The way she talks about both her achievements and flaws before concluding that even with all these flaws she is "anything but insane" the buildup for that was just- 👌
Now that's a spectacular performance by Dame Judi Dench, who portrays Queen Victoria as a senior lady who, despite being advanced in age, remains strong in will and refuses to be bullied into submission, not even by her son.
Queen Victoria: "Or...or-oorrr-ooorrr Bertie." I love that bit and the next bit of when she enumerated upon all of her character traits -- the good, the bad, and the ugly. Dench is one of the world's most rarest of treasures! A great actress all around.
@@DavidMyrmidon I think more so he was her favourite like John Brown they hated him also because she showed great favouritism to servants above the higher court.
Dame Judi Dench is a national treasure. If ever there was a commanding presence which demanded respect (But not reverence, for that would be both presumptive and belittling) it is Dame Judi Dench. What a glorious character!
Oh pls, She wasn't the most mature or tolerable human being OBVIOUSLY! It just so happend Edward was given the absolute cold shoulder since the death of his father. She was so orthodox and weird that she refused to look at Edward for all her life and remained dressed in black (She believed it was her poor charectered son Edward who caused the untimely death of her husband). Victoria was not the forgiving mature type her self, nor was she ready to give away anything to prepare Edward after her reign. One can imagine Edwards life long loneliness and torment - A father who passed away early, a mother who was alive but was never there for him when he needed. Talk about a head of state a mother who could not mend relations with her own kids! 🍷
What I realised from this scene was the amount of hatred most British Victorians had towards Indians. They simply couldn't accept that Indians were civilised and were as human and intelligent as them. But I not saying all them most of them were but some were rare gems who were kind.
Since she says she has been queen 62 years and 234 days that would make this scene would be dated February 9, 1900. However, that would’ve been before her 81st (and last) birthday which would not have been until May 24, 1900. This would have been just under one year before she died January 22, 1901.
From just one word of insane came a lot of profiles during her reign. How the Queen responded truly smashed it. The Queen seemed to walk more efficiently than her son.
This movie did a great job of portraying Edward VII (Bertie) for what he really was like in real life. A total pig to everyone around him. He was just like his great uncle George IV in all but name; a total embarrassment to the royal family. I don’t blame Victoria for believing that Edward’s appalling behavior killed Albert.
He led the world in war? Is that accurate? Well he also coerced all the people in colonies to fight for him. Starved them to death. While the two narratives you mentioned are true in their own sense, the third narrative that both didn't really cared beyond their island nation is true. They had no idea or impact of power they actually hold and authority they gave to their generals and viceroys.

An underrated film about a misunderstood woman. But in our time, the films with John Brown & Abdul Karim have helped us to understand, we are all in need of affection & personal friendship. Even the famous, rich & powerful. And no I'm not referring to Brittany. The British queens have all been as fascinating as they are individual. Of course it starts with the mother. A seed 🌱 that was planted wrong has only it's sower to blame. Then again, eventually in life everyone uses insanity mostly as a pretext .. A means to an end! 🍷

The countries of Spain, Prussia, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, these are many that have links with Queen Victoria. Most of them were married off to different countries.
