From Stevie and Double Trouble's second and final performance at Austin City Limits, in 1989. Stevie was clean, sober and absolutely on top of his game playing before his fellow Texans. Highly recommend Riviera Paradise from this show, a song he wrote and considered his masterpiece. Once you see him play it, you'll have witnessed the full range of his genius. Thanks for getting back to Stevie. So much to learn about this special soul.
I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The next morning was one of the saddest days of my life. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy.
I appreciate what you young bucks are doing .. Check out Clarence Gatemouth Brown ... He was a truly Great artist who killed the guitar and the fiddle and harmonica...
Can't believe it's been 33 years since his death...still utterly tragic...can only imagine what wizardry he'd be throwing at people were he around today...
This is a cover of a Buddy Guy song from 1967. Someone mentioned below that it's reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix's cover of Earl King's "Come On (Let The Good Times Roll)." Of course, the riff goes all the way back to Louis Jordan's "Let The Good Times Roll" from 1946. So the line really goes from Jordan to King to Hendrix to Guy and ultimately to Vaughan on this riff.
SRV would often say he didn't like to sing much, but the truth is, he was a very good R and B singer, and it complimented his guitar playing beautifully.
His soul would come out through his fingers when he put that guitar in his hands. I still watch his videos in awe of his talent. RIP Stevie Ray. You are truly missed. ❤️
Someone said...that guitar went to heaven because stevie played the he'll out of it 😂 and that he does! Life without you...capital theater is a must see beautiful song he wrote for a friend of his
every Stevie Ray performance was different but off the chart............there are 4 versions of Voodoo Chile............you guys need to see the Tokyo and Nashville versions
The Greatest Blues Guitarist Ever !!! 👍🎸🎶 So sad he's been gone 32 years now !! What a tragedy 😢 It's still bothers me when I hear his music, I just saw him 3 mths earlier in concert then that awful Helo crash in 1990', I was broken for a long time !! 🙏
Thank you for your reaction! I had the honor of seeing SRV 3X, when he passed thru NYC. You just could not sit still during one of his shows. My friends and I nearly got thrown out of Radio City Music Hall for dancing in the aisles, we didn't care! He was the GOAT, IMHO.
Reese Wynans almost became a member of The Allman Brothers in the very beginning. He had been jamming with them while Greg was trying to start a solo career in L.A. Duane coaxed Greg to return home, because "Nobody can sing these songs but my little brother." You guys rock!!
Between watching reaction videos and listening on my own, I've probably heard or watched this performance hundreds of times. Back in the day I somehow copied this to cassette tape or CD so I could play it in the car. To this day, when Stevie Lay's in to the solo in this song, I get a little emotional. Man, I miss that guy. Just so good, so perfect. "Couldn't Stand the Weather" is another smokin tune from this broadcast of Austin City Limits.
I was so lucky to have seen him live back in the day. You think this shit was good, He was unbelievable live. He'd break a string and start playing in a different key while they brought him a new guitar and would never miss a single note while changing them out. He just did stuff that wasn't mortal. Badest cat with a guitar on the planet...EVER!!!
A shout for Buddy Guy (who is doing his last tour, I think). "Damn Right I've Got The Blues". We saw buddy in Tulsa just before the lockdowns started. GREAT show and if you get the chance to see a living old-school blues master, DO IT, you'll be thrilled.
I was supposed to see Jimmie Vaughn and Billy Gibbons(ZZ Top) at Antone's in Austin, Tx the other night but Jimmie had double bypass surgery the night before obviously didn't make the show. Let's all wish Jimmie a full and speedy recovery. ✌❤🎸
kevin...really? A year later so he must be doing very well. I saw him with The Fab Thunder...in 1990 at a Jazz festival in Houston. There were also Etta James, John Lee Hooker, and lastly, BB King whom I didn't see.
SRV. One of the best of all times. So many to check out from him. He did a concert in 1985 and no one liked him because they did not like his style. But David Bowie was in the audience and he asked him to play on one of his songs. After he did that, and peole realized it was Stevie, he blew up and went on his own. You need to check out Texas Flood and Voodo Child.
The circumstance Michael is referring to in 1985 saying they didn't like his style is from the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and took place in 1982 (that played in 1985 also) and they got some boos initially because they had been booked toward the end of the all acoustic night! So the audience was on one track all night and they weren't expecting to have their faces peeled back by the loud, passionate, did I mention loud(?) force of nature that took the stage. David Bowie indeed loved what he heard and the rest is history
SRV, I never get tired of listening to his genius. Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi list him as one of several musicians as influences. You loved Susan's vocals, now see her guitar playing you will hear SRV in her. Tedeschi Trucks Band "THE SKY IS CRYING" ua-cam.com/video/iWPntKAWvHs/v-deo.html "I PITY THE FOOL" ua-cam.com/video/6DjtB0Vb90U/v-deo.html
Double Trouble was an amazing band in their own right. I've seen SRV with and without them at concerts, and even when Clapton and Buddy Guy were playing alongside him, I would still choose DT as his backup any day.
