    Seeing such a significant CPU performance/efficiency boost through a BIOS update is indeed quite rare. Typically, updating the BIOS doesn't lead to a noticeable CPU performance increase. This situation might suggest that Intel wasn't fully prepared when launching Meteor Lake. It's possible they aimed to meet their stated goal of releasing it by 2023 and had to roll out the product before the BIOS was fully optimized. Consequently, early reviews highlighting subpar performance left a negative impression on users. The recent BIOS update delivering over a 10% performance boost hasn't received widespread coverage in the media. Premature releases can sometimes result in more harm than benefit.

    • @bogodoyandex9654
      @bogodoyandex9654 8 місяців тому +6

      @@Garrus-ub7mf Compared to the 6+8 RPL, the initial BIOS typically yields an average 6-7% advantage for the 6+8 MTL. Taking R23 as an example, between 20W-35W, there's a 7% improvement, between 35W-70W, a 5% advantage, and above 70W, RPL starts to outperform. With the new BIOS, the MTL is 25% stronger than RPL in the 20-35W range, 16% stronger in the 35-70W range, and the gap narrows to 7-8% above 70W. The new BIOS brings a collective increase of over 15% for MTL in the low-power range and a 6-7% improvement in the high-power range. These enhancements through a BIOS update indicate the early BIOS wasn't fully optimized. Hence, discussing the performance of MTL at present might not hold significant meaning. Around February to March next year should reveal its ultimate performance.

    Thanks for the useful update… I’ll be very interested to see what one of these CPU’s can sustain with a less cut-down cooling solution - something with a second heatpipe and fan assembly that allows it to sustain closer to 40w might make this sing even better

    Hi Matthew, I have a question regarding overall system stability. I'm really on the fence buying this laptop - seeing inconsistent results all over the web, I'm concerned about OS stutters, BSOD or annoying fan noise. In your time testing, did you encounter any of these issues (after the BIOS update)? The work I plan on doing with it is just basic stuff, web browsing, watching content etc. Thanks!

    • @aquibjawed3267

      Hey. Did you buy it? If yes how's the fan noise?

    • @Gu9udan24
      @Gu9udan24 Місяць тому

      @@aquibjawed3267this is my verdict, been using it for browsing, office stuffs, watching movies, Adobe Lightroom, light Premiere edit, ON1 Raw, and games like Football Manager. In the early days, it sucked since some programs often crashed asking to update the driver (especially the graphics driver). Now (after two BIOS updates and several graphics updates), it's been stable. The only concern is its thermal performance. It's so damn easy to get hot. In performance mode, the fan noise is quite loud, very loud even for me personally (since I like doing editing in a silent environment). Battery performance is decent, but after the display is turned off cause of the power setting it gets stuttery when you start using it again. I prefer to use it on charging mode cause it gets more stability. The display is top notch, very sharp and very rich. A decent device, not the best but not that bad also. At its price range, buy it according to your needs. If you're on heavy performance stuff like gaming or heavy video editing, better to check other devices with better thermal and power handling.

    Just a note and I think I’ve said this before but not sure if you saw or mentioned it in any videos but the main reason the M series chips do so well in the Firefox compile test is that they are compiling for ARM64 which is simpler and quicker than compiling for x86_64. It’s hard to really compare Apple’s chips there because there is some overhead of cross compiling so you can’t really target x86 with them in a drag race either.

      Not quite accurate. Even at the same power consumption, there's still a 10-15% improvement. This was tested and confirmed previously by Golden Pig.

    bruh intel basically had reviewers commend the battery life by pumping lower wattage and then later increased the wattage it uses resulting in lower battery life but gains that people are highlighting
    the zenbook could have surely pumped higher wattage before but intel was holding back to make it seem more compelling

      Their GPU and efficiency cores are all made by TSMC at a lower node like the AMD and Apple chips, which is where the efficiency improvement comes from.@@bogodoyandex9654

      @@bogodoyandex9654 I understand there is improvement but 10-15% is not commendable for a generation jump like Meteor Lake. It is a smaller jump that Intel seems to have manipulated to seem huge.

      @@Elektrode I mean a performance increase of 10-15% compared to the 301 BIOS. When comparing it with the RPL's 13700H, the performance improvement varies across different power consumption ranges. Using R23 as a reference, at 15 watts, there's a 29% improvement; at 35 watts, there's a 20% improvement; at 65 watts, there's a 13% improvement; and at 80 watts, there's a 7% improvement. The original BIOS was inferior to the 13700H at over 80 watts, and at 35 watts, it was only 6% better than the 13700H.

      @@bogodoyandex9654 ig there is an improvement, but personally I wouldn't buy after that bios update because most laptops like the zenbook do not have first party power controlling solutions
      its definitely gonna automatically boost the wattage as the bios update makes it do and result in less battery life (this could improve if asus allows us to control wattage directly in zenbooks)
