So glad I was a teenager when thids song was made. Wish they made music like this today. Thank you tube for allowing me to see and hear my favorite artists as they were.
On this day in 1963 {January 27th} Neil Sedaka appeared on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... He performed a medley of three songs; "Happy Birthday Sweet 16" {#6 in 1962} "Calendar Girl" {#4 in 1961} and "My Yiddish Mama" {didn't make the Top 100}... "Happy Birthday Sweet 16" reached #3 in U.K.; while "Calendar Girl" reached #1 on the Japanese 'Utamatic Song' chart and #8 in the U.K. R.I.P. Mr. Sullivan {1901 - 1974} and Mr. Sedaka turns 74 years old this coming March 13th...
Wow...I came across this youtube site today..Couldnt believe it said by Guns N Roses lover. This song has been playing in my mind lately like a broken record, and so i searched youtube to see why lol :) Its awesome.
Ahh, The Girl With The Horned Rim Glasses. She always stood out because of those glasses. Shindig even did a song all about her, with her in it called, The Girl With The Horned Rim Glasses.
i wish neil sedaka sang this song to me this year it wud so groovy cause all my birthdays have been crap...oh well happy belated birthday to me tra la la la la
I don't know if anyone remembers but in the late '60's early 70's there was a comedy team of Shields and Yarnell. They appeared on Ed Sullivan several times. The dancer in the front on the left was Yarnell. She passed several years ago
After rewatching this many times and looking at the photos available of LY on Shindig - I am convinced that the front left woman is NOT Lorene Yarnell - smile teeth not the same , eyes narrower, nose nasolabial fold, oral commissures and smile lines do not look the same as the more blunted features in the Getty images of LY when she appeared on Shindig - people certainly change with age but - I am convinced she isn't the same person. Anyone know LY or the woman on the front left personally or if Robert Shields that can personally convey whether this Lorene Yarnell or not? I would love to see a channel devoted to the recognition of the background cast of those in the entertainment industry - they would have some great stories.
If you check you will see the dancers. @@wg7644 Who were the Shindig dancers? Series regulars Others included Maria Gahva, Lorene Yarnell (later of the mime team Shields and Yarnell) Diane Stuart, Pam Freeman, Gina Trikinis, Marianna Picora, Virginia Justus, Rini Jarmon and Carol Shelyne,
wonder when this Shindig episode was aired? my girlfriend-now wife-was 16 when I was dating her in high school way back in the mid 60's...always have loved this song...thanks

Neil Sedaka was great, even singing live
NS one of the best ever singer/song writers and still going strong
Life was much, much simpler then, I am sixty-four and am glad I grew up in this time frame...
Boy , was it ever !!
A must for every girl's 16th Birthday Party...lovely song xo
It’s a shame girls today don’t care to use these songs in their sweet sixteen anymore...
@@bensuarez8688 I made it a point to play (and sing!) this for each of my daughters' 16th birthdays. (Whether they liked it or not!)

The girl front and on Sedaka's left is so much smoother than the others.
凄く感動しますね~💘😁☝️今では得意の一曲です。😃🎵
In my opinion Neil Sedaka is the best.

@@wg7644 she had a lot of cosmetic surgery later on so was probably unrecognizable during the shindig days
@@lendrury2771 Interesting - she was the featured dancer here - almost front and center - even grabbed a little of the spotlight LOL
She did it look like she was out too far.
If you check you will see the dancers.

A great song...Was it really difficult to find 16 years old girls for the video instead of those jokers playing young ?
I wish this was so for every 16 yr old girl but alas that's fantasy.
+Tonithenightowl your right, this is a fantasy for a lot of 16 yr old girls. sometimes I wish they never had cell phones!