Nowadays Reese Wynans plays keyboards with Joe Bonamassa. To see just how good he still is, watch him rockin' the keys on Joe's "High Class Girl" live from the Ryman. Also check out Stevie's "Couldn't Stand The Weather" from this same 1989 Austin City Limits appearance. It includes band introductions & each one gets to shine. 💙☮💙☮💙☮💙☮💙☮💙
Of all the people who give reactions to bands, you guys are the best.Thank you for not talking incessantly and really appreciating the quality of these great bands.Keep on rocking my Brothers.
Thank you guys! Love SRV. From the same performance on Austin City Limits he performed "Leave My Girl Alone". If you can please reviue it, I think you will like it.
Reese Wynans on keyboard, now tours with Joe Bonamassa. “The worst thing for me was that Stevie Ray had been sober for three years and was at his peak. When he played that night, he had all of us standing mere with our jaws dropped. I mean, Robert Cray and Jimmie Vaughan and Buddy Guy were just watching in awe. There was no one better than him on this planet. Really unbelievable,” Eric Clapton said.
Yes this was on one of his albums…this concert was one of his best! This was in 1989. Watch the version of Voodoo Child at this concert, it is off the charts. His version of Stevie Wonders Superstition is really good as well. Tightrope, Leave my Little girl alone, many of his hits. As you said he never disappoints. SRV imho is the GOAT on guitar!
"I love Stevie. He brought it back. He brought me back. I owe him a lot, quite honestly. He was the baddest of all the white boys." -- Etta James (from her autobiography)
This is a very short cut off his first and phenomenal album. I remember I bought it shortly after it came out and I ended up seeing him three times before he died. But this song always got to me for some reason. I'm a musician and I often expose people that say they can't play anything at all to Mary Had a Little Lamb on the piano or the guitar. We all know it from childhood. But of course Stevie takes it and runs with it and it's a real delight. Check out the studio cut sometime. As I recall it's really short like maybe 2 minutes or so.
This is a Buddy Guy tune who influenced so many of these guys. From Eric Clapton, SRV and the ALLMAN Brothers etc. you guys have a happy and prosperous New Year! *** When you get into Lynyrd Skynyrd I’ll share with those groups too! ***
Thanks for making this day a great one with your reaction to SRV!!!! I love your channel. I can’t wait to see your reaction to Life Without You live from The Capitol Theater.
Love the channel. And the SRV. The song is a great opportunity for them all to just keep on kicking some more ass. IMHO. Keep going with it. It is working. Yes....
the Bass player is the great Tommy Shannon........cut his chops touring with Johnny Winter in the 60's ......played at the original WoodStock Music Festival in 69.
Love your reviews. SRV started out with Double Trouble on bass and drums and later added a keyboard player, was the cherry on top! I saw him live in 1988 in a small venue. Amazing show!
AWESOME job my guys! Even though the nursery rhyme was written by whoever lol, the musical interpretation was done by Buddy Guy. He was Stevie's closest friend his entire career and it's that reason why it was included on Stevie's debut album. Out of sheer respect, admiration and love for his friend, not to mention, played at every one of his gigs. I was with them both at Alpine the night he died and was standing across from Buddy and Eric Clapton as he played it. Eric couldn't stop shaking his head in disbelief, while Buddy just smiled. Someday we can get together, raise a glass of bourbon and I'll bring my pics from that night...... be safe, be cool and Happy New Year guys!
Side note Reese Wynans was part of the jam session of what would become the Allman Brothers Band. Tommy Shannon played with Edgar Winters in the late 60's
Thank you guys for more SRV & Double Trouble. Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone see them for the 1st time even though this isn't the first. Stank face required. Great reaction. You mention him playing lead & rhythm, he couldn't read music.
It was funny that you said smoke was coming out the back of that guitar - because when I see how that guitar responds to his every stroke and wails and moans, I imagine that back in the hotel room after a concert, the guitar is in bed with Stevie Ray and it's smoking a cigarette.
