      +Dan Whiteford There is a learning curve and it will be better when I get the longer flocking. Thanks Dan

    Very interesting. If, after awhile the soldered wire at the screen doesn't make adequate contact you can make a hole through the screen and put a small screw, washers and nuts on it and use that as a terminal. I think the wire and solder will oxidize after awhile and won't make adequate contact.

      +Bruce Boschek I may be changing the screen, since Cutworm told me that stainless doesn't conduct electricity real well and I am finding that perhaps the screen is too small for my purposes. More experimentation! Thanks for stopping by Bruce.

      +The Shade Tree Fix-it Man I thought about this as I was going to sleep last night. If you have a good mechanical connection stainless conducts well enough. Stainless is only very weakly magnetic, but that plays no role in electrostatic charges. The size is probably more of an issue.

    you made that look easy , and didn't take you too long ,, about 20 mins ? lol if this fly swatter company ever learns what we modelers are doing with their product the price is going to jump to 20 bucks ,, lol ,, thanks George for the little build

      +sparky107107 You can buy one of these rigs already made for $25 plus shipping on eBay, but having seen others do it and with limited $$ I figured to do it myself. Total investment was less than $5. Thanks for stopping by Dave.

    Those fly swatters probably work better for what you're doing then an actual fly swatter. Off to watch the 2nd part. Have a good'nnn

    I started to make one but never finished it. I bought the fly swatter last summer and bought the screen last week. Now to see if I get it made by the summer. lolScott

      +Scott Downey I have been wanting to do this for some time and finally had the $$ to make the unit and the flocking at the same time. If you have steadier hands than I do and your soldering iron works better than mine, it can be done is less than a half hour I think. Go for it Scott. You will enjoy the process and the results.

    Is a negative ion generator really necessary for a static grass applicator? If so, which element in the fly swatter is the ion generator?

      The Shade Tree Fix-it Man dude, I love it, I've bought 3 bug zappers from harbor freight. Idk anything about ions , but + and - is all you need. Works awesome

    • @daveyjones5702
      @daveyjones5702 6 років тому

      a negative ion generator is an alternative option to the bug zapper circuit.
      it does basically the same thing.
