Phil, I love when you share information about roads and neighborhoods (i.e. when is a 2-Lane road a collector?) because it gives me things to notice in real life and share with others! One of my favorite things about your channel is getting to learn and then recognize. You teach things so clearly and it's very appreciated.
I started talking about roadway hierarchy to my mom, and she just turned and said "Where the hell do you learn all these things?" I love it. Thanks, Phil! 👍🏻
I think it is about time we start expanding across the river, because that land is so valuable and can be used for so many uses, like a tourist districts and suburbs.
At 7:40, there is a vanilla workaround for the issue of the two lines using the same platform: the subway trains start on the right side of the metro station. So if you redo the yellow line starting on the right side of the station, they should no longer conflict.
Going to give that a shot. Disappointing, because both of those lines are very long. Wonder if I can just remove it from this station and add it back...hmmm
Yes this is correct. In vanilla it seems to depend whether you start the line at the station or end the line at the station as to which side the metro stops go. There’s some slightly odd built in directionality.
Imagine a celeb basketball game on the beach… they get off the helicopters and just walk a few yards to the court. That’d be dreamy for an espn event or something
Agreed. @City Planner Plays, might need to use eminent domain in the tourist district but those three line stations might help mitigate the metro congestion and allow for the trains to pick up the 500-600 passengers waiting
"We're probably ok with deathcare" famous last words? Did you not notice your graveyard capacity of 24000 is completely used up? you have 24000 buried people.
I like those intercity bus stations the way they are! It reminds me of how Chicago has a greyhound station at 95th street, and then another one downtown on Harrison.
@@CityPlannerPlays In two of my cities I tried using the helicopters like that and I learned that they are made to move a small amout of ppl from/to hard to access points. If you put a very desireble rout like that, they will just flood the stops with hundreds of ppl and despawn on a loop - completely broken. And in one of those cities I didn't had the free public transport policy, so it's not that.
I was really interested to see what happened with the helicopter stops, the sims seem to prioritize it as a mode of transit and it brought my last city to a screeching halt with thousands of passengers waiting. Have yet to find a solution!
I think the helicopter mechanic is broken in cities skyline. The sims will use this because it's the shortest way from A to B even it's way more expensive in real life. Am I wrong?
It's totally broken, but I did just right at this moment think of a possible solution, the problem is basically that of speed, so if the flight paths were very indirect so the trip time increases it might slow the game breaking demand.
Nice Job! I’m looking forward to the other side of the river. I think your videos are really good. I like your attention to detail and your explanation of city planning principles.
"Morning Mulligans with Phil" LMAO - LOVE it! The billboards are amazing! 19:12 - Hunter Crescent is spelled wrong. Another fantastic episode, thanks for sharing!

Really exciting expanding the campus! One suggestion--I work at a university with two main campuses (i.e. not a satellite campus) and we have a shuttle that takes folks express from the downtown campus up to the suburban one. Just a couple of stops in the neighborhoods where most of the grad students and professors live, otherwise a straight shot. It's way, way faster than the regular public transit options. Students who double major or take classes in the different schools would really benefit, and so would faculty who do interdisciplinary research, or who need to do field work at the new nature reserve!
I second this: UC Davis' main campus is 20 miles from their teaching hospital/innovation center in Sacramento (UC Davis Medical Center/Aggie Square). They have an electric bus that goes between every 30ish minutes so students, faculty, patients, investors, and the public can get between the Davis campus and the Sacramento Campus.
The "typing up loose ends" title made me real scared for a second! so glad to hear it's just to the other side of the river. And thank you, Phil of the future! I was so sad there wans't at least paths to the uni XD
i think spreading some of the university buildings across the river would be a good thing to do in the future. now you are kind of limiting who can get to the university because it is all in one small area. lovely episode! i missed verde beach.
I’m so invested in this series I feel an attachment to the city, lol. We need those “I❤️VB” shirts and bumper stickers. How kool would it be to have a bumper sticker that says that!? It would be an inside joke and all us subscribers that “know” would be able to identify one another and give a subtle nod, like yeah we affiliated. Anyhow, I really have a stake in this city. You should have an express bus line that connects the university campuses to each other as if it is run by the university. UMN has a disconnected campus in the twin cities and runs a campus connector line that is free so students can get between the Minneapolis and St Paul campuses quickly.
FYI ... one of your helicopters paths went right over a Tv mast :) could be an issue well flying low and fast... also you need a direct bus connection from campus to campus
I think it would be cool to redevelop that green corridor alongside Kellerhouse. Maybe green buildings just like in Lewis Market District and dense landscaping vegetation!
