  • Welcome to another episode of Tiny Tims Minis! This week we’re building one of the most important tools for any terrain or diorama building, a static grass applicator! We’re going to be using some inexpensive items you can get from your local hardware store or Walmart. What you’ll need is:
    * A bug zapper
    * A container to hold the grass
    * 1 1/2 PVC end cap (or one that fits the end of your zapper)
    * A small sifter with a fine mesh
    It all cost me about 20 bucks to make. So if you’re trying to step up your dioramas and terrain boards, don’t waste anytime, let’s get started.

    Old vid but I have a question. Have you ever removed the resistor from the zapper or tried a lower one? This should give you more voltage for more static. Have seen people do that with zapper to be more powerful but not with the applicator home build. I thinks a lower resistor would be better than no resistor. Just wondering.. cause $75+ is too much for one of these things.

    This is my 1st time seeing your channel, but just wanted to say nevermind the naysayers. You're keepin' it real and some people expect perfection instead. You're a human being, and you act like it, rather than being a perfectionist, super-uptight robot. Nice vid, Tim, keep on keepin' on. #subbed

    Hello, I am building this and I get a little spark when I touch both ends but my grass won't stand up. Do you know why?

      It could be a couple things.
      Your wire that’s connected to your mesh might be a disconnected on the inside of the bug zapper. Or the ground wire might be disconnected. Check the wires on the inside.
      Do you have an alligator clip attached to the ground wire or is it just a free standing wire?
      Touching the ends might have also shorted it somewhere.
      Does the zapper run on D batteries or double A?

    I am about to go buy a zapper to build one. I tried to build one using a 6KV negative Ion generator but i think I got a Crappy piece of junk from china.

    Not sure how I feel about promoting twisting wires together over a proper connection. Proper methods should always be used. And that belch... don't be disgusting
