fitter relay. You will see to the left that it takes a 10A fuse and it is at location 88 in the power distribution box under the hood. Hope this helps. PS my 2018 Raptor went back to Ford this past August under the lemon law. They were kind enough to give me a 2021 F-150 Platinum power boost in exchange for a few more dollars. In October I place an order for a 2022 Raptor 37". which I hope will be here in the spring. I will be trading in the 2021 power boost which is an excellent truck but not a Raptor. I can't say enough on how well Ford took care of me and will be a customer of theirs for life.
Do those AUX go off when the vehicle is off or are they constant hot? How long do late model raptors run AUX after turning the engine off? Do they go off when the door is opened and closed? Stay on for 15 mins? Thanks.. haven't got my raptor yet, but planning some things out. Great, helpful vid.
The AUX switches go off and on with the ignition switch unlike the other lights that stay on a while after you exited the truck. When you turn the engine off the Aux switches are off. If you turn on the ignition switch without starting the engine the AUX switches will have power. The truck has a safety system built in to it to kill power if there is a draw for more than 10 min.without the engine on. My truck has a keyless system. Not sure about trucks with a key type system. Hope I was of some help.
Can you hook all 6 lights to one switch? or is it best to wire the outter 2 lights to one switch, then middle lights to one and then inner lights to one? did you run them all to the same ground? thanks for the help.
I wired the different style lights to separate switches because only the fog lights are leagle and can be used on public roads. When off road or when no other cars are coming I can use all three sets. When driving through dark neighborhoods I can use only the flood lights with out blinding everyone in their bedrooms. Much to bright to use all the lights at the same time with out making neighbors made.
Mr. Fernandez, can you please explain to me where and how yo spliced each pair back together after cutting the lines below the relay? In your video you show only 3 single red strands emerging to be connected to 3 uplifter switch wires of your choosing. I’d have expected a 2 to 1 connection at each of the 3 uplifter lines? Really appreciate your help. Preparing to install the Rigid kit once it’s off backorder and I want to indeed wire each of the 3 pair of lights to 3 different AUX switches. Many thanks for any clarification you can help with.
Hi Kip. You can do it two ways . You can home run the both red wires from each set of lights back to each of the single up lifter switch wires as you mentioned . I soldered together the red wires form each set of lights behind the grill and covered the joints with heat shrink. If you notice the Rigid wires are a lot thicker then the Ford wires. By only splicing one to one I was able to use smaller and neater in line connectors. I ran the black wires to the ground strap on the right hand fender skirt area. Hope the helps. Don't you just love UA-cam?
