Sounds like a mistake when you remove the context. Full sentence was "Pokemon that function similarly as fire-type wall-breakers..." Emboar is a fire-type wall-breaker. Bewear and Pangoro function similarly to it, but doesn't mean they are fire-types. Dumb comment
@@SSJ2Pikachu I can see your original comment in my notifications, you condescending ass. The full sentence is completely clear and grammatically correct. You're just an idiot.
"It was difficult to justify it over Pokemon that function similarly as fire-type wall-breakers, such as the monstrous Bewear and Pangoro." There is nothing wrong or confusing about that sentence at all.
Why does Emboar have arguably the most varied moveset of the unovan starters? It gets scald... Samurott (my favorite unova starter) gets Sacred Sword Knock Off Megahorn Ice Beam and Grass Knot. So his coverage is almost on par with Emboar. But unfortunately it does not have Reckless Flare Blitz and Contrary Leaf Storm like Emboar and Serperior.
Always liked Emboar more than the other Fire Fighting Pokémon because it tried to do something different compared to the interchangeable Infernape and Blaziken. Does help that Reckless is one of my favorite abilities and its Life Orb utility was really useful even if it ends up being slightly less damage than Choice Band overall

@@3.2187_Kilometres Your "point" was that people were complaining about fire/fighting mons but not grass/poison mons. I gave you the justification, and at no point was Emboar, Infernape or even Blaziken(the so called "worst pokemon in existence") even mentioned. So yes, it changes your point. Maybe not your point of view, but your point was invalidated, since you implied that pokemon fans, myself included, were being unreasonably spiteful towards fire/fighting types, while conveniently forgetting to mention that little, important detail.
I remember so clearly how disappointed I was when Emboar was revealed as the third Fire/Fighting starte r in a row. The combination is great but that really was too much and felt really weird and not special anymore. Also I am a bit surprised you did not mention Z-Moves. I am not that active in competetive play but I had the feeling that a lot were playing Emboar with Z-Moves because it has acces to so many moves with high attack.
If emboar wasn't a starter then I think a lot of people wouldn't be as hung up on its typing. I mean, yeah 3 fire/fighting starters in a row, but if you think about it the type combo is exclusive to those starter lines. So it's a pretty rare type all things considered. Sammurot totally got robbed of the fighting type, yeah.
There’s not a point to us a z move on emboar, yes he has an arsenal of high bp moves, but choice band with the reckless ability would heavily output more damage on average, it was hard to do damage calcs since his move set for ru in gen 7 was really good at checking a lot but against snorlax it’s flare blitz would do 74.6-88.1% with this combo. Compared to the average after the one time use z move flare blitz which would do 50-58.9 to snorlax. It’s just better to have the consistent damage with emboar then trying to blow one mon up. As well as without choice band emboar can’t 1 high snorlax with superpower. It on a high roll would be just shy of it at 98.4. I hope this answered your question.

