This was my favorite weapon in the Game on my first run where I got to Hardmode, There's something just so fun about firing it. The windup makes it feel like it has a real kick to it.
I mainly play modded, and am currently doing a masochist mode(fargo soul mod) playthrough. The laser machine gun was extremely good against my duke fishron fight, and actually made it semi-playable. Its great for larger bosses like EoL and Duke, but falls off a bit against longer range, smaller bosses
They should buff it so that it when it shoots its just one big projectile and when it lands it just deletes the game off your steam and gives you a game ban
Post golem weapons are so often overshadowed considering you can almost effortlessly kill cutlist and get the superior pillar weapons, makes me wish cultist was harder or there was another boss inbetween to make going for these strong weapons more worth it.
So, when considering a weapon and its advantages, you have to look at the whole picture. When I look at the LMG (laser machine gun) I see a weapon that has comparable DPS to the razorpine and worse but similar DPS to the bubble gun, while also having long-range and fairly accurate projectiles. So, if we compare the range of the two weapons mentioned above to the LMG, the LMG clearly has an advantage. The razorpine's pine needles fall out of the air after a short amount of time, and the bubble gun's bubbles don't reach that far. But the LMG's lasers go far. Along with that, the lasers are fairly focused, compared to the bubble gun's bubbles which spread out if you aren't at close range, and the razorpine's pine needles, which also spread out (but not as much as the bubble gun's bubbles). The LMG's lasers are not only long-range, accurate, and have fairly high DPS, but they can also be fired continuously*. So, compared to a weapon like the charged blaster cannon, the LMG is incredible against a single target, because again, it can be fired continuously*. And I know that the charged blaster cannon isn't meant for single target usage, but still, the fact that it will stop after a certain amount of time whether or not you run out of mana remains if you use it against a single target or a crowd of enemies. *I will say that the caveat to the LMG's "unlimited" use time is that you need lots of mana potions. But, you won't get stacking mana sickness if you use higher level mana potions because the mana sickness will wear off before you run out of mana again. I make the point of the LMG's "infinite" use time because, in my mind, I constantly compare the LMG to most ranger weapons. After all, both have really good range and long use times. The LMG is incredible for focusing on a target that has fast, erratic movements and that is also far away. For example, Betsy. I used the LMG for Betsy, and let me say, it is incredible. It takes a while, and you have to use mana potions, but if you are playing on a console version (which I do, I play on Switch), you can just lock on target and you don't even have to think. So, my conclusion is that when you look at a weapon, just remember that there are so many things to take into consideration. Weapons in Terraria can be used in so many different situations, and there are so many different ways to play Terraria with its weapons. Also, Betsy's sword weapon should be used in crafting the zenith.
I find it to be a very _solid_ weapon through and through. It’s my weapon of choice against the Empress of Light, or for killing the Pillar itself from a distance. Their hitboxes are so big that I can shred them from a biome away if I know where they are.

I only go after her for the insignia. Generally speaking though the Laser Machine Gun suffers from a high mana cost, being somewhat annoying to get and being outclassed in its progression tier.