this is my 5th vid in a row. I like the way you boys react to music that I LOVE. Airplay Beats this is what I got to say to you, "Rock on Airplay Beats Rock on"
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Buddy Guy performed alot together and were close, on August 27,1990 when Stevie Ray was killed after performing a show at The Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy Wisconsin Buddy Guy was one of the guys who performed with Stevie Ray along with Eric Clapton, Robert Clay and Stevie Ray's older brother Jimmie Vaughan. Mary Had A Little Lamb was written by Buddy Guy in1968 and released it July 26,1968 Buddy Guy released it. Eric Clapton said he was at a club called The Marquee Club in 1965 and watched Buddy Guy play his guitar above his head, with his teeth and picked his guitar which you see Stevie Ray did alot. My husband and I went to see Buddy Guy about 4 years ago and he was amazing, he took one of the drummers sticks and started playing his guitar and he was sweating so he got a towel wiped his face and started playing his guitar with the towel and that man is old 😂
I recommend to y'all "Leave My Girl Alone" from that same 1989 Austin City Limits show. I'm sure you won't be disappointed! "Tightrope" is pretty damn good too. I ain't lyin fellers
Guys you will love his "Sound Check". It has over 22 million views so you know it is 🔥. How many sound checks do you know that have 22 million views? I'll wait...
Its an old Buddy Guy song. Buddy was one of Stevie's heroes. He always gave credit to his heroes. Thank goodness. I'd probably never have known about Buddy, or Albert King otherwise.
The studio version is my favorite Stevie song, from his first album Texas Flood, no organ player in the Band at that time, also, did you know, before Stevie went solo, he played with David Bowie, and made the hits LET'S DANCE & CHINA GIRL.dig, I did not know that was SRV on the Bowie stuff, nobody had heard of him yet, I heard PRIDE AND JOY on the radio and the rest is history, also, this song is in the movie Dusk Till Dawn during the bar scene, love the Band in that movie, The Tarantulas.
I do believe that I recall hearing about that certain and very special SRV guitar is supposedly if not thee one of the world's🌎 most valuable guitars 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑

Second the Riveria Paradise
True I just wish they’d close their eyes the first time on the album then do the live version later but that song like Europa is very dear to me
Closing out his greatest hits album is how I remember it pretty sure 99 by Toto was the same way
I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The next morning was one of the saddest days of my life. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy.
@@kevinmalone2218 devastating. It can choke me up all these years later. I’m glad for anyone who got to see him. I never did.
This man's talent was unbelieveable he was in a league of his own the best to ever do it
“Pride and Joy”
“Look at Little Sister”
“Life by the Drop”
RIP SRV ... The old blues players took Stevie under their wings ... Dayum I miss the great music ...
I appreciate what you young bucks are doing .. Check out Clarence Gatemouth Brown ... He was a truly Great artist who killed the guitar and the fiddle and harmonica...
Reese Wynans is a great keyboard player too! Love SRV!
There's a UA-cam video of SRV on stage during a sound check, most impressive.
THAT TONE
Can't believe it's been 33 years since his death...still utterly tragic...can only imagine what wizardry he'd be throwing at people were he around today...
I keep wondering what it would be like to see him play with Derek and Susan and Warren. 😢 Joe bonamassa too.
What a heavenly band there must be in Heaven... and if there's not a band, I ain't going 😊
When you play Mary had a little lamb to a standing ovation, you know you are the GOAT !
This is a cover of a Buddy Guy song from 1967. Someone mentioned below that it's reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix's cover of Earl King's "Come On (Let The Good Times Roll)." Awesome tune guys.
Mary Had A Little Lamb is a song written by one SRV biggest influences, Buddy Guy.

YESSSSSSS!
Only Stevie could turn this song into one of the best blues tunes ever.
So happy to see you guys have found Stevie Ray Vaughan! I was fortunate enough to see him live and this is the nursery songs my kids get.
Great song
Just saw Joe Bonamsa a few months back and he had this keyboard player in his band
He's outstanding
The best version of a nursery rhyme ever!

Man was a national treasure....
He sure does take you on a guitar journey.
The man is Sociopolitical bad ass, that he turn a 170 yr old poem/ nursery rhyme, into a jamming ass hit..!!! Crazy...!
Reese Wynans almost became a member of The Allman Brothers in the very beginning. He had been jamming with them while Greg was trying to start a solo career in L.A. Duane coaxed Greg to return home, because "Nobody can sing these songs but my little brother."
You guys rock!!
Allman Brothers got the next best keyboard player when they added Chuck Leavell after Duane died in 1971. Both them 2 keyboard guys just amazing !
He could play the “em-effin” ABCs and it would sound phenomenal!!! Have loved him forever and he’s truly missed!!! 👍❤️😎

Austin City Limits....an unreal place to see a show! Stevie at his best for sure just as @midnightesunblues mentioned
His "Little Wing" live at El Mocambo will change your life.
It was funny that you said smoke was coming out the back of that guitar - because when I see how that guitar responds to his every stroke and wails and moans, I imagine that back in the hotel room after a concert, the guitar is in bed with Stevie Ray and it's smoking a cigarette.
NOW.... Thats how you do a nursery rhyme.
So can you dig it , hell yeal. Sweet memories, and a little sad. Keep rocking 😎