Good video. Thank you for this release. I think Emboar should be included in the list of Pokemon that are getting Rapid Spin this generation. It already curls defensively and rolls out on stuff (at least it can, but nobody really gives it these moves) naturally- so why not be able to spin rapidly and get a neat Speed boost in the process? I don't think that will be enough to really up its usage, but it could give some options. I bet it gets Close Combat, though, since everything else is and a bunch of random Pokemon are taking its previously signature Heat Crash (why Snorlax??). We'll see.
When Black and White came out, all my guy friends took Snivy, and all my lady friends had taken Oshawott (no coordination, it's just how it panned out). Fighting Monkey
I take the pig. The wrestler pig.
I'd take a good chunk out of Emboar's Sp. Atk Base Stat and divide it into his Defense and Sp. Def, to make him a better tank.
8:04 "...as Fire-type wallbreakers such as the monstrous Bewear and Pangoro."
Didn't know they were Fire-types :D
Sounds like a mistake when you remove the context. Full sentence was "Pokemon that function similarly as fire-type wall-breakers..." Emboar is a fire-type wall-breaker. Bewear and Pangoro function similarly to it, but doesn't mean they are fire-types. Dumb comment
@@jcwynn4075 Then it should be "similar to Fire-type...".
You're welcome.
@@SSJ2Pikachu I can see your original comment in my notifications, you condescending ass. The full sentence is completely clear and grammatically correct. You're just an idiot.
"It was difficult to justify it over Pokemon that function similarly as fire-type wall-breakers, such as the monstrous Bewear and Pangoro."
There is nothing wrong or confusing about that sentence at all.
@@jcwynn4075 Why try to silence criticism about confusing wording?
lol just started a white playthrough and picked emboar XD
Its not bad in-game, its just has very specific flaws that didnt let it shine on competitive
its just bad in competitive, in in-game doesn't really matter what you carry xD plus emboar desing is cool af
Dylan Thorsch he’s really good in black/white game single player
@Dylan Thorsch good luck
Snek gang rise up
I loved him in Black 2 story mode, he tanked and slaughtered a lot.
Trick Room Emboar is a goat at least.
The gooooooat goat
its not a goat its a boar
I just ran through everything with Excadrill.
Why does Emboar have arguably the most varied moveset of the unovan starters?
It gets scald...
Samurott get like Normal, bug, Ice Fighting* and water
Serpiorior gets Dragon grass Flying* and Aqua tail* and normal.
*=Added on.
Tell me if I missed a type?
Edit Metagross is ru
Rip
Second edit most of Samurott's coverage comes from breeding.
Samurott gets fighting coverage as well
And Serperior gets Aqua Tail
Opening in Awe
Samurott also gets flying coverage as well (arial ace and [maybe] air slash)
Samurott (my favorite unova starter) gets Sacred Sword Knock Off Megahorn Ice Beam and Grass Knot. So his coverage is almost on par with Emboar. But unfortunately it does not have Reckless Flare Blitz and Contrary Leaf Storm like Emboar and Serperior.
Low speed and low defenses is usually a recipe for unplayable mon, so they have him good type coverage
Specs emboar the HEAT with Focus/FBlast/Scald/Grass Knot
Always liked Emboar more than the other Fire Fighting Pokémon because it tried to do something different compared to the interchangeable Infernape and Blaziken. Does help that Reckless is one of my favorite abilities and its Life Orb utility was really useful even if it ends up being slightly less damage than Choice Band overall
Infernape and Blaziken aren’t really interchangeable though. They do very different things
@@spinceiling7442 Both are Fire/Fighting physical sweepers at their core, which doesn't have much variance to it even if Infernape has some pretty nice special versatility and Blaziken has Speed Boost Baton Pass.
Emboar's special attack stat should've gone into its speed and it would have been a pretty decent mon IMO. Similar stats to Darmanitan.
Emboar is my favorite fire starter...there I said it.
MetalToad you’re not alone my dude
Same. Crash the tepig was my first pokemon.
I've put so much time in my shiny Emboar Nitro... that pokemon is awesome and really underated sadly
Same and my first pokemon :''3
He's my favorite Pokemon and my first
How i'd buff emboar
1.SPEED65
I always picked Tepig in my Gen 5 runs if only to justify using my fave Gen 5 Pokémon, Simisage
Emboar never got a fair chance as it's own pokemon. It's only hated because of what came before it. If you look at it divorced from anything else, it's such a good design. The fire around it's neck is such an awesome touch, and overall, it just looks cool.
Gamefreak: alright people are getting sick of the Fire/Fighting starters so let’s do the exact same thing! And make it BIPEDAL!!
I love how people complain about how we have 3 fire fighting type evolution lines yet don't complain about the 5 poison grass evolution lines.
@@3.2187_Kilometres I love how you missed that the point was that ALL 3 of those fire/fighting evolution lines are starters, while only 1 of those grass/poison is a starter(Venusaur).
@@ThePiny29 SO FUCKING TRUE!
SOMEBODY FINALLY MENTIONED!
@@ThePiny29 so it doesn't change my point. Emboar is hated on way too much especially considering its competition (with the 1st fire fighting type being one of the worst mons in existence but I will agree Infernape is amazing and so is Emboar)
Sammurot was honestly robbed out of the fighting type
HEY. Emboar was OU viable in gen 6 for a hot minute. Don’t you forget
what'd it do
wait what are you talking about?
It was used as a wallbreaker. Here: www.smogon.com/dex/xy/pokemon/emboar/ou/
Hot Take: Emboar is the best Fire/Fighting starter
Fans: ok Gamefreak, while both Blaziken and Infernape were cool, can we not have Fire/Fighting starter in Black and White?
Gamefreak: I'lL fUcKiN dO iT aGaIn
now we miss fire/fighting starter
I always loved how emboar got scald
Emboar should have got Adaptability as it's hidden ability.
Honestly absolutely loved Gen 5. I wish that they just kept the animated sprites, had so much more life than the 3D models that were in these “future” games.
Love his coverege. in terms of in game, its the most fun gen 5 starter to play with in my opinion. blazing through unova with moves like wild charge, grass knot and head smash is simply amazing
2:08 420 HP
thats mlg reference. smoke weed every day!!
Thanks Wolfe and Ken for getting Emboar into this video for VGC!
I really like emboar, dunno why ppl dislikr It so much. Its a badass Big fighting boar
Tepig looked up at me with a teary eye, afraid I'd pass him over too.
We got along very well, and he made me realize that Fire/Fighting, while done to death, is not a bad type match up.
Black from Pokémon Special would agree with ya, in that canon Bianca got oshawott and cheren got snivy ;)
You are now legally obligated to finish the Gen 5 starter trio with
How GOOD Was Samurott ACTUALLY?
I mean... if you want to.
Nah Stunfisk should be next, it would be perfect
Dewott is so cool
Emboar can learn scald.
My Favorite Pokémon Emboar, too bad everyone else seems to not like him or care for him, It I don't mind, he's the best in my eyes. I voted for him in the Google Polls lol. Good video FSG!
Ahh Bacon, he was my starter back in the days.
He's sucks, tbh. Even for a play through.
But he stayed till the end, cuz i actually named and grown attached to him.
Lesson learned : only named good pokemon
Tbh all three Unova starters sucked for in game playthrough, Emboar just sucked the least.
@@InciniumVGC I'd argue that Emboar and Samurott are pretty good for in-game use. Serperior, on the other hand...
...at least until BW2 and move tutors made him a decent Coil sweeper.
0:19 *Jah-ng Fay* and *Joo Bah-jee-eh*
Most people know how to pronounce the former thanks to Dynasty Warriors nowadays; weren't you on that train for a bit at least?
No cap, Emboar base stats shouldn't of been mix base stat. Like bro that special attack that is unneeded could of been put on Emboar's defenses...
"Ghost of a chance" Nice Yu Gi Oh reference!
I actually thought about that and I thought that this phrase must be more common than I think because I saw it in Yu-Gi-Oh too
Ken Wright here. I used emboar in 2015 because it was slow and bulky. Fit well with a trick room team. And to get rid of the steel types like ferrothron.
Ah Embaor, clearly the most unique starter of it's time
you can't judge, you're a damn patrat. Emboar can ORA ORA your daddy all day.
It did get Scald so yeah.
damn i'm pretty funny, looking back.

