      Well, I wonder why couldn’t she allow Darnley the throne should he outlive her. Didn’t she make an identical request to Queen Elizabeth!! Whatever might have been her intentions for refusal, it was a mistake. She broke a happy marriage. That was a chance for a happy, peaceful life which was squandered away.

      I dont believe they wanted to make her suffer....botched executions were a normal thing back then...look at Margaret Pole or Thomas Cromwell.. I dont believe for a second that they wanted to botch the execution...think with your brain now....it is VERY bad PR for Elizabeth to execute a queen in a botched way....also Mary wanted to be seen as a catholic martyr...and botched execution would absolutely help with that, yeah please research more of this...it wasnt intentional , if anything they wanted to get it right soo much that executioner probably lost his nerve

    • @patriciamassa7829

      @Miss Magpii that doesn't mean they used a purposely dull axe.

    • @MFLimited
      @MFLimited Рік тому +203

      I don’t think the axe
      was dull. The executioner completely missed her neck on the first blow, hitting her in the head.
      Some accounts say she said “my dear God“ when this happened, Others say she made a small noise. One can hope this made her unconscious. With the second blow of the ax, her head was almost completely off but some was still attached. One can hope, as her spinal cord was completely severed, at this point that she was no longer alive or aware of anything. Maybe the executioner was drunk? It’s true, she was seen as a traitor, particularly by Protestants. But it was traditional to make the executions of Royals to be as clean as possible, so as not to lower them in the eyes of the people. This is one of the reasons Queen Elizabeth hesitated to execute her in the first place. Royals often had other Royals executed in the cleanest ways possible, because they realised it could be them. This is why, at the time, few Royals, executed at the command of other Royals, were burned at the stake, hung drawn, and quartered, or even hung.

      King Charles III is related to both Mary and Elizabeth. The Royal line goes down from Henry VII’s daughter (Mary’s grandmother) Margaret Tudor. Henry VII was also Henry VIII’s father so yeah still related to current monarchy, but not as directly as Mary is.

      Just a note most people don't realize, The Stuarts didn't win. The Stuarts were as much Tudor as Stuart. Henry VIII sister Margaret married James IV of Scotland, Mary of Scots grandmother. If she was imprisoned for 17 years, saw little sunlight, and was still tended to and taken care of by her ladies… I wouldn’t doubt she might have looked pretty youthful for her age. It’s also possible that whoever made the mask simply smoothed out some of her aged wrinkles in an effort to capture her likeness as she was known before all that.

    I can believe the Lennoxlove mask is real, a lot of women still look pretty good at 40. Many women are still in pretty good condition at over 50. I personally know women that you wouldn't know were over 60.
    Being a royal who had always been able to keep herself in good condition, even in Carlisle Castle, as well and being renowned for her natural beauty and noting the good condition the Lennoxlove mask was kept in for centuries. I'd say the Lennoxlove mask is probably one of the most, if not the most, faithful relics of anyone's face that you've been able to access on this channel.

      I have to say, although I find her life tragic, it always seemed to me that she made several poor decisions that lead her to where she ended up. It seemes like after being the queen of France, rulling Scotland wasn't 'enough' for her - and that Elizabeth's paranoia wasn't quite unfounded from the start. Too bad, cause she could've made a charming ruler.