Did you add a groundskeeper at the new university area I know you said you was going to but didn't see it go in great video Verde beach was what got me watching your channel
As always great video you seemed to forget the groundskeeper for the new campus area, as well as this would be a perfect reason to get the underground system extended over there, from the main campus. when you cross the river you should think about one of the other universities, Verde Beach is big enough now and demand when you brought the screen up is high enough to support two large universities, this would also allow for interuniversity sports games, islanders are one team, main land Verde support the other team, nice bit of rivalry occurring
The dual island sunken station he placed at the beginning of the episode reminds me of a station we have in the Bay Area called Balboa Park on our Bay Area Rapid Transit.
22:01 “I’m gonna lower taxes” Proceeds to click the tax raise policy instead of the tax relief policy, which is on the bottom of that section of the policy page.
You should really add a book store to that new campus node so the students don't have to travel all the way back to the main campus to buy their books! could use a bus line or somethin too to get students back and forth!
CPP - "I'm going to be very mindful to put in city services first so I don't have to use eminent domain" Also CPP - "Why hello there residential house. Have you met my bulldozer?"
In Myrtle Beach, SC they offer helicopter tours of the city for tourists and during the summer you see lines of helicopters, one after the other, just like in Verde Beach. So it’s not as crazy as you think. In Myrtle the helicopters are just for sightseeing and not for transit, however.
Helicopters and blimps are very direct routes with low capacity: cims will mostly prefer them for their speed, and queue up a lot, until they get bored and take their cars instead. The game is a bit unrealistic on this, as it doesn't let you use it as a luxury connection between the airport and the tourist areas: they immediately get overcrowded and unusable. I think the best way to use them is to connect remote areas, e.g. in my city they connect to ore mines up the mountains, and to small faraway islands with just a couple attraction points.
I just love this city. Despite its "vanillaness" it feels so real and so organic and really a place where I would want to live and work. Ideal for relaxing after a stressful day. Can't wait to see which direction VB will take in the future!
You should make a lift bridge across the water to the island. I don’t know if that is possible but it would look so cool! Especially right at the point where the river and ocean meet
I think its so fun that verde beach is going to be known for its unique helicopter transit! Can't imagine that breaks even but maybe we get just a ton of very rich tourists. New campus area is great!
For helicopter route, because the stop only has one pad and the vehicles are going in two directions you end up with big queues in the air. I find putting a pair of stops (one for each direction) helps to smooth things out.
A fishing lake in the new nature reserve would be good, some interesting assets that weren’t used in the original. And would add a nice change of scenery there. Plus would help with the fires which are no doubt to happen!
I think there should be a campus bus line connecting the main campus, the university sports complex, and the new satellite campus. This would 100% happen irl.
at 11:04 you should have the White line on top, Yellow in the middle, and Brown on the bottom. Currently they all have to cross each other to enter the terminal.
I love the episode, a lot more detail in your city than would be in mine. However, there is something minor that no one else had mentioned. When you went on taxation for station heights, you said you wanted to lower taxes for quicker development, instead you picked the edict raising taxes on offices. When your city decides to hop across the river, could you build a massive riverside park with heavy commercial slightly more inland? Love the series!
With the free public transit policy I bet the Helicopters are free to ride on too, and I know I would definitely take them as often as possible, just for the heck of it.
Hey Phil, I'm saying this yet again. Most of your airport island tourist (be it by boat or plane) are heading toward Gombe. You still have no direct connections there. Extending the Party Line to the airport is one good solution, although I think you'll need several. Also, would you please consider doing more "on the ground views." Following residents on their journeys. I'd love it if you had us guess at the beginning of the episodes where we might be from the ground view. We know the city so well from "planner level" but I think it would be cool to see it from "citizen level" every now and again. Thanks for the awesome content!
Behind where you put the extension of the college, maybe make a forest preserve dedicated to college, a fenced off area, and then make a bigger forest preserve behind that area, and have people pay too see it, some campfires and a few nice paths to hike on while not disturbing the college students studying some earth science or geography in their area.
Before you move on, your university needs some pedestrian connectivity to the green neighborhood next to it. And it would be good to have a University Shuttle connecting the main campus and the spur campus.
The pink/purple line stops inside the new intercity bus terminal, and then comes straight out and stops on the road immediately outside it. Definitely loving Verde Beach, the jump across the river, I remember you mentioned in the 1st episode. The idea of a bus line direct between the 2 uni campuses would be rational I think. I remember you put in a taxi stand by the airport, did you ever put any others in the city? Particularly downtown, and the tourism district?
I really like the idea of a spread out university. The university in my city (Southampton) has its main campus in the middle of the city and its oceanography campus right on the port on its own special plot of land.
Yeah - it's Tuesday! Will the cims get post offices? Stay tuned to see! lol - love the billboards! I don't think Lady Bird Johnson would approve of taking out trees for them though (!)