Maybe he meant Fighting type Wall Breakers.
@@ningenslayer6306 I had to rewind it to make sure I heard it right.
@@geometryemperor I'm certain he did, and that's why I point it out and leave it.
Emperor George I’m sure that what he meant since Bewear and Pangoro are both part Fighting, but it’s still pretty funny. Especially because Bewear is weak to Fire.
I remember one-shotting a Mega Rayquaza with a Choice Scarf + Reckless Emboar with Head Smash. Most satisfying WiFi victory I had.
Emboar looks badass and honestly grew on me and I fell in love with it after black 2
honestly emboar was pretty dope in my opinion especially that shiny one of the best
i will keep asking for this. how good was hippowdon actually?

Welp. So time to finish this. How Good was Samurott ACTUALLY? - History of Samurott in Competitive Pokémon (Gens 5-7)
This thread will become a flame war, I just know it, AAAAH!!!
Easily the worst Water starter
Why is it never mentioned that it can suprise opponents with Scald? It's not game changing, but as a Fire type that can use a Water move it should be of note
“3 times in a row?!? You think that’s enough times, guys?” - Chuggaconroy, 2018
Honestly a mild boost to both defense and special defense alone would help allot for it.
Till this day I still believe Emboar should’ve been a Fire/Dark type.
Emboar isn't agressive, cruel or ruthless. So it wouldn't work since there's supposed to be friendly.
fire ground
@@darko-man8549 That would cripple it.
@@Nosretep at least it would be different
@@Nosretep Against water for sure, but that would provide interesting coverage to include countering electric completely, as well poison and rock types. Especially since fire has always had a hard time countering rock. Plus imagine Earthquake with Emboar

id bet money hes RU next gen he appears in
Emboar is the coolest fire/fighting starter, you guys just have nostalgia goggles surgically attached to your skulls
-Someone that started playing at gen III and loves Blaziken
At least I’m consistent, the second I saw my Big Boy I loved him forever
yes
Blaziken and infernape are just more memorable and better designed
@@samipuusaari6208 more memorable because of nostalgia and better designed is just bullshit, infernape and emboar have the same design but applied to different animals. To say one is better is to be a moron.
@@EresirThe1st sleek is not cool. Real life strongmen are super fat looking and yet awesome, not edgelord anime protagonists that furries can yiff to. Gen 5 has some of the strongest designs as well, so you can silence yourself.

too many fire fighting starters and they got worse and worse with each generation. yawn.

I wasn't into Emboar during Gen V, which is sad since I've come to really appreciate its design. The frustration of a 3rd FireFighter (pun half-intended) in a row sure made me Salty AF at the time. 😂
Maybe if it wasn't the third Fire/Fighting starter in a row, it could have fared better.
Really? What secondary type would you give it?
@@deandregreene2587 It could even be a mono Fire type, just like the other two Unova starters.
But if I had to choose a different secondary type, maybe a Ground type?
@@NanaKyoto Your first thought, lol. If that were to happen, Emboar would've likely to be NU in Gen 5 due to lack of resistances. Your second thought... definitely not. With the abundance of water types everywhere, Emboar being both frail and slow, that ground type addition would be more of a slap to the face than anything.
It sn't better than my boi infernape and blaziken but it is definitely a great mon in competitive it is better than base charizard typhlosion delphow and even inceneroar in singles
Looks like Serperior is the only Unova competitive starter, and just because of a gimmick.
Buff Flame Charge to +2 Speed than +1 Speed to pivot. Would make a decent UU contender at the very least.
