  • I needed to rant about putting hands near the needle when the embroidery machine is stitching because it's SO VERY DANGEROUS! Many people get a needle through the finger which often results in infection. ( ఠ ͟ʖ ఠ)
Embroidery machines are safe when you have a healthy respect for them. If you think you can get away with putting your hands in there - THIS video was made for you. Don't let your brain trick you into a trip to the hospital emergency room!

is what I use for pulling threads out of the way, holding things down while stitching (save your fingers!) or for pushing threads into place when threading your machine. You could use a stilleto, chopstick or even a pencil. Just stop risking your fingers, OK? Please? I'm begging you. Save your fingers. (ʘ ͜ʖ ʘ)

Hello to my favorite embroidery teacher of the internet. I keep following you. I had to take a break from everything. Had a major and very invasive lower back surgery one year ago. I am still healing process that can takes 2 years. Went and going through so much pain...But people like yourself help me make through one more day. Much Love.

Aww, I'm sorry you're having a rough time Fatima. I hope your back gets better. It's good to take a break once in a while. That's when all the inspiration strikes.

You're a phenomenal teacher! I'm not even an embroiderer (yet) and I've got a fantastic foundation for when I buy a machine. ❤️

Very good reminder! I use a silicone spatula and other similar tools on the rare occasions I need to adjust something in the hoop. I've been doing more pattern cutting and I wear Teflon gloves so I don't accidentally cut off the tip of a finger.

Ah yes, the dreaded rotary cutter is another finger stealer in the sewing room. I like the idea of a silicone spatula - thanks for sharing that.

I don’t know why we think we need to stick out fingers in there ! This is a good reminder.

I understand the temptation. It's like the siren song of embroidery machines. 🧜🏻‍♂️

Thank you for this reminder I did need it! Especially your reminder to Just turn off the machine. I do love that lock button if that's what you call it. I use my stiletto and my plastic chop stick. Im considering getting that nifty hook you showed,.

one problem is that it's a really dumb problem so people think it only happens to idiots, which isn't true. also. remember how difficult it is to remove a jammed needle, imagine that, plus it being jammed in your finger

good points! The people I know who had this happen were all smart people and very careful with their machines.

Been then and did that with a multi needle! If you need help and no one is there to help you, you are literally stuck when the safety mechanism activates and the needle is in your finger 😢

Oh NO! I didn't even think of that. And the handwheel in the back of the machine would be hard to reach in that situation. I'm so sorry that happened to you! That sound terribly traumatic. I hope your finger is better now.

That's why they invented the Putple Thingy.

YES! The purple thingy is a great tool too! I've switched to the spring hook because it's longer, but still use good ol' purple on my single needle machine.

Done it twice, fortunately missed the bone both times. And yes it really really hurts. 😢
